The water will look like it's sand and then suddenly jet out. If you're asking if you hit bottom? You hit bottom and we call it belly womping at the Wedge. It's worth it though. One of the funnest waves I've ever ridden. Newport Beach rocks!!!

The wedge is a famous shorebreak, so I think there is around 3 or 4 feet of water but a real east coast boy will tell you this
