The second half (at 3:55) it switches over to live audio and his mic is turns on (a bit late actually). From that point, it's a 100% live performance. He does the same thing in most of his Billy Jean performances. This is so that he can save his energy on the dance performance at the beginning, while preserving his actual voice for the most important part of the song. He was genius that way!

As watchin' X-factor US 2011,i came across this song which was performed by the winner of this show Melannie.i have to assist that she has done a good job.it's much better than anyone else who used to sing this song ,except MJ obviously.Soon after hearing she sang,i changed into the original version by MJ,is's absolutely the most amazing and incredible performance i've ever heard so far.i love the technique he use to sing,i love the passion he inspire into this song,i love his beautiful voice.
