This isn't really a production car, regardless of what people may say. The lap itself was brilliant and all respect to the driver, he was smooth and awesome to watch. This car is a big 'go kart' using ground effect, generating over 700kg of downforce, more than the weight of the car itself! It's motor is about 455 bhp and is effectively two hayabusa cylinder heads on top of a V8, max rpm about 10500. Described as a road going F1 car. Not a car you'd go shopping with!

@CBR11X It is a production car mate. It is available to buy and on the Nurburgring Nordschleife website, the Radical is listed in production car laptimes. A production car is any car that is road legal and available to buy as opposed to concept cars, Pre-production prototypes and Racing class.

@Psydome360 Yeah but it's kinda spoils the spirit of it. Yeah technically its a production car. But I think the line needs to be defined a little better. This thing (Awesome may it be) is a race car with headlights and turning signals. Apparently someone could put lights and what not on F1 or IRL cars and sell them, and that would be legal. It's like if you were to buy and showed up to an airshow for general aviation with an f-22 raptor. It's just not the same.

@BoberMcBoberson Well, the whole speed/lap time thing is arbitrary anyway. What does it matter how you define the catagories?Also, there is a lot more to the litigation of road cars than just sticking the turn signals on. There are safety regulations and HP restrictions that an F1 car will never pass. The Radical is only 460 bhp which is the same as a 911 roughly. it's speed comes from fine engineering & not just piling on HP. Which I think is fair.

Would anyone compare the F22 raptor to a a P-51 mustang on the same terms? No. The same is true of the radical. It went around the nurburgring to see how fast it could do it and it just happened to beat every other production car. It is a road legal production car so it deserves to be known as the fastest production car. Simple.

Enjoy this with only the mechanical noise for sound. Same visual but with a 'soundtrack' has been added for this video elsewhere here in youtube land and it SUCKS . Focus and skill and track knowledge. Sure he was, in a Porsche 956 Group C racecar. Those had insane amount of power and downforce, and dominated endurance racing in the entire 80's.

From what I hear these cars use a punched out (bout 1500cc) Hayabusa motor.

@SuperSecretFox i was the first time there today. just 90 kilometers far away where i live, and i had a chance to drive with a 800 horsepower corvette. this is a very hard feeling. you have to be very alive to drive like this. so, my first time nordschleife was a gift of... okay. i also drove the track with my gti, i was surpriced, the track is much more scarry if you are on it. the ups and downs are not similar to a game. this track, named green hell, well now i understand that. wow....

@SuperSecretFox after the ride i was deeply impressed how much the grip-level changed in the different parts of the race track. well, haha, my gti, only 115 ps was sliding sometimes with my cheap tires, even when i was extremly slow compared to the others of course. i would call it respect . and after my 2 rounds i was sitting in the 800 horse power corvette. i enjoyed it, but in some corners i never thought that you could be so fast is you really go for it. respect and thanks to the driver
