...And I agree. Matts make things safer, not easier! It's all about the moves and the rock. Something pedantic purists and their tick lists will never understand.

Surely using a doubled over bouldering matt on the ankle snapping rock at the bottom avoids the tricky mantle start. and reduces the objective danger.
Saw somebody else do that last week.
Must make it E1 5a.
Can't claim a tick for that.
