When I was young I had nothing invested in the world and I was very idealistic, liberal and full of angst. As I grew older I became more invested, less idealistic and more realistic, now I see more of how the world really is...
Great song, just wish Ryan had sung the true lyrics rather than clean it up ("give him your cash, you sucker") for radio... the dj could have been told to cover the particular line. It is Austin, at least.
I like his music but wondering about Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie and that whole vein of music. Is that his influence? To be honest, my politics have done a 180 and I no longer feel that way any more. I'm tired of apologizing for the USA. Just study history and you will find that every country in the world has skeletons in their closet. Why doesn't any one wonder why people come to our country? Mexico needs a revolution to get rid of one of the most corrupt governments in the world.
Man i just found Ryans music can't believe with all my efforts of finding new REAL country that i had never heard of this guy yet, lovin his music an the voice, reminds me a lil of bob dylan, KEEP ON KEEP'N ON RYAN!
Ryan Bingham could be god. The thing is he doesn't give a shit whether he's better than Chris knight or not, or what people comment on his videos. He knows who he is and tells us this in his music. I take my hat off to this man.
Ryan Bingham is such an amazing talent..I have both his albums and can't stop listening to them... Its nice to listen to music that actually has meaning....
Ive listened too Ryan's song's just song's, and obviously his voice and song writing are outstanding but this performance show's the man for an amazing musical talent, guitar player and gift too music lovers.
good thing about Ryan is you don't even have to be a fan of country music this guy is just a great musician bar none the lyrics for this song are just great awesome song thanks for the upload cmosser
I've just learned who Ryan Bingham is. Thanks to Crazy Heart. He is an incredible talent. I'm not usually a new country fan, but this guy is an artist. I am a novice musician, and I aspire to be able to write half as good as this guy. Great vid. Thank you.
I'm just glad there are people out there listening to this kinda music. Most people listen to music the way you or I might listen to a train in the far distance. You have no idea where it's going nor do you care for that matter. By the way i'm stuck on "best of me" and "ever wounder why" right now.
What the f you people bickering about????????? This is one of the very coolest songs ever!!!!!! Ever, ever,,,, show me a better and more interesting song, you will be hard pressed
@windrose777 How about Mr. Dylan's Hard Rain? (A Hard Rain's A Gonna Fall, Bob Dylan) Not taking anything away from this song which is very cool, just thought you might want to have a listen to the song that inspired this one.
WoW! I hate to compare really I do, but that is awesome great sound. A little Bob Dylan is his music. Jakob Dylan Seeing Things was great too. Same style.
I think Knight and Bingham are 2 of the baddest mother fuckers around. I don't think anyone will ever surpass Knight's song writing but Bingham has a more exciting and a more marketable sound IMO. I think anyone can listen to Bingham: young, old, city folk, country boys...anyone. Knight really just appeals to people who can relate to his lyrics. A rich, city boy might not understand what "enough rope" or "william" or "heart of stone" is about but anyone can like "bread and water" or "other side"
Mr. Bingham comes from a long line of Texas songwriters...Townes Van Zandt, Guy Clark, Kris Kristofferson, and so so so many others. The essence of songwriting is still around we just have to look harder to find it now-a-days.
He is from New Mexico but attributes his musical style and the experiences he sings about to Texas. He got his start with LoneStarMusic based out of New Braunfels, TX.
My 12 month old daughter loves Ryan Bingham. I play a lot of different music for her and nothing gets a reaction like his music. She always stops whatever she's doing to come listen.
Some hippies in the back room, Rockin and rollin and smokin to an old tune. That line is fucking awesome!! P.S Check out Chris knight if you like Ryan Bingham.
Damn , this dude can get everyone into listening country music, even someone from far away like me ,( Transilvania-Romania) who knows nothing about life in Texas (or US) .He has pure talent for song writing and an amazing voice.
@AmurgAprins I totally agree. I listen to hip-hop, alternative, and indie mostly and I used to vow that I would never like country music, because it was all terrible with the exception of Johnny Cash. But this guy is just too good not to like, if more country was like this I could definitely get behind it.
@hiphop4ever50 Hehe, good music is just good music and genres are just stereotypes.J.Cash was one of a kind too, there's stuff to learn in hip-hop and stuff to learn in alternative. Those 2 categories are the only ones in my country that have powerful and meaningful lyrics for the moment.
Gaslight Anthem are AWESOME. Bingham is great too. I love the titles name "dylans hard rain". Obviously a little tribute to Bob Dylan-Hard Rain. Love this guy. He's a great singer/songwriter. Good to have a new guy out there that can play and write. Noone will ever compare to Bruce Springsteen but it's nice to see some new faces making good music.
if it's so simple than write your own sh** and cut the criticism. i don't care about your lame analysis of his lyrics, guitar playing, etc., the bottom line is this guy is REAL. This isn't someone on some lame tv show singing karaoke or some studio giving him lyrics to sing. Like any good actor/artist, he's not pretending, he's living those f*in words.
I've got 6 decades behind me, and I like Ryan & the DH's music. A lot. Some have complained that RB's song's rhyme. ?? What's up with that? The pseudo intellectual drivel so prevalent in many modern "folk" songs forget that song lyrics are SUPPOSED to rhyme. Folk songs are created for the "folks", not for the intelligentsia elites. They have Dave Matthews to play with, & bless 'em if they can figure out what that dude is singing about anyway...
I was wonderin how he'd censor that one lyric, "give him yo cash you sucker", I guess you gotta make it radio friendly. Ryan Bingham, Gaslight anthem, and the band, Nothington, are pretty much the only new music I listen to these days.
LOL, kanewischer123! I know exactly what you mean. I was telling someone that this Crazy Heart movie, which is just now opening, will really make him well-known, and we will no longer have him to ourselves. On the other hand, everyone should hear his great music.
If Ryan here had been singing forty years ago, he'd have a Scorsese biopic out now. Funny, though, how his music cuts even more because of all the fluff out there. Keep it up man!
interesting to hear it acoustic; the plugged in version rocks it out and has such an upbeat feel , but this telling is so much more mournful and contemplative - gives me chills. what a fucking talent.
Omg I heard your songs on the radio and I have been trying to figure out who sings them for 2 months now finally the search is over omg your a bad ass
His music is like one massive storybook and the way he sings and plays it you can easily drift off into that World he has created through his music, there's only a few musicians out there who are capable of doing that but it's a struggle to even think of one who could come anywhere near Ryan, simply put he's just an inspirational, amazing talent.
