  • i thought the guy in hat was a horse

  • Let me guess.. Home built by low time and near non current time pilot..

  • Wow I live in murrieta we got sum ugly people :O

  • What an ugly orange mic you have. Time to upgrade to a $2 black cover replacement?

  • it did a split S into the ground practically

  • Comment removed

  • nice microphone

  • Thou shalt maintain sufficient airspeed lest the ground arise and smite thee...

  • @singleproppilot Hey we went to same common sense flight school!

  • Does anybody know the pilot ? Ever think it could have been suiside by plane ? Mabe his wife was bangin the mailman....Im just sayin there was no aparent reason for the crash......

  • Suicide by plane? Are you kidding me? You see a 2min video by people that know little about airplanes, and you draw that conclusion... Man, see if the FAA/NTSB is hiring!

A quick search reveals the probable cause as fuel starvation. The aircraft ran out of fuel on approach to land, and stalled. That is what the witnesses are describing as a barrel roll.

Engine out in Lancair, low and slow... You dont stand a big chance.

  • hmm lancairs do that a lot.

  • Fuel exhaustion is definitely not a model specific issue.

  • true,

But given the wing loading, but whats your chances with a dead stick lancair?

  • I'll give you that. We normally fly the turboprop pattern ( +500') for this reason. I think the parachute is actually a great addition to the Lancairs as well because of high approach speeds and relatively bad glide make for difficult of airport landings. This doesn't apply to Columbia / Corvalis because its a much bigger wing + empenage. Cheers :)

  • The reason they are required to have an airframe parachute is because the design is not able to be recovered from a spin. See the large numbers of fatal lancair spin from high altitude to the ground accidents. There are very significant risks from deploying the parachute also.

  • The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:

The pilot's inadequate preflight planning, which resulted in the loss of engine power due to fuel exhaustion, and the pilot's failure to maintain flying speed, which resulted in an inadvertent stall/spin and the subsequent collision with terrain.

  • it is unfortunate that they were not able to keep airspeed high enough, being so close to the strip...

  • @fishmaster232 tss!
