  • zu gehetzt.

  • diese harmonik und akkordfolge ist einfach wundervoll..

  • Trying to analyze this chorale is either heaven or hell. Haven't decided yet. The bass part is awesome. 0:08 Descending A Major scale. 0:42 Just really fun. 0:52 - 0:59 Straight chromatic fall. It's just awesome.

  • This is the only Bach choral that uses every note of the chromatic scale. It's partly why Berg used it in his violin concerto. It's always sounded slightly otherworldly to me. On the surface it sounds conventional, but there's a kind of unsettling strangeness to it.

    Does anyone else find this?

  • @EASYTIGER10 Also the first first 3 notes ending in in an #4 interval fit well into the less tonal idea of Berg.

I thinks its the most modern sounding Bach Choral ever.^^

  • Used to sing this with Shoreham college choir, directed by Andrew Teague

  • It may be wrong, but in the original voices, written by Bach it ist "genung". I guess, Bach wrote it by mistake. MAy be he wrote it because it sounds better.

  • Praise Bach!

  • @artois54 still, it is "Es ist genug". Whereever you read "genung", it's wrong.

  • @blackenedchaoz "Genung" is correct. The original also reads "mein Jesus kömmt" instead of "kommt," a few lines later. That's simply how they spelled it back then. German orthography did change a bit since Bach's times.

  • @Timrath

well timrath, i AM german, and they sing "es ist genug" :) "es ist genug herr wenn es dir gefällt"

the word "genung" doesn't exist :)

  • @DerletzteMongorianer I'm a native German speaker myself, but that doesn't mean you know enough about 18th century German to have an authoritative opinion about it. "Genung" was the correct spelling in Bach's time and geographic region. The fact that they changed the spelling afterwards is irrelevant.

Haven't you ever read any old German texts? Do you really believe that contemporary spelling applies to bygone times? You shouldn't go patronising people when you aren't informed on the subject.

  • @Timrath

  • The best. Praise Christ.
