Yes I do drill hole where the LED is. I put the battery inside the cars. I am not sure on the wire gauge, very small. I use CR2032 batteries and phone wire as the power wires. I also use very small slide switches so you can turn them on/off.

And as far as wiring to the battery, what gauge are you using?

I made them using 3mm led's and small 3v batteries. I have made a boost with red exhaust pipes. Haven't seen a DJ or Wingo.
