A jig is an awesome big fish bait! But a lot of people don't fish one because they have missed a lot of fish, and no longer have confidence in it... Trim the weedguard, and you'll get a better hook up ratio. And you WILL miss some fish on a jig, but when you hook up, its a pig!!!!
hey was upp, that too heavy set up, why not medium power-fast action? spinning is even mor easy, i use the set up i wrote n i get a load of bits, on the jigs way dow i giv it one to three jerks
@TheGermanshepherd101 Lighter rigs are fine for open water but in heavy cover the light rigs fall way short. A 6 - 10 lb bass will wrap you up and break off in heavy cover before you can get her turned and coming up, hence the heavier rigs. Every rod, reel, bait has its ideal place for a specific pattern. Lighter rigs are not designed nor capable for fishing heavy cover in which the Jig & Pig excels at.
okay how do you jig fish? I been using a jig all summer and no bites what so ever yes I am new to the jig and I do not know how to work it. the way I am using it is like I use my worm ( no not the one in my pants) if you could can you talk about how to pick the right color, what trailer should I be using, where and when should i use it, and how to use it and the different ways of using it thanks
and I been all over u tube trying to find how and there no video on this
@techn9ne82 Here are a few tips on jig fishing. Keep your color selection simple. I typically only use two colors of jigs, brown or black and blue. Find trailers that match your jig color, usually zoom ultravibe chunk in green pumpkin are the best in most water. I use them in clear and stained water and they seem to work just as well in both. Part of the key to fishing with jigs is patients. Dont expect to catch a fish every cast. Find spots that look like good bass habitats.
@techn9ne82 Match the hatch first. Add plastic chunk to the jig in the summer. Chances are you have had bites, Bass have a tendency to pick a jig up and you never know it. A bass will 90% of the time hit the bait on the fall, you have to maintain contact with that bait 100% of the time. Jig is rather difficult in the summer because bass will suspend due to the thermocline. Some lakes have a TC and some do not that depends on the depth of the lake...
@TheRubberDuck139 the easiest time to learn this bait is in the late winter, early spring, or late fall. The one thing this guy does not tell you that is more important than anything else and that is "Confidence in yourself and the bait". Without that you are waisting for time. Look at all the good fisherman out there, they all have a go-to bait or something they are known for. I have tried to teach several people on how to use the jig and pig, and some never get it.
@TheRubberDuck139 Stop using it like a worm. The J&P imitates a crawfish or a defensive crawfish. Learn the traits of a crawfish and then imitate it. Bass are lazy, they like an easy meal. So remember bass hit bait on the fall, its easier for them to catch it.
@thebombbros I love jig fishing pitching to cover, big hvy jigs punching matts, thick lillys ect. You are very right about what makes a good jig guy. If u want the big bites on AVG jigs will get bigger bites an still stick good numbers to. Most important thing with jigs in paying total attention to how it feels, and did it stop falling to fast? Or is it falling to long? More so then any other lure knowing does it feel to light or to heavy is most important an it takes time.
@dark well maybe for fishing big game off shore ie: tuna ect. My slightly stronger right arm would make a diff but for bass it doesnt other then when im punching matts where fish get burried up and using xheavy rods and 65-80# braid thats where I use a lefty reel because I dont want to have to change hands in casr I get bit as soon as it hits tbe water. Other then that its righty reels only.
I placed 5th for big bass in my first tournament where all the larger sized fish came off of jigs being crawled off limbs in about 2 feet of water. most people fished jerkbaits, lipless crankbaits, and spinnerbaits but caught a smaller average size of fish. I think the jig is a lure that attracts more lethargic Bass into striking because most large fish have seen lures and refuse to strike anything that could be questionable. 5th isn't the best place in a tourney, but some people got skunked.
just bought a 7ft medium with very fast action, but the line rating is only 6-12. can i still do what your saying with this rod? cuz 17# test seems too high???? please explain.
@johnnymohani Yes u can use your 7ft medium action rod if ur gona fish a jig ur more than likely gonnabe fishin for larger bass the larger line helps with flippin if your not flippin a jig 10 to 15 pound line will work but for flippin go no less than 17 pound line i personally use two rods for jigs a 7ft6 flippin stick or a 7ft2 skeet reese casting rod use whatever is more comfortable for you to use
therein lies the problem for a lot of guys...hits can be incredibly subtle with a jig so feelin in out is probably the most important skill you can develop as a jigger...any anomaly at the other end could indeed be a fuckin horse who just inhaled your bait...or you could be hung up on something...but a good pull hookset is always free...it's all about practice and dedicating time to the technique
@wolfmanorfisherman You can feel the bait being moved or lifted off of the bottom, or if it stops before it hits the bottom, thats commonly a fish. also if it should have hit the bottom after a few seconds but the line is still moving, it could be a fish. some strikes will be very soft and almost unnoticeable, while most smaller fish smack it when they strike. that is why good jig fisherman catch alot of big fish, because they are educated enough to know excactly what the jig is doing.
@grantbrewer123 Tear drop casting reel? sounds totally stupid lmao... they are called Low profile baitcasters others will be a round baitcaster... no such thing as a tear drop reel lol... its Lo-pro or round. bait would be a Flipping jig... one thing to add here.. if someone goes out and flips and pitches heavy cover USE A FLIPPING JIG/ Heavy cover jig.. they may looks a lot a like but there is a diff.. go in Hvy cover with a jig made for grass or light cover and you will be hung A LOT..
@darkmossie633 why do you think EVERY Casting reel is made in Right hand and then a left hand model comes out if the reel sells well? A LOT of guys use a left handed reel for flipping and pitching and right handed for all else... if Im pitching to shallow cover I will use a left handed reel so I dont have to change hands.. other then for that I HATE left handed reels I couldnt fish a left handed reel all day for ANYTHING other then flipping and pitching cranking with a lefty OMG sucks lol.
@ofnaman right, so you prefer to have your stronger right arm just doing the winding in, and your weaker arm pumping in the fish?
-never made sense to me but Americans had to be different,
-i was taught to wind in left hand , whether using fixed-spool or multiplier reel, as the principles of casting are the same, whether the rod and reel are upside down or not
-you want your strong right arm (90% of people's strongest) holding the rod and pumping in fish, and your left arm/hand winding in
im most adopt to the third tips....but yeah i also have another tip for you...welp my tip is 'think like a fish". cause yeah if you learn how to think like a fish then you'll be catching more fish...even without those tips that you mention...it's just on how fishy your thinking is.and it's the truth too...no doubt about it..also.on selecting jigs..always choose the lures or jigs that catches your eyes...cause it'll be the best on catching more and bigger fish..
@TwinStatesBassClub thats kinda gives you something to go by but not very accurate as DIA very a lot from one brand of mono to another like Daiwa braid 55# is about the same DIA as 8LB mono or maybe even a little thinner and some Monos are very think and some JDM monos VERY thin per pound test. and the reason you use much heavier braid then mono or FC is because of the lack of stretch and high levels of shock (Hook sets) will snap braid easy on a straight pull its very strong not so on impact.
why no fish? is it too cold ? or do you still score bass. also is it bettter to use thick chunk trailers in cold water and thin them out towards warmer water?
This is great info for general jig fishing! I use a 1/8oz. jig with 10lb berkley transition crimson fluorocarbon. It's a great combo for shallow water during spring and also as a finesse application for clearer water in post-cold front applications.

Great to see an American using left-hand wind multiplier, instead of ridiculous
yank idea, and BIGGEST CON ever in fishing tackle of all time -the right-hand retrieve multiplier
before you shout back, ask yurselves, why do 95% of fixed-spool users prefer
LEFT-HAND WIND?

u said 17 pound mono or flourocarbon or 50 pound braid braided line is alot stonger than mono so what such light mono but such heavy braid?
suicide5389 2 years ago
because braid is thinner than mono, so 50lb braid is the same diameter as 17lb mono.
snipergecko1 2 years ago
actually, 50lb braid is the same line size diameter as 12lb mono,
8lb braid=1lb mono
10lb braid=2lb mono
15lb braid=4lb mono
20lb braid=6lb mono
30lb braid=8lb mono
40lb braid=10lb mono
50lb braid=12lb mono
65lb braid=16lb mono
80lb braid=17lb mono
