  • One dollar in 1876 is the same as 20 today. That is some expensive whiskey.

  • That bartender is an idiot. You dont talk back to a person after he puts the barrell of a walker in your face.

  • Slow learner ain't he?

  • My favorite scene in the whole movie.

  • Duvall and TLJ, now that's a partnership.

  • "Besides the whiskey, I think we'll require a little respect." Tell him, Gus!

  • The one and only thing I will ever thank NPR* for. I accidently heard the movie critic (an contributor from elsewhere ) in advance say...this promised to be great TV.. It was and still is. A bench mark for TV drama. An awesome show. Early Steve Bescemi and Chris Cooper among others in superbly written episodes.

Do folks know that Motown backed the show and made out big time...the Old fashioned American way. considered risk in Investments. .(No government guarantees)

  • if you haven't read the book..well...just read it

Also 'Comanche Moon's' portrait of Native Americans no BS attitude is such a joyful breath of fresh air

    all hail McMurtry

  • Ain't much of a crime smacking a surly bartender. Truer words never spoken.

  • redplague could make good biscuits but his comments were terrible

  • Robert Duvall is like Clint Eastwood....He makes a Western a Western!

  • I love this scene!

  • I was named after augusts mccrae

  • cant stand a surly bartender

  • That's the best scene? I'm glad I missed this one.

  • This was a televisions series not a movie amirite?

iirc itt's like 8 hours long, i remember watching it with my father as a very young boy

  • Aint' much of a crime wacking a surly bar-tender!

  • YES this was the best scene!

  • Bartender is like the Gen X and Gen Y trash today. No respect for others, they need a good whipping to put them in their place.

  • @mbabist01 Easy old timer. I'm a Gen X'er who works and supports a wife and two kids. Remember, my generation gets to pick your generation's retirement homes. Now, get off my lawn you old coot.

  • @mbabist01 what an ignorant thing to say. Take some accountability instead of pointing the finger. I hate rude behavior in a man. won't tolerate it.

  • @06cdvanw Ignorant? I've countless seen your trashy generation in inaction numerous times. Now, get back to your WAH OWS "protest," and keep playing those video games.

  • @mbabist01 Man, was I about to type some hateful shit to you. Then I looked at your channel. Actually, I think we'd get along just fine. I am a lifelong NRA member, and outdoorsman. I have an MBA and $120,000 in student loans. The occupy movement is as low as an American citizen can shrink...and Obama is the worst leader in American history. There's a glimmer of hope for you...there's 27 year olds like me still out here. We both like Lonesome Dove, so how bad can we be? Good day to you, sir.

  • The way those two bicker throughout the entire movie is great! Like an old married couple. THE best western ever made and Duvall is beyond sexy.

  • I loved the look on Woodrow's face: "Oh boy, here it comes!"

  • Gotta Love these two~~~ Last of the real men ~ Gotta have good service~ with respect ~~ Can never Judge a man By his Clothes~~~

  • Kinda hard to smart off when youre unconscious with a broken nose and busted lips.

  • Don't mess with Gus.

  • I love how Call stands back as soon as the bartender starts sassing... He knew what was coming

  • @jmbrimley - He knew what was coming, and he TURNED to make sure they would not be surprised by any local yokels.

  • in today's world that would be assault, assault with a deadly wepaon, discharging a firearm in a residence, endangering public safety, only in western civilization could people get away with that.

  • Greatest Western of all time.... Lonesome Dove...

  • @chrismott99 This!

  • @chrismott99 I agree, I have no idea of how many times I've watched this, I still love it. I especially like how Woodrow backs away since he knows Augustus is going to do something. The whole movie is simply superb.

  • @chrismott99 ...Without a doubt!

  • "My heroes have always been cowboys" - Willie Nelson

  • Definitely one of my favorite westerns! Everything about this show was fantastic! Great cast. Great acting. Great story. Thanks so much for uploading this, warbird20132 :)

  • Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.... Boy, can I relate to that.

  • "Like the Sioux just done Custer" -- there's your time frame - June - July 1876. Now both of you can be mad about historical analysis.

  • @AnnaFire I'm not mad. I used the same battle, Custer's last stand, as a reference for the time frame. I just don't get why GoNavy311 had to get all bent out of shape about the fact that I mentioned that, along with the remark about the expensive price for the drinks for that time. I guess something rubbed him the wrong way about my observation. Go figure.

  • @Stingray8854 I'm with you. Some people on Youtube will vent for little reason. I've experienced it myself.

  • One of the best scenes of any Western, any TV film, any film period. I love that it's the first time you see Tommy Lee smile. Woodrow knew what was coming ("You just mad coz they di'n't know who you was!")...

  • @GoNavy311 So, I make a remark about the time frame / setting of the film, and the price of the two drinks, and you say the movie's better without my analysis? What the HELL? Is Lonesome Dove somehow less of a great film because of my remarks? I don't think so. This is the COMMENTS section. What I said is perfectly reasonable. So excuse me for making an observation, you JACKASS.

  • NEVER cross an old timer, especially when he's armed with a Colt Walker!

  • i think every other person needs that done to them

  • Try doing that in a bar these days....

  • @boiledhooker- About 15 or 20 times I'da wanted to do that. Some people working behind a bar act like they're doing you a favor by gettin' you a drink.Breakin' their nose or backhandin'em across the melon with a 4 1/2 lb. revolver would probably cure that.

  • You just broke my nose you old SOB.

  • That's what I like about the man, He's a Philosopher.

I hired him to give you someone to talk to.

Maybe that'll free the rest of us up so we can get some work done.

  • You darn Cowboys auta Broom yourselfs off before you come in here, we

got enough sand in here w/o you bringin more in here. That'll be a Dollar.

It ain't much of a Crime Wackin a surly Bar Tender.

You were just mad cause they didn't know who you was.

  • @740446 after that i think he knows now who they was huh. surly dick sucker.

  • I worked on this movie with props from Austinite Tony Booth. That's the first time Tommy Lee Jones smiled in this movie. Ok, when you bust up the bartender, you have to self-service. Wacking a surley bartender. Kilt instead of killed. Great writing by Austinite Bill Whitliff.

  • The best western EVER !!!!! Duval is the master !!!!!

  • The movie is set in either late 1876 (after Custer's last stand), or 1877. Two drinks for a dollar in those days was EXPENSIVE! And they were drinking rye, probably pretty common. It's not like they were drinking rare, thirty year old single malt scotch.

  • @Stingray8854 You don't suppose it's possible he charged them a dollar simply because he was a dick do you? We'll all pass on the chronology--the movie's better without your historical analysis.

  • Customer service Texan style.

  • i don't think he got a tip that night.
