Being paranoid and afraid of "witchcraft" does not give your God enough credit to handle the situation. A child should not have to repeatedly ask their parent for protection (unless they have a bad parent). A good parent should already know when it is needed. This is why being afraid of "the devil", "witchcraft" (insert other supposed bad thing) is literally incompatible with the Christian religion.

The separation of the church and state was a private letter to a minister and what Thomas Jefferson meant was that the state will not make anyone go to a particular church. Meaning no state church which that is where we came from in Europe. The way that is taken today: ie. "Separation of church and state" is taken out of contexts.
