Y'know, overall, this was, for a long time, my favourite Mario game in terms of 'atmosphere'. It was the first Mario main series game that actually had one as far as I was concerned.
I think every Mario game in the main series are excellent, all of the Kart series too, Party series I think the first 4 are awesome, 5 and 6 are ok but 7 and 8 are kinda bad, 9 seems to be good though. Paper is epic. There are the rpg games too which are great. About the sports spin-offs, I've only played Mario Tennis in the N64 and GC, those are fun games, are the other sports games bad as people say?
@Playstation72 You know, I like Sunshine, but your opinion about Galaxy is illogical! Then you could say that Sunshine is just Mario 64 with Fludd, Tropics and more Red Coin missions.
@potatopac Cool! Personally, I don't have a favorite. There are so many of them and I'm not THAT into Mario anymore. But, have you heard about the Mario Kills Tanooki thing that PETA was sooo upset about?
@potatopac Yup. I'm an animal fanatic. I have three dogs, a hamster and a rabbit. And I just lost a ferret due to cancer so really, I hate animal abuse as well. All my life I've grown up with animals! Though I don't agree that Mario is what's causing people to kill Raccoon's. Besides, the worst that a person does to a Raccoon really is shoot them for getting into their garden. And now they're putting up signs saying you can't do that so where's the harm in Mario?
Hands down best Mario game ever. I still have the little notebook me and my friend recorded all our stars in when I was like...9. This game is a perfect example of sticky summer GameCube controllers.
I do hate how people rag on this game, to me it was great, there are some levels *okay a few* that can get really annoying and are hard as hell but overall every time i play through it I feel like I am getting better, trying more tricks and having more fun. I personally love this game and the music is amazing. In fact i am going to go play it again lol
@EstronkaS To me it seems that the N64 made Mario and Zelda turn to the peak of its popularity, the Gamecube just decided to take both of them on a trip to the islands for a "vacation". The real tip of the hat didn't come until the Wii came along.
@EstronkaS Yeah, but Twilight Princess came out at the very end of the GameCube's lifecycle in 2006, which made it the last game published by Nintendo for it. Twilight Princess holds its place more as a Wii game since they made Link right handed with his sword. To me, Wind Waker is the more definitive Zelda GameCube game. Anyway, after this "vacation", the Wii decided to go back and reference it's predecesors like how TP is like OoT and Throwback Galaxy in SMG2 which really is a tip of the hat.
I can't see what the hate is for this game it was amazing and still is. Environments look amazing levels were good, gameplay was great same for the music. It deserves more than it gets from the public.
Sunshine was THE BEST 3-D Mario game, period. 64 was great and all, but Sunshine had the atmosphere. Who WOULDN'T want to play such a laid back game as Super Mario Sunshine. It takes place on a frickin BEACH.
Only idiots who understand nothing think in 'better than', or are stuck in the past or present. If one were to give this game sound judgment, they'd agree it was great.
Is it better than 64 or Galaxy? That depends. Do you prefer games that stick to one theme and atmosphere? Do you prefer non-lineair platformers? If so, I bet you'd prefer Sunshine over the other two.
Great song, I had to get used to it for the sake of my sanity when trying to get Yoshi on that island when I was a kid, considering I would be hearing it for a very, very long time.
The one Mario game where Yoshi can't swim just had to be set in the tropics, eh Nintendo?
@C0rnholioo sunshine is much much much better then galaxy i grew up this this tune will live on forever lets just hope Nintendo comes there senses and makes more of these(with weegee to)
No offense, but I never really liked this Mario game as well as Super Mario Bros. 2. For this game most of the music seemed somewhat plain though I do like this song quite a lot. Same for Super Mario Bros. 2, though the last world and Wart was pretty awesome as well as the ending. It's like every awesome series has at least a bit of good in them, even the least good ones, or what appears to be that.
Super Mario Galaxy is good Playsation72... Didn't you enjoy the story book? I love the Star Festival theme too, and I liked how I beat the whole game on Mario and Luigi with 120 Stars on December 31, 2007, on New Year's Eve.
I still haven't used yoshi to spay out the tube on that island where the guy was trapped. Those stupid boats and yoshi's midair jump kept making me fall off into the water.
Stupid Yoshi. You live on a damned island, but you can't swim.
Wait, this is one of your favorite themes? Oh dear God. I hate this theme so freakin' much because 80% of that entire game is listening to that damn repetitive music over and over. Schizophrenia would be a welcome change if I had to listen to this nonstop.
This was my personal favorite game on the GC along with Super Smash Bros. Melee. I don't know about any of you but this game rocked. I loved this game so much, that when I beat it, I made another file and did it again. I had all 3/4 files beaten. The other one my siblings took for themselves :p. This game rocks.
@rdcarden2006 ye that wasn't a real mario game, the true mario 2 is lost levels, the one on the market is a shameless copy of a game called doki doki panic
This is a really under appreciated game. I think it's better than Galaxy (I'll be happy to accept angry replies, messages, and thumbs down things). Ok here we go, time to receive a record amount of hate mail (yeah more than when I said fred sucks.) Mario Galaxy sucked. It was sunshine with a crappy gravity gimmick, take away the FLUDD, and add a lot more platforms to jump on [WEE!!! (sarcasm)].
I liked Galaxy. It felt more like the classic Mario Bros games. I also loved how huge and bizzare all the levels were. I thought it was a creative game.
I dont see why not. Mario Sunshine didnt get all that difficult till the last stage either. I was entertained by Mario Galaxy. And I would be happy to play it again. The only reason I dont is because I rarely play my Wii. (and mario galaxy did have some hard parts by the way).
I played all of the hard parts from Galaxy. The only one I would say is as challenging as anything from sunshine is, and that's the Dardevil run to the lava spire.
If you want my oppinion its just that you'v been blinded by your fond memorys of Sunshine. That game was pretty easy also. The only hard part in the entire game was the final stage. And I could have done that blind folded if it werent for that ultra cheap boat thing in the middle. Mario Galaxy was just as tough as Sunshine and 64. Maybe tougher.
No, if anything, I've been blinded by my fond memories of Mario 64. Mario Sunshine was rated as the second hardest Mario game ever, that meaning to get 120 stars on. Yeah anyone can beat the game with the way you fhave to get to the last level, but it's getting 120 that's a real balls to the wall kind of game. Galaxy is easy, i could do it, and I suck at Mario.
well if we're talking about finding all the shines as rather to playing through the actual levels then yes its harder. But some the shines in Sunshine were just impossible to find without a tip book. Like the ones that were hidden in the ground and on walls and you had to spray with water to find. You had to litterally spend hours upon hours spraying every square inch of the game world with water to find them.
In my oppinion. Galaxys LEVELS are just as hard as 64's.
and spending hours upon hours combing every inch of a games world just to find some thing that simply changes the ending slightly is not my idea of fun or challenge.
well it's a lot of people's opinion's of fun and challenge. Alright you have your opinion, I have mine, that's it, I think Galaxy is far too overrated and this game is underrated, you disagree. Alright, that's fine.
I'm pretty sure a lot of peoples ideas of "fun" in a video game doesnt include "walking around a dessert island for two hours spraying every square inch of dirt with a squirt gun in hopes of finding some hidden treasure that doesnt really do anything".
Not that Mario Sunshine wasnt fun. It was hella fun. And definitely underated. But I also think Mario Galaxy is a completely worthy addition to the Mario series. And has earned the praise its gotten.
I didn't say Mario galaxy wasn't a good game, I just don't think it's the best mario game ever, which is what people think. It can't touch Super Mario 3 or Super Mario world. I would say 64 is better but I'm a huge fan boy of that game because it was the first game I ever played, so it's tough not to be.
I don't understand what all the fuss was about this game. I thought it was excellent. I've beaten it many times, and I will probably beat it many more. Thanks for the music Supra.
Yeah, I guess I just liked the increased difficulty. I never got 100% of the blue coins though, so I technically never completed it. I think I might do that someday soon though :D
Music was a great fit when you were zooming around with the turbo nozzle...though I also remember waiting ages for the boat with Yoshi near the Noki Bay entrance. Annoying stuff, as was the endless blue coin hunt.
Ah, this game wasn't too bad. The music was top notch. Galaxy was much better, in all possible ways, though. While playing it, you could find yourself having a Musicgasm.

This game sucked balls (as did most of the music) but I always found this tune catchy. Luckily Nintendo redeemed themselves with Galaxy

Ah, this game wasn't too bad. The music was top notch. Galaxy was much better, in all possible ways, though. While playing it, you could find yourself having a Musicgasm.
Fun stuff.

An eargasm lol

I have to disagree that galaxy is in all possible ways better.
Galaxy had less replay value i think.
i completed sunshine twice, but galaxy was less appealing, i only completed once and never looked at it again >.>

I use the gypsy jazz version of this song as my de facto channel theme song

This was the first song I ever heard a gamecube playing, back when we first got one and I walked in on someone playing this area. Memories! XD

If they made an Accordian Hero game, this should be in it.
I like that variation of the Mario Bros. theme they use for the obstacle courses. The one with the voices.

Accordion Hero? I thought I saw something like that in one of those Adult Swim card promo things. Also came with Jug Hero and Spoons Hero :P.

Nintendo beat you to it. They put it in Brawl, which pretty much counts as a Best VGM in itself :P.

I used to hate this song with a passion when I first got the game, but it's grown on me.

It hasn't quite grown on me. Lol, what's with the accordion note at 0:48? It's so obnoxious.

Nice pick, I think it fits the game well.
