I'm sorry, buy I hated this movie. My mom said it was the scariest movie shed ever seen and that it gives her nightmares to this day, so I was a more than a little dissapionted by this cute cheesy horror flick
Saw Willard at one of my first visits to an inside movie theatre. Never saw Ben but remember the Michael Jackson song. Willard rocks! TEAR EM UP!!!!!!!!!!
'Willard' was such a great drama/comedy which developed into the most scraiest movie I've ever seen. "Ben" was also scary, but had a lot of really beutiful themes in it. The 2003 remake of "Willard" was possibly the greatest remake of any film, to be equally as good, but not better, as the original. The trailers certainly are very good, thanks for uploading!
@opalshuman I agree .. about the offputting 'squeaking noise'. My ratties make those squeals when they are fighting or in pain haha. Ben is soooo adorable, I love the close-ups of his face in this preview :)
Oh man! I remember these movies! They would show them on TV in the 80's. We moved into this house and it had rats around the time I saw these. Freaked me out! I found a dead rat in my box of Rice Krispies for crying out loud! We moved so fast we forgot my new bike. What a nightmare. Crazy movies too!
The famous french philosopher Gilles Deleuze wrote a brief commentary on this film in Anti-Oedipus: 1,000 Plateaus. It begins the chapter "1730: Becoming-Intense, Becoming-Animal, Becoming-Imperceptible..."
to 1971Willard---------- i just watched "Willard" that you have on your channel. it was great. i don't know whether i had ever seen the whole movie before. at my place, rats live in my yard. sometimes i give them cat food, and i made a couple of videos of the rats. now that my cat is dead, the rats seem more willing to come out in daylight.
Adolf Caesar. He played Sgt. Waters in the film SOLDIER'S STORY and he was in the films THE COLOR PURPLE and CLUB PARADISE. He died in the late 1980's.
Wow, that movie was so scary in it's time especially in NY where the Rats are sooo big, now it seems like a silly horror film like the one about the alligators in the sewer. But Micheal Jackson sang a song about the rat Ben, it seems so crazy now.
Okay, I blame this movie for my terrible phobia of rats. I remember seeing this film as a real young kid one day on television around halloween I believe ,under granny's supervision, and it gave me this reoccuring nightmare of being eaten alive by rats! Our summer cabin in Colorado is like a haunted house to me because of it being home to at least one rat each visit. Good movie though, creative and original plot and obviously very effective. I'd like to read the book, "The Ratman's Notebooks."
in the movie "1984", a government agent tried to get someone to say something, and thus the government agent set a cage with rat(s) next to the person, and the government agent threatened to release the rat(s) onto the person. i have rats roaming around my yard. sometimes they come in the house. i use the name "ratty" as a nickname for any rat i find. i think i'll start using the name "ben" or "socrates".
Was trying to rent the original Willard ((971) and Ben (1972) from NetFlix. They only have the remake of Willard (2003) but your posting here should surfice in terms of catching up.
I saw Willard and Ben when I was 7 and will never forget it. Michael Jackson's song BEN was a hit.Golden Globe Winner for Best Original Song Walter Scharf (music)
aw! the rats are so cute. I find it so funny that rats in movies are supposed to be 'scary' and 'gross', because I can't help but go "aw!" whenever I see a rat in a movie.
Sure wish they'd show this more on Chiller or some other channel, it's a classic that does not get enough airplay. I like the original much better. I've seen it sell on ebay for over 50$ for the two VHS used tape set!
@TruthSearcher4ever if you can afford to own a computer and an internet connection, then you can afford to spend a lousy five dollars for a movie you need, then you can accord to respect the motion picture industry, the people who work on the films you enjoy, the people who pend hundreds and thousands or millions of their own hard earned money to invest in what they love.
Respect.
You dont "need" this movie - you "want" this movie.
Thanks for posting this. I saw the "Willard" trailer a long time ago, and while I still think the music is a bit cheesy, it's a really good trailer...and it flows seamlessly into the "Ben" trailer. Hard to believe that that song was written for this movie.
One would think that the (underrated, IMO) remake would've spurred a DVD release of the original.

Now those are some worthwhile horror flicks, better than trash like the SAW & Final Destination movies.

For some reason, I find the 70s horror movies more disturbing...I don't know why.
