Dude.. You kick ass bro. THAT was AWESOME!! I got Eliminator for my 16th birthday after already been listening to AFTERBURNER for a time, & this was definitely one of the stand-out tracks of the album. I used to put his album on through my headphones when I went to bed..I will admit that I stumbled across this video quite by accident, but you had me from the start dude.. U see I've ALWAYS appreciated good music & have only JUST bought my first guitar at the age of 35 but, if I could even get to
@DougyG76 Hey thanks for the very kind words brother. Billy G is one of the reasons why I started playing guitar. I've been a fan since I was kid myself. Years later and he is still an inspiration. But - Congrats on your first guitar man!! Never too late to start and it's easier than ever to learn with all the media out there. Just be patient with yourself, try to keep at it and stay tuned for more of my vids as well - I have alot coming this year.
hey hi, what string gauge do you use ? i tryed Billy's Gibbons but theyr so skinny, hard to get around with the tone and sustain but as he sais the amp and pedals create the tone to compensate.
@smartti1970 hey brother - I prefer 9s on EBMM guitars and 10s on Les Pauls. I've had the honor to discuss this very topic with Billy a number of times and you are right...he really does play 7. 9. 11. 20. 30. 40s and has for years. To me it's all feel and personal preference...there is no right or wrong. Try some 9s if you want...they are still quite light but might feel and respond better to your guitar. And everyone - don't forget to REINTONATE if you change string gauges. Good luck!
@DirtySteve232 Thanks, cool you reponded ;) .... yeah i got 9's on my Strat my fingers wont take higher gauge, i tryed the 8 and thats the one that lost sustain... i dont mind the very slightly less fat tone, i do mind the sustain loss thow..... ... every now and then i get one off my fingers skin pulled under the nail and then i cant bend anymore caus it hurts and i do use three fingers for bending...but obviously either doing something wrong or need 8 gauge ! ;-)
Thank you for bringing this to the tube! My favorite hard drivin' rockin blues songs. I dont get to crank my axe and you have helped me understand a few things that I am exited to practice on, Well, time to start building the calouses again! My dusty axe and I thank you!
Have you noticed that Billy seems to play this song differently in concert than on the record? I think you're doing the record version. I think I'm right on this, it might be a different key he plays live???
@tlapower I have actually - and yes I was going for the recorded version here. Not sure what key, but Billy loves to tweak the live jams and change it up a bit -
I am learning this track as I write, where did you get the tab?? This is my all time FAV TRACK from ZZ Top, and any tips you could give me to learn it would REALLY be helpful
amazing stuff. for the life of me I cannot get the sound you manage on the pinched harmonics around the 32secs mark. You couldn't do a small video showing how you do it please?
@smitty97 hey thanks - if you can pinch one then you just have to try moving up and down that A string - this particular harmonic is just behind the neck pickup so try it looking for it..with distortion you should be able to find it - but yes I think I will do a vid about artificial or pinched harmonics....they are wicked fun! Thx again-
BRiLLiANT - ace - i love this track and the solo's - i searched to see just this (the solos being performed just as record - unfortunately Billy G cant/wont on live sets on YT)
Hey.....A truly awesome track and a truly awesome job in pulling that off........I was off in my own lil world watchin you play maan...........nice 1 :)

very nice but one thing.. , the two chords from the intro and verse are Am and G
not just A and a G... it is not wrong what your doing but if you should play that Am it would sound better.
