I can see that but your interpretation of this piece is how i feel Bach would have played it. Bachs works can be interpretted in many ways And unless you feel it it can be ruined. Its only my feelings my friend but this is the closest thing i can find to perfection for this particular piece ( hence the Crossroad comparisson) I was not being flippant just an observation. But the flow, timing, pauses have taken hours of practice. Glen Goulds version lacks your subtlety friend.
This version of the Allamande is the best i have heard. I argued with some guy about Glen Goulds version of this and tried to get across the subtlety of Debrucys interpretation. Bach oozes through Debrucys fingertips While i struggled to understand Goulds version. However Goulds version of the Allamande in No.2 French suite is sublime. What do i know?? But what i like.
Bruce, I love watching the reflection of your moving hands while listening to you playing piano, Could you please film your future videos from this angel too? Thanks! Excellent play btw. Look forward to more of your videos. Greetings from sunny California on a rainy day. :-) ~Annie
You added ornamentation to the repeats in the Sarabande. I do this also. My ornamentations are somewhat more straightlacedl! I'm not sure now where I got them from. I annotated them to my Augener edition. Maybe a Bach pupil or son wrote them out originally. The Sarabande makes an excellent organ piece.
@gerardbedecarter My interpretation of most of the suite (particularly the menuet) was largely inspired by Joanna Macgregor, but a few ornaments were either improvisations or mistakes that stuck :P.
@debrucey i think he is referring to the legend of guitarist robert johnson being told to take his guitar to the crossroads at midnight. they say and met the devil who gave him mastery over the instrument in exchange for his soul. in short, he means you kick ass. there is a badass movie called 'crossroads' with ralph maccio that is basically about this in modern day.
It's amazing how naturally Bach's music can sound... Bravo!
