Develop as a musician, develop as a band, develop as a person. but the attitude changes after the first album, they are not the same band that recorded their 1st album. Its more polished and refined. Musically it may be more developed, but its not as raw.

@TheHerbmon Exodus? Never surpassed BBB. Metallica? Kill Em All still the best for me. Slayer? I do prefer SNM to RiB but both are amazing. Testament? Check. Annihilator? Check. But what about Anthrax, Megadeth or Kreator? You won't tell me that Spreading The Disease/Among The Living, PSBWB/ Rust in Peace and Pleasure to Kill/Extreme Aggression/Coma of Souls are worse than the respective debut albums of those bands.

@kettle18 "Reign in Blood" is severely overrated I think. Its a great album and probably one of the best Thrash albums of the 80's, but fucking "Hell Awaits" was so much better. It was more developed than RiB with far more intelligent song writing. It was essentially Slayer at their best. RiB stripped down their music and simply went for being the fastest shit on the block. That doesn't make it their best.

@GoongalaGoongala In terms of the writing for the songs yes. As in terms of speed and aggression, RiB tops Hell Awaits. I do like Hell Awaits a lot though, especially since you can hear the bass guitar a lot better in HA then RiB.

Popped that bitch in the deck and took out the insert to read the lyric's and said "holy fuckin shit fuck". Slayer def inspired me to pick up the guit. Now i play to get laid and I'm gonna keep playin till I do! When you die may you achieve total conscienceness!

It's taken a long time for Slayer to actually top that or at least come close to it and I think they've done it with World Painted Blood.

Master of Puppets may be the fan favorite, but Justice is by far their most technical and structural album making it my personal favorite. All Master of Puppets did was put Metallica on the map, the same thing that Reign in Blood did for Slayer. That doesn't necessarily make it their best album.

I'll admit, Puppets isn't my favorite by Metallica (Lightening is) but still, Reign in Blood was not only Slayer's best album, but arguably Metal's best album (next to about four others). It's certainly the best thrash album at least. I'm sorry man but there's really no comparison.

@wazza32295 Also, to say that Justice was Metallica's best is borderline heresy, because Cliff Burton only wrote about half of it, and he was what made Metallica as amazing they were...you know, 'till he died. James started doing the writing that Cliff couldn't do and so as a result they started to suck. The Black Album was their last good album, I refuse to argue with anyone on that.
