  • The claw-nuckle rule was new to me and quite useful!

  • I use onion in almost every meal I cook, and it's always a race against time to finish chopping before I start crying. Thank you for this video!

  • @dancenekkid You're welcome. Once you master how to cut the onion fast, without injuring yourself of course, you will win the race on onion. I also found out that placing the onions in the fridge overnight helps your eyes a lot when you chop them the next day and of course having a sharp knife is very helpful too. Mariette

  • Thanks that's a very very easy way make more vidzzzzzz

  • @devonnarocks8 You're welcome! I am making more videos. They will be uploaded shortly. Thank you for commenting. Mariette

  • Your knife looks really dull. You shouldn't need to use a sawing motion to get through an onion.

  • @chickensammiches A sawing motion allows a lower minimum of pressure to be used, increasing safety and precision especially for people with low strength or coordination.

  • @Lastman0nEarth With a properly sharpened knife, the weight of the blade is almost enough to get through an onion with one stroke which means that very little downward pressure is needed. If you need to go back and forth, than your knife is too dull.

  • @chickensammiches Apparently your reading comprehension sucks as much ballsack as your grammar does.

  • @Lastman0nEarth I'm not responsible for your complete lack of understanding basic fundamental knife skills big shooter. That fact that you chose to respond in such a petty defensive manner just proves how clueless you really are.

  • @chickensammiches Again, lack of proper English makes your answer absurd.

  • @Lastman0nEarth Ahh the ramblings of a pseudo smart guy...You do realize that the youtube grammar police consists almost entirely of world of warcraft junkies who've never actually seen a vagina in person? That being the case, I admire your conviction. Enjoy you doritos and mountain dew...

  • @chickensammiches You know, I've never eaten a dorito. Mountain dew is kinda tasty but I'm not a big fat soda hog like you. WoW is boring...more your cup of tea, I'm guessing.

  • thanks i just turned 18 and im going to live on my own. Now i can finally cook meals but i always failed at cutting onion

  • Thanks for taking the time to make this video... It was very helpful for me... Its like I always say. Lets all learn from each other... Joe Tactical

  • Brilliant demonstation - very easy and straight forward to follow. Thank you for this.

  • Word of advice. If you leave the root end on rather than cutting it off, it'll help keep the onion intact and stop the layers from coming loose in your hand. Some people, especially those new to cutting will find this easier.

  • @iloveprauns We welcome all suggestions and ideas. Thank you for your input.

  • I didnt know 2:57 chopping onion was the reason for you "arse" to burn

  • Life's a lot easier when you have a sharp knife..

  • thanks for the tips of the freezer and sharp knives. i ve always put a toothpick in my mouth and bite down and that does not make me cry!!

  • great

  • that's the only way to cut an onion?

  • @chibchobiano23 The purpose of this video is to demonstrate How to keep the sharp edge of the knife away from your fingers. The horizontal cut is to chop the onion finer. You can have strips of onion by cutting the onion without the horizontal slice. If you want the result to be onion rings, then hold the onion whole in the safest way comfortable for you, always making sure your fingers are blocked away from the sharp edge of the knife, and start chopping the onion into rings.

  • @HowToExpo You're welcome.

  • i can do it but i do it very slow and it looks pathetic.someone told me i need to practice

  • @katehilden The main thing is to cut the onions without injuring yourself. Keep practicing the safe way eventually you'll start cutting the onion like a pro.

  • im 15 and i love cooking and im allways trying to cut really really fast like they do on chef shows and litterly 1/3 times i slice my fingers :(

  • @knockerhead6 Cutting the onion fast is not necessary. Get used to cut the onions the right way using a pace which is both comfortable and safe for you.

  • Horizontal cut, no safe...!!!

  • Fast yes. Safe No.. This horizontal cut for an amateur is death sentence for the fingers. Safer way here culinaryarts.about.com/od/knifeskills/ss/onionchop.htm . No ?

  • Actually, you don't want to cuth the root off, the onion will start to bleed and you'll begin crying, and no one wants that :D

  • ERRR MANS HANDS AND MANS VOICE

  • Great video!

  • @Yortman11 Thanks

  • you certainly know how to cut an onion ma'm. i would rather watch this video and use 3 minutes wisely than go online and buy a slapjob for 20$.

  • how to cut an onion without hurting yourself 8)

  • this is a million times better than any "expert" village shit video. well done lady.

  • @majorpainful Thank you for your nice words.

    Mariette

  • please for the love of god sharpen your knife. you seem like a really nice lady and i really don't want you to cut yourself

  • WOW! that was awesome thx!! Anyway does it work with potatoes?

  • @thefunful It works with anything you want to hold and chop.. Potato, parsley, green onions. The main thing is to hold the vegetable to be cut or chopped the way demonstrated in how to cut an onion video. Keep safe.

    Mariette

  • hey....its not a log......you shouldnt saw at it.

  • thanks for sharing your brilliant idea!

  • @angelevi3 welcome

  • Great - except I'm afraid I'd cut my hand off on the side-ways cut. I bet you could make those cuts back when you're cutting the onion in half. Just don't go all the way down.

  • Hi @RFouts0 You do the way you feel most comfortable of course. The way I do is I hold the onion high from half top and press it down before I start making slits for finer onion cuts. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • BRILLIANT! Thank you!!

  • @sdmomxs3 You're welcome.

  • girlfriend just ran upstairs to try this.. good work.

  • wow.....

  • It would have been funny if she cut herself while making this vid

  • leave the root end and you have more to hold on to as you get toward the end.

  • ty great vid

  • thx very informative

  • thank u so much..... itr reaaly good

  • Thanks, great advice !

  • Just by watching it i get tears :D

  • This is exactly how I was taught to do it! Also, I set the onion on the cutting board whole and cut almost all the way down and thinly slice across and rotate and do it again and then lie it on its side and finish....

  • thank you

  • thank you :) u r great always i like your channel alot :)

  • Thanks for the tip Mariette, very usefull.
