Recorders used to be professional instruments, until the flute came along and recorders were downgraded into grade 3 instruments playing really simple and crappy songs by people who don't know how to play a wind instrument. Sure, the flute does sound better, but the recorder still sounds great and doesn't deserve this fate.
God i hated third grade, my music teacher didn't understand a thing about music, he made us play mary had a little lamb OVER AND OVER AGAIN. good lord was it boring. A month or two later he brought BACK the recorder and made us play 2 notes played repeatedly over and over. When we didn't play right, the bitch started screaming at us! i thought I'd never play the recorder again, but then i said to myself, fuckit let's try it again. And holy crap did it feel good.
The thing is, when our music teacher made us play the recorder, the songs that were chosen were his recomendation. What a focking retard, two notes and mary had a little lamb. WOWWEE
I love and miss my recorder. I bought a kit that had a soprano recorder and Lion King songbook when I was about 7. I actually managed to figure it out by myself. When I got to 2nd grade and the teacher started to teach the other kids I had to sightread and play "Hall of the Mountain King" to prove to her that I was ready for more advanced stuff. It was a lot of fun. I love that I can just pick up a recorder and play. No reeds or anything needed. I'm going out to buy another one tomorrow. :)
I've had 3, soprano, alto, and tenor. The tenor was my favorite, as the other two are too small to play comfortably. I have considered the bass recorder, even the (extremely rare) great bass.
U kidding me man? Recorders make some of the most beautiful music. People shove them aside cuz they see them as basic beginner level instruments. A recorder can make some music some instruments can never comprehend. :p
Who would have thought you could get such a beautiful noise from recorders! I still have bad nightmares from when my music teacher made us all learn silver bells on ours... *shudders*
This was very good! The recorders sounded very good together!
