@nitepanther when you use your first special, you only loose health if you actual hit someone with it. if you use it and dont hit someone, you don't lose health. when you use your second special, you lose heath whether you hit someone or not.
I loved SOR2, especially the co-op mode... but it always annoyed me how cheap some of the enemies became on V. Hard/Mania; especially the ninjas and R. Bear. on the second part of stage 7, no matter how skilled you were - glitches and exploiting flaws aside - you never walked away without losing at least one life; and I usually lost a continue.
Yup this tactic is pretty effective and good thing it works with any character cus this boss used to be such a pain until I figured out that he ALWAYS did that uppercut on getting up :P.
Humm never knew that , but god damn i hate bear hes the second cheapest boss in street of rage history , the two blaze looking bitches in sor1 were the worst
Man, you beat all the bosses with Max without losing any life!
How did hou thought about these techniques? I play for many years, but I never had the imagination/inspiration to try something like that, I was always fighting the "traditional" way!
Simple YCSp. By killing yourself off around the first "big ben" the 2nd one will fall down and aggro you, caused of the standard lost a life fall action. So by killing yourself once, you can even the odds with max and 1v1 R.Bear. Or a 2nd way is to save the sword and throw it at him, bringing him well away from the boss.
If I lose the sword I get from one of the ninjas earlier in the level, I try to employ this strategy and it works pretty well just as you have shown. My problem is killing all the enemies before the timer runs out. I'm sure you know that killing the big guy (can't remember his name at the moment) that is with R. Bear will summon a lot of Galsia minions.
They aren't tough but if you try to use the strategy seen in this video with a Galsia around, you hit him specialling and lose health. -_-
The special isn't hitting anything. All default specials only do damage to the player if attack connects with an enemy. The offensive specials (forward a) do damage to the player regardless if they connect or not.
I use the special attack for the invincibility frames it grants, this allows me to avoid R. Bear's rising attack.
I totally appreciate you man. thanks

Another tip for beating this annoying boss is to pick up the swords a few enemy's earlier en keep slapping R. Bear in tha face ;)
