sounds like what happened to my Jetfire that I got back in 91....that Jetfire toy was soo freakin sweet...it had all the extra stuff....probably one of the best toys I ever got as a kid, right up there with the Hasbro AT-AT , atari 2600 and GI Joe Cobra Night Raven
I always wanted one of these. VT-001 was my absolute favorite veritech because it looked totally bad-ass. It looked more human than the rest and...well...I can't find words to describe everything else. F***in awesome. there we go.
@CollectionDX I think my practical indoctrination with the Grumman F-14 growing up (my grandfather was one of the guys heading up the AIM-54C Phoenix project out at Point Magu air base) has something to do with it.
NO FUCKING WAY! man i used to have one of these, they were probbaly made before my time but if i remember correctly, i came across it at a carboot sale about 15 years ago. Must have only paid about 50p for it, maybe less......god knows where it is now. Anyway nice vid!
No- Jetfire is the repaint, not this one. This toy was made in 1990, and Jetfire was made in 1985. But the original molds were made in 1984 in Japan for the Valkyries.
If the head looks the same as the one above, then you either got the VF-1S Strike Valkyrie Ichijyo ver. (*drool*), the VF-1J Valkyrie Milia ver., or the "Transformers"-ver of Jetfire.
i've got that.....only my cockpit does open and its yellow not clear.also my landing gear is all metal, even the wheels where as yors appear to be rubber or plastic....cant really tell.
And it was because of Hasbro that Matchbox couldn't import the Valkyries as the Robotech Veritech fighters. Instead, they released an oversized plane that had its legs fold down. And that's it. There were no arms to pull out and form into GERWALK (Guardian) mode!
There is a lot of legalese involved since Robotech came out, so it's always VERY difficult to bring anything Macross over from Japan to the American market.
Nice review, Eva. I have an old Masterpiece VF-1S (in the cool book-shaped box), I think it's from the mid-90s or something, maybe late 90s, and it too has the metal bar that swings forward, attaching the legs to the 'hips'. It's interesting to see that that design concept came from as far back as 1990.
These toys were originally manufactured in 1984! The version shown above was modified by Bandai in 1990 after they acquired Takatoku Toys [who made the original version(s)].
Very interesting history lesson. I got this toy in the early 90s and still have it complete and intact. Although I do refrain from putting its armor parts on; they're just too difficult to take off and I feel they'll just eventually break.
I had this once upon a time ago, though it was in the form of "Jetfire" from the Transformers toy line at the time. Its the exact same thing, just colored differently. Matter of fact, I had two, but I don't have those anymore. It was a long while back when they got destroyed in our juvenile antics. LOL! Oh well, if we had them, they may be worth something today. Too bad. :(
I always thought this toy and Jetfire were one and the same (just different colors), but I recently saw a review that showed the detail on Jetfire's head, and they're different. It'd be cool to see a side by side comparison of the two toys since they look very similar.
Watch my video review of the Origin of Valkyrie VF-1S Roy Focker Special.
The head used on it is the same one used for the Jetfire design, just colored differently. Additionally, that was the original head design for Takatoku Toy's VF-1S. The head show in the video above was changed by Bandai after they acquired TT in 1986. Unfortunately, all later reissues of the TT VF-1S use the original head rather than Bandai's (boooo!).
Right- Bandai made that change when they acquired Takatoku Toys in 1986 (who originally made them), but all later releases used the original replacement-canopy piece rather than the cover shown in the video above.
I illustrated this later on when I did the reviews for the Origin of Valkyrie line.
Bandai re-released these things in Japan late last year. The only difference I can see at a first glance is that on the new one the front landing gear is also spring loaded.

Can't disagree there! ^^ Although, I gotta admit, the Hikaru -1S Strike is by far my most favorite VF-1 EVAH.

Thanks.
Even though the original toy(s) were made in 1984-86, this specific reissue was made in 1990.

Nope- there were never any 'evil' Valkyries.

OK, another difference: The Cockpit cover is also different. It is a replacement, not a slide-over thingy

F-14 Tomcat

Well, a mish-mash, really between the F-14 and F-18 Hornet, with a little thrust-vectoring thrown in for fun.
(Actually nowadays it looks closer to the F/A-18-E/F Super Hornet, though they obviously didn't know that back in the '80s...)
