Oh holy crap, I never even knew Super Nova was a sequel to this! Heck, I thought Super Nova was a standalone game for years. (parents bought it for me when I was five since I also liked playing Super R-Type.) I was checking out this video because Darius Twin just got released on the Virtual Console, and when I saw that ship I thought "oh wait, where have I seen that before? ...SUPER NOVA!"

I love playing Super Nova, so chances are good that I'll download this sometime in the future.

So the trick to beating this game is that the HI SCORE area of the screen is a relatively safe area outside of boss battles. Very little goes there. It's also a pretty easy game anyways.

What was the other shmup Taito came out with? It's sorta like this but you could choose between a green, red, and blue ship and you could choose to go to different areas labelled as letters. They had their own weapons and upgrades n such.

@KissMeImPunk You're thinkin about Darius II for Sega Genesis if I'm not mistaken. You started out on the Sun, and the rest of the area were different planets and you chose which area of the planet to go to by picking a letter

I wasn't all that impressed with this game back in the day, but in retrospect it's quite a marvel compared to many of the early snes shooters. There is almost no slowdown, even when playing with 2 players.

First Darius-game I played as a kid. I still love the game. and after that i fell in love with the rest of the series.

MUsiCS ROCK. The only best thing in this game. And ofcourse Silver Hawk's desing.

Darius was a lot of fun, but difficult as a kid. I remember being happy as hell when I found the extra lives code just so I could beat the game lol.

The music is amazing too, I still remember most of the songs to this day.

It would be nice if the enemies who took more than one hit flashed when you registered a hit. I just ordered a copy of this and its SNES sequel, Supernova on Amazon for a really low price. I'm a huge fan of Darius Gaiden and G-Darius, which came out for PS2 as part of Taito Legends 2 not too long ago.

I remember this game. Along with Super Mario World (which was packaged with the SNES) this was the first SNES game I ever got, around when I was 5 or 6. Now all these years later I still haven't beaten it on the console itself.
