@nado2s ramjets work at mach 0.1 but don't give significant thrust until mach3.0 and will reach mach 5.5 to 7, a proper high speed wind-tunnel will make a ramjet work efficiently with the most power exerted, a scramjet however needs to be at mach 5 to 7 before it will run because it requires a huge amount of compression and heat, it can give a ridiculous amount of thrust and will continuously break the sound barrier at whats called "hypersonic speed", mach 12(current) to 24(expected).

I learnt that a ram-jet engine needs forward momentum for to feed air into the combustion chamber,so how does this function?

@Squarerig a ramjet system is usually built in the main engine which is usually a turbofan jet engine, the turbofan gives the jet a head-start and continues to run until it reaches its max speed at mach 3 subsonic speed, the ramjet system takes over after achieving mach 3 and continues supersonic flight at mach 5 to 7 and theoretically the scramjet takes over by shutting off the main engine inlets and diverting supersonic air into the scramjet, and then igniting and propelling towards mach 12
