  • god, that's huge for only a Jr. high orchestra. Is this a performing arts school?

  • omg i played there except i was in elementary at the time! :P

now i moved 2 pa, otherwise i would be in that orchestra.

  • Hmm... Impressive

  • Ha! I love the way the director conducts. Our director isn't so exciting, but I like ours better. Look for the Canyon Vista Orchestra video of this song.

  • is it me or is the damn conductor having an orgasm? o.O

  • @ownhellz Oh god, he was my conductor for my 7th grade, he got so mad at us that he smashed his baton on to his stand and it flew like 20 feet away. As for the orgasm sometimes in rehearsals he would wear a beanie which made him look like he just got laid and hopped out of bed D:<

  • 1:06 - 1:39 is my favorite!

  • i'm playing this in 7th grade orchestra

  • im in 6th grade and we just got this music in my orchestra :) we're playing it with my school's band :D

  • Ha, many of the people here just replayed that piece (but for full symphony) for their high school concert.

  • Peterborough's Kawartha Youth Orchestra is alot better

...no offence.. plus the KYO is mostely 13-14-15 year olds

  • We played this in a week at camp. Good fun. I love this performance!

  • im in the 8th grade and we did this for symphonic consert.

  • omg im in it :DDDDDd

  • This is fantastic! When I was in high school, we also played Russian Sailor's Dance and to this day, the piece gives me chills every time I hear it. hats off to everyone in this video!

  • Wow! As my students at UNK say: "Way cool, dude."

Yes, the Shubert Unfinished was a delight to listen to--you truly have in these two orchestras a pot of golden talent in each hand--one junior and one senior. These young people deserve the praise and your good leadership.

    Thanks to you all.

  • Davis High should be and is proud of its orchestra. Many of these young people will go on to careers in music, but all will bring to their lives team work, self-disipline, commitment, and a joy for music and the arts, something this country desparately needs from it future generation. Congratulations, Director Brucker: your hard work shows itself very well.

  • We are indeed proud of the high school orchestras, BUT this is actually the Jr High Orchestra. The High School is even better. You can see some of the High School performances on my YouTube account. I particularly like the 1st movement of Schubert's Unfinished that they just did this spring. And, yes, many do go on to study music in college.

  • I guess I should have also said that we are very proud of the Jr High Orchestra as well. Downbeat Magazine named them the best Jr High Classical Ensemble in the 2010 Downbeat Student Awards.

  • on friday orchestra 8 graders (me) are gonna play this!

  • I loved playing this in high school on the violin!!! :-D

  • no percussion?!!

  • thats a big jr high orchestra!

  • you are way better then me with a saxaphone

  • that's one.. er..

    enthusiastic conductor..

  • @VMFA115Starloric

    He's one of my conductors.

He threw out his arm arm last year becasue of his entusiasm

  • Ohhhh good times, nostalgia of me in band in the 8th grade doing the timpani :D.

  • eh. decent. my group did it better but that's cuz we were an audition group. you guys are a school.

  • You guys are a lot better than some of the High School Orchestras on here. I Played this 20 some odd years ago and it brings back so many memories. Our Symphony Orchestra was 100 players strong. Well done!!!

  • I played this song two years ago with my orch out of Oberlin Colege. Now I'm in the high school orch.

  • whos the conducter

  • Greg Brucker, one of the music teachers for the orchestras at the Jr Highs in Davis. See the web site in the info box for more details.

  • Beautiful.

  • you guys are tough enough to be a russian sailor..i am going to cry

  • Comment removed

  • I played this with my high school orchestra, and we did it better, but considering that we are an advanced high school orchestra versus middle schoolers im gonna have to say that this is very exceptional work. Good Job!!

  • you did a wonderful job!!!

I played it in 7 th grade and it was my favorite but it was very hards! we had a hard time with 2:24

  • Let's not forget Gliere's masterpiece is his 3rd Symphony 'Ilya Maromets,'from 1906. Try listening to it, if you can find it.

  • wow you guys are really good! i was in a advanced orchastra class and we played this song but you guys played it way better!

  • omg davis junior high orchestra rocks! im in intermediate :D, cant wait to be in advanced next year!

  • your amazing!!!!!!!!!!

i play this song in orchestra

but i think we have an easier version!!!

    keep up the amazing work

  • The Penn State Marching band played this, it was so fun to play!

  • the flute part is really hard in it as well

  • we are doing this for our band concert and i think we do sound a little better but we are the best and srongest 7th grade band the school has ever had..... ps we are also doing bellas lullaby smoke on the water highlight from starwars and mission impossible

  • Thanks for all the information we don't need...

  • well ur not so great either....=P

  • Im playin it in 7th grade band and its easy lol

  • Well it depends which version you're playing =]

  • Yea, I played it in 6th grade, and it was a different version than this. It had some wicked, at the time ofcourse, solo in it for the clarinets. I thought it was hard.

  • My school orchestrais playing this

  • I'm playing this song in 8th Grade and I love playing the cello part.

  • *sigh* It's just not the same without the brass and woodwinds in there.

  • i agree hitsugaya64 becasue im playing this in my middle school and im in 8th grade so its fuckin hard and the temp marking is 155 beats per min

  • this was great! my orchestra is trying 2 play tht but its not as good as this!

  • wow this is pretty large Orchestra for a middle school, Im in highschool and we have a pretty small orchestra.

  • Try playing this in a concert band (Trumpet, Baritone, Bass Clarinet, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Percussion, Tuba, trombones). It's so much harder. I can play it on violin easy, but jesus its at least 300 times harder in a concert band.

  • i have to say this was not the case for our band. we were an advanced group, and played this song in grade seven. with the same instruments you said.

  • yeah i'm in cncert band (im alto sax) and at the fast parts it gets a lil hard cuz your fingers run away from your mind and then you end up rushing and blah blah blah but otherwise i really like it

  • We're playing this for festival and tour in our HS orchestra. I luv it, but we can never seem to get the off beats in the beginning right...

  • this brings back the memories

  • Whoever thumbs downed alley's comment is a fag.

  • What!!?? what happened to the 1st Violin A part a 1:40 ?? there's supposed to be a slew of 16ths. Anyways good overall, especially for junior high.

  • Play it, then go to Russia, damb it!!

  • This is really hard for me to play. UGHHH can't do it!

  • Sure you can! Just practice, practice, practice! If I can do it, you can...

  • This brings me back. Played this seventh grade string orchestra, eighth grade small ensemble. Out of all the years I did orchestra and studied privately, this is one of my favorite pieces, probably because, while I did lots of Russian and Eastern European pieces in private study, it was rare to do one in orchestra.

  • Yes this is a hard piece and It is okay but remember you have only been in band for like 3 years so good job

  • The beginning could have been much more... well, "together" would be a good word. The beats between the upper and lowers strings were just a bit off.

  • ya, im in junior high, and we have to play this, its hard!

  • lol my teacher said that the cello solo should sound like a fat person doing ballet! haha I laugh everytime..im playing this and poet and the peasant..both amazing peices.

  • Wow that guys conducts really weirdly......Anyway yeah I have to play this piece and I'm in junior high and it's really cool piece. ^_^

  • when i try this is so damn hard but soon i get use to it and it normal difficultly for me

and those for who think it slow actually it suppose to be like that

  • Although they're a little off, it's still amazing since they're such a large group.

  • I cant believe this is a junior high school orchestra

  • awesome~

    :D

  • Is this really all just one orchestra? like for the whole jr. high school?

  • This is great.

    Amazing sound,

    etc.

    lol. (:

  • im in grade 7 and im playing this... but im not finished and not as skillfull as these people are..

  • this is awesome... our high school orchestra is doing this, and this is a jr. high... you guys sound great

  • it's sad to hear this song without brass :(

  • our middle school orchestra is performing this song on saturday with a professional orchestra! yay!

  • Great crescendo at the end, I could never do that...

  • we are playin this in my orchestra class. we are doin really good. we're goin to festival with it.

  • that was awesome!!! i'm in 7th grade and my orchestra is atempting to play this, but we only have the fist part down good. I play the cello.

  • my middle school played this... badly, but it was still fun.

  • i was in this years Philharmonic All Region Orchestra and we played this song..im in the either grade and string players from 7th and 8th grade played this. we did very well actually...and we went a lot faster at the animato part. but very well.

  • omg i played this this yr too in the plilharmonic orch

  • I played the abridged one in middle school...

  • wow i'm in high school and we just tried to play this and sucked..... kudos to these guys for doing this well

  • i loved playin this song we played it 4 region but since i made 16 chair i only got to plauy the 1st violin part. the 1st 4 chairs plays the 6th position part.

it is a funn song to play.

  • is it just me or were they not together after a few seconds in the beginning??? it sounded like it but idk.

they did AMAZING though! my favorite to watch and listen to out of all the Russian Sailors Dance videos/performances!!!!!!!!

  • This is the only school orchestra ive ever seen with a girl in 1st chair 1st violin. Our state festival had almost 50 orchestras, all boys in that position. But it sucked, cuz we played that at the festival, but we were on immediatly after the Denver Philharmonic, so they used the same standards on us as they used with them, and its like: we are fucking 9th graders~!

  • In my school, our first chair is a girl, and in the high school it was, but then she graduated. Now it is a boy, but our orchestras have a high percentage of very good female players.

  • I played this in 8th grade. 1st Violin A; 1st chair!

  • i played this song last year in tenth grade but our orchestra was about twice the size of this one playing so it was really intense and super loud when we played it! our orchestra was 9th to 12th grade people

  • it depends wether your playin 1st violins or 2nd if you r a violinist. i am playin it and its 1st violin and u have 2 learn 6th position.its east 2 me now.

oh i had a friend named shelby who was in orch lst yr that is in 9th gr now who played it wen i was in 6th

  • I played this song when i was in sixth grade and it wasnt even that hard

  • were at. do u live in texas???i get 2 play the fist violin part. i got 16 chair . :(

  • nevr mind.

  • I play the cello its fun i love this song

  • Beautiful.

  • An amazing piece. It's actually one of several in our marching band show this year, we brought in classics such as "Pictures at an Exhibition", "The Hut of Baba Yaga", "The Great Gate of Kiev", "The Hymn to Red October" and several others. Again, a great piece.

  • were playin this for region orchestra. i love this song.

  • yeah im playing this song for region orchestra too!

  • IM PLAYING THIS SONG

  • HOLY S*** 7 BASSES

  • we played this and it didnt cound as good as how you guys played it. this year i got moved up so i can play the 1st violin part :)

  • Well done! I played this last year in high school (violin) and i loved is. A different arrangement, but still great!

  • u guys rocked it. good job. we're playin this for our fall concert and i cannot get it to be very fast.

  • last year i was in 7th grade and this was our peice for string ensamble auditions sadly i didnt make it in but i made it in this year and the song we hand to play was Themes from the Moldau by bedrich smetana

  • VERY SPLENDID 5 STARS BRAVO!

  • I played this is senoir ochestra...I played the bassoon....it was one of me favorite tunes of that year

  • I am playing this I am in 8th grade (all of 8th in one group) our arrangent is easy as ****. I like this one better. I play cello, by the way ;-)

  • i played this in my 7th grade year in band i admit this sound better than our ensemble

but its still a kool piece either way

  • awesome. i am playing this song in orchestra right now. InsAlnCroManiaCk is actually my stand partner. U guys r insanly good!! here are too many violins though (i am a violist :P)

  • THIS IS INSANE!! JUNIOR HIGH ORCHESTRA!?

my high school's orchestra has like 4 cellos and 1 bass...

  • there's never enough basses!! always add basses as they are the coolest instruments ever! (i play bass btw if u didn't catch the drift)

  • Hehe,me too.Bass is the coolest instrument.I played cello for 3+ years and it just wasn't workin for me so I got smart and switched to bass.Bass rocks, but seriously,I would like if I could be more than basso continuo every now and then. Seriously, most of the bass sections I've been in have been more than capable of much more than continuo but very little exists in the way of bass-featuring music.Bass is a beautiful and fun instrument though and I get much more enjoyment from bass than cello.

  • lol, fast XD

    nice

  • i played this in my band it sounds alot better with a band not and orchestra

  • I played this, only with my orchestra, it sounded more dark and communist-ish...Might have been a variation.

  • i can admit yall are more together than my orch in highschool but we had better tone

  • nicely in tune and together i can give you that but 7yeah this is junior high

  • We played this in High School with the full orchestra part. Viola and trombone.

  • oh wow i remember playing this song in 8th grade. we use to play it as fast as we could just for fun.

  • I reached about 200 bpm by my self and our band reached 160 bpm.

  • impresionante

  • also, around 2:20 violins start to lose control and the cellos start to rush pizzicato.

we had the same problems too last year. xD

  • i played this last year but at a faster tempo. :D

its okay it sounds nice anyway. i love the cello solo(i play cello myself. :])

  • I played this song for French Horn and I felt really bad for the trombones on those runs, but they seemed to enjoy them so idk.

  • I played it in 8th grade! fun song. :)

    I play flute.

  • i like this song when its played with great power

  • yeah we are playing this for our schools graduation and our full orquestra just played this.

fuck the 16th note runs on trombone grrr

  • i played this song in a trombone quartet in a concert; it was extreme, especially when you're the only one playing a sixteenth note run.

  • PS- nice job on the camera work and editing. For a junior high school, this is nice! really smooth

  • Im in 9th grade and i've played this song twice. It's gotta be my favorite song to play of all time for cello. I know how hard this piece is and you guys played it really well. Good job 5*'s!

  • i played this like 3 hours ago at a concert as a violinist. fun song.

  • hahaha i can't believe there are 167 comments on here... i'm 3rd cello but i really don't think its as great as everyone says...

  • ahh, my teacher let us look at this song for like 30 minutes and then she took it away! i want to play it now!! D:

  • Your teacher is evil!!!

  • omg we're playing this tonight!!!

  • We (my orchestra) couldn't even perform it that well and we are in high school.

    Nice job!!!

  • im also playin this song in strings (class) at school but it doesn't have the band part. I play the cello part. =)

  • i'm playing this for my concert in banddd i play trumpet tho! sounds wayy different lol

  • oh that's so cool i play the cello part to what shool do you go to.

  • fuck.

    they're good

  • it sounds so different then the one i learned at school because my band doesnt have any strings in it, lol. but this version is cool too

  • This is a wonderful interpretation, very moving

  • this version is a bit diff then the one at school i learn but it sounds really kool

  • wow...we play way slower than that =.="

  • man, ur version is awesome

the only complaint i have is that the conductor seemed to focus on the 1st's too much and let them take over the viola/cello melody, same thing for when the violas have all the 16th notes

  • молодец!

  • i am too but a little different

  • I am playing this song in my school, this song is pretty awesome

  • mm our school is doin this osng.. only the band version

  • that is one big orchestra for jr high. NV or V?

  • as a voilinist i am telling them to watch their bows

  • hmmm. they need some...

PERCUSSION!!! I play the timpani in this song at our school

  • do you know who wrote this song, or versian of this song?

  • Russian Sailor's Dance is by Reinhold Gliere. This arrangement for String Orchestra is by Jamin Hoffman

  • Ok, it is just that my band is playing this song and it was written a certain way JUST like this and my director knows the guy. Even though my band is playing this, you guys kick the snot out of us on this song!

  • dang ur good im learning how to play this 2

  • haha were playing that in band!

  • dude how old r u guys in there awesome i am in my advanced jr high orchestra playing songs such as fire walk and over the waves and i am 13 so is everyone else except some 12 year olds

  • wow thats a long line of bass players! how big is the viola section?

  • There were 18 violas

  • 18?! Omg thats awsome!

  • is this orchestra just strings ?

  • Yes, it is a string orchestra (just strings)

  • wow large ensemble must be a lot of string players in your area

  • wow these guys are good. played this last year and they did some cool stuff with it.

  • wow they are good. the top orchestra at my school won best in state back in the 06-07 school year and these guys sound better than we do. lol

  • we are playing this piece for NC youth symphony and i m in the 2nd violin...i absolutely love this peice...this one doesn't sound good without brass and woodwinds...
