big difference here,she is singing,but the track is also running,she is singing along with the taped version. so she is not actually lip sincing. that is how she is doing it. Faith never lip sincs to songs. the taped version is done just in case there is a slip up. I read about this. they insisted on her doing it this way just in case of a problem.another popular singer refused to sing it this way. he insisted on singing it live. I won't mention his name.

OK...I just watched this in HD on the NFL network and I couldn't help but wonder if she is lip-synching. At 0:46, in the song she sings "majesties" with an S. If you watch closely, you can see her lips saying Majesty, with no S at the end! It is super clear to see in HD video. Lip-syncing at it's finest....Go back to the studio, live performanes at crunch time arn't your thing!!

MrMhel2009, your story would be good if it were true, but it's not...when Faith sang at Super Bowl 43 (2009) as seen here, she was introduced as the FIVE TIME GRAMMY WINNER - so she was already enjoying a thriving career. Secondly, she sang at Super Bowl 43 in 2000, already an award-winning artist (she began winning awards in the early 1990's including cross-over awards in 1998 for her forays into pop).

So your story about her being "discovered" here is nothing but that...a story.

I heard Whitney was scheduled to sign and backed out two weeks before the game. The TV exec's went nuts "who are we going to get now?" Some low level sound tech spoke up and said "Why not Faith Hill?" Obviously none the exec's or remaining crew were country music fans (they had never heard of Faith Hill). They called her, she sang at the Super Bowl and after that day just about everyone knew who Faith Hill was. Her career took off like a rocket!!!

That started in 1993; before that, there were choices. In 1993, Garth Brooks threatened to leave/not perform at all if the producers didn't also show his new music video at the time.  If he left, there would be no anthem performer. Since that incident, producers require a backing track be recorded a week ahead. Just before show time, the producers and artists decide what to do. It has always been an option to lip-sync, but since then, the backing track is mandatory.
