Murmur was / is a great album ....but this song ,more than the others has matured . When REM play old songs they invariably do a technically superior version of the original. Wether its to your taste or not is besides the point. ,But I dont think they could juice this up any more. This is a band 10-15 years ahead of even themselves.

Yeah me too GWBsux, and mostly happy times....good memories :) I was a little too young to catch it on first release (7 lol), first heard "Murmur" when i was 13, and in my opinion it remains the greatest thing they ever wrote. It was made for the IRS best-of release Eponymous in 1988. Hence the "In 1987... preach preach preach" caption at the end and the huge sign for the Fox Network, which did not exist until 1986 (Murmer was released in 1983).

the girl at the beginning , pushing the dollys pushchair, is that a fabled cabbage patch doll? I think so, this could be another stipe trick. Cabbage Patch Dolls. or kids as they are now known were first mass marketed in 1983(same year as this song) and were also manufactured o Cleveland GA, near to where REM hailed from.
