  • marilyn is one of the greatest female singers of all time.paul williams may be a little man but he was of the biggest song writers in history.he wrote hit after hit for so many groups and also was in the movie smokey and the bandit.

  • QUANDO A HUMANIDADE VAI ENTENDER QUE A DIVERSIDADE É A NOSSA SALVAÇÃO????????????

  • Paul is one of our greatest songsters. Great music and Marilyn makes it priceless.

  • Loneliness. Takes the romance out of falling stars

Fills the wishing wells and fills the bars

Run and hide the scars of loneliness.

What beautiful, heartfelt lyrics. When Marilyn sings these lines here it should send chills up your spine and make the hair on your arms stand up. If not...check your pulse.

  • Am I imagining things, or did Ms. McCoo have Shaun Cassidy on the show once? I think I have a memory of a magical musical moment of them singing together. Perfectly matched voices for harmony. Is there anything she couldn't sing beautifully? Hmph... And Shaun Cassidy was almost entirely overlooked as a singer because of his more famous brother (and I think I read he had some discomfort performing) even though Shaun has the superior voice, IMO.

  • This duet should have never have happened.

  • I just love Paul Williams. He's a great writer and singer. He doesn't get enough credit for his talent!!!

  • Karen took RAINY DAYS AND MONDAYS, and sold over 1 million copies and it hit Number Two on Billboard...so she made it her song!!

  • Love the music and the performers. Marilyn is such a beautiful and talented artist, Paul wrote some of the best lyrics and songs. Nice to see them perform together. Don't need another reality show with drama queens/kings or a audition show tearing people down in front of millions of people. It would be nice to have a simple show that showed off the talent of singers and musicians.

  • What a fantastic duo !!! Two of the best, ever !!!

  • Paul Williams was a fantastic song writer...who liked to sing a little , too.

  • Paul Williams may look "Like a troll" (in the words of my aunt, not me) but he is one hell of a songwriter/performer/actor. An amazing man, altogether.

  • classic stuff

  • this was a beautiful performance. but leave "rainy days and mondays" for karen, n'kay? she was born to sing that song, as well as many other of the carpenters' songs.

  • @No1KCfan6 Sorry, but the writer is allowed to sing his own song. As for many of the other Carpenters' songs... he wrote those too. So if you like her stuff, ya gotta give the props where they're due.

  • @TCinDC2010 fair enough. it's just that he sucks compared to karen. he should have stuck to just writing them and let karen sing them.

  • @No1KCfan6 - I'm gonna guess "No1KCfan" stands for "Number One Karen Carpenter Fan", which explains your sentiments. But remember not everyone agrees with you. I find Paul's renditions far more enjoyable than any versions of his songs performed by others (with the possible exception of the Muppets) Still... even though I prefer Paul I would never say Karen Carpenter "sucks", simply that I prefer his versions over hers as a matter of personal taste.

  • @TCinDC2010 happily, i know many more people would agree with me :-) karen's voice is worshipped by countless numbers of people around the world; just look around the web. and many singers emulate it because it is so distinctive, surrealistically beautiful, warm, rich, soothing, smooth, sweet, melancholy, magical, etc., etc. i actually feel sorry for people who can't appreciate the amazingness of her voice.

  • there is no doubt she is a very sexy lady

  • How nice!!! thanks you very much!

  • oh so nice

    not the crap heard today

  • Have not seen this and am very glad you posted it!!!!

  • i'D LOVE TO MEET THE 2 ASSHOLES WHO DIDN'T LIKE THIS VIDEO.

  • @Steven1ize Why, what'ya gonna do Big man?? LMAO!

  • I've been a fan of Paul Williams since Phantom of the Paradise, but that simply was my wake up call. Turns out I had been a fan of his music a lot longer - I just didn't know who had written all those songs I loved so much ;-)

  • Goddamn do I ever long for those days, free of irony and cynicism.

  • Marilyn McCoo is one of the most gorgeous women to ever walk this Earth. And her singing matches her beauty.

  • marylin Mcoo is one hot talented lady all around class -man i had a mjor crush on her when i was kid

  • There are many, many ways to say 'I love you' and I bet these two would be great together in other ways as well.

  • Paul Williams is a very, VERY prolific songwriter who often is unrecognized for the many hits he wrote for other people.

  • Absolutely first class. Paul Williams is a genius.

  • I havent heard from this little man in decades

  • Such class. When entertainers got dressed up for a performance, sang to perfection without all the vocal gymnastics and with lyrics that meant something.

    Thanks for posting.

  • If I got a kiss from her like that I would have fell out of the chair !!! LOL

  • She is a princess !!! I love her !!!

  • Superior!!!!!

  • Oh no, Marilyn! Watch out, that Swan will make you sign your soul to the devil! :)

    A nice duet!

  • beautiful !!!!!!!

  • I miss lots of things about music/variety shows from the past, but that feigned banter and emotional exchange between singers/hosts wasn't one of them. Even as a kid, I cringed whenever I watched two huge stars (who more than likely didn't even get along) ramble on about their feelings for each other and how much they enjoy singing together. It was painfully obvious that the dialogue was scripted and rehearsed. Even worse were those phony romantic glances during romantic ballads. Uhhgg..

  • The saddest thing is that so many people fell in love to the tune of a Paul Williams song and never even knew who he was. His love songs defined a generation and I only hope he continues to write more.

  • @danngazz is ignorant i pity him

  • actually Marilyn has a 4 Octave Range ..

  • Beautiful video of 2 immortals full of respect for each other. In the end Paul Williams tells her " I love you" what a wonderful way to close a love song...Sad we don't have that now a days...Thank you for sharing.

  • One of our greatest songwriters. So many special love songs, sung by people like Marilyn and The Carpenters. Thanks Paul.

  • Marilyn McCoo is the lead singer of The 5th Dimension one of the best bands in the 70's & 80's...She is a fantastic singer and a beautiful woman..I hate these young shits who make fun of our singers from the past..Why don't your young ears appreciate the voice of Paul Williams...shit I think he is fantastic...or I'm just getting old! Screw you still!!!!

  • @bensev1 I totally agree!! I have left comment here on the Tube time after time about how this generation is clueless about what real talent is! You are so right about Paul Williams. He is a legend and hardly anyone knows a darn thing about him?? How is that possible? It's because the entertainment industry does NOT want talent like Paul or a Bobby Darrin coming on the scene! Go figure that one out!? Your not old, just smart and you know a great talent when you hear it!

  • @bensev1 kodoo's go out to the 5th Dimension as also one of the best premier bands of the grov'in 1960's partner............I have all their albums from 1966 on..........and yes these folks that don't appreciate music from back than.........have NO IDEA what music was like as opposed to today's standards such as Rap and stuff you really can't understand the words and all.........

  • @bensev1 I'm 17 and proud to say I fucking love Paul Williams!! :) Ever since Phantom of the Paradise where i first discovered Paul I've been interested in his music. Fuck this new hip hop and rap shit.

  • @WazzuliofRunetotem Hip Hop and Rap have been around for 30 years dummy.

  • @theblakgeek That's why i said "new" :)

  • @bensev1 Not old - JUST ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!! - Glad someone said it!

  • @bensev1 I'm a young ear at 25 years old and I have been in love with this music since I was a kid. I've never left it, which probably has a lot to do with the fact that I am isolated from my generation. You are correct, it is truly the best out there. Hands-down.

  • Marilyn McCoo--who in her heyday had a three-octave range--is one of the great ballad singers of the last 40 years. Williams wrote some classis pop songs--but he was no singer in comparison to McCoo.

  • dont think he was trying to be tho .... and u r correct !

  • catpurrrobertabobbi: She was the lead singer of the

5th dimention ,maybe you heard of them.

  • No idea who she is but an okay singer. This shows why I love Paul Williams! You can tell how much he enjoyed her voice and didnt try to outshine her! THATS a guy who has talent knows it and does not have to showoff to anybody! A real professional I bet he is as gentle as his music! Paul your amazing! I am charmed by you Mr. Williams!

  • why does it take forums like this to bring out the brave loud mouths that wouldn't dare speak out if people stood in front of them, say more about those writers than it does about the subject they put down? Paul Williams was and is clever and talented song writer that made a difference in modern music.

  • They are called haters and the world is full of them.

    Bastards!! I hate them.

  • He looks like Garth Marenghi......

  • Gee ,He was so short

when i was young he was considered sexy?

  • lolol

  • He looks like a hobbit....lol

  • lol lol lol sexy lol lol lol - his songs were good what has happened to him ?

  • Paul Williams is a National Treasure who HAS NOT been give his do by America. Let us all who Believe in him change that.

  • "given his d-u-e".

English is a wonderful language. Learn it.

  • Thanks for the correction smart asshole. Tell me, did I spell it correctly???

  • yes you did and that is Mr asshole to you my friend.

  • nah that's too formal, and I'm not a formal guy. I think Asshole or Ass hole fits you just fine.

  • LOL!!!

  • Thank you for posting this. Paul Williams is fuckin' awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I liked Paul Williams during his guest appearance on the Muppet Show, too.

  • these two voices worked together fantasticly.

  • Paul Williams awesome!!!

  • Such a wonderful find. Marilyn is such a great singer. Love Paul Williams songs as well. Thanks for posting. Greatly appreciate the talent's of both.

  • He sings better than she does.

  • Only in his dreams.

  • Actually, in reality.

  • beautiful and one I hope they keep on you tube.

  • It seams that looking back on these old videos that I find another song that Paul Williams has written. Rainbow Connection, Evergreen (theme to a star is born), just an old fashion love song.. the list goes on. It never ceases to amaze me how talented he is, I also applaud the man for giving up drinking ( he often says " you know you are an alcoholic when you can't remember a decade")

  • Wonderful ! Thanks for posting.

  • What a GREAT performance .. Never ceases to amaze me how Marilyn NEVER trys to overpower the duet but sings to the level of her partner ..

  • Absolutely! Spot on.

  • Marilyn had such a great voice..............

  • What the hell is Little Enos Burdett doing singing w/Marilyn McCoo??

  • He was a musician long before he was Little Enos.

  • No!

  • Yes! Rubberduck!

  • Wouldn't ANYONE have a "crush" Marilyn McCoo????

  • Paul looks like a guy with a major league crush.

  • Very good. I love that little guy! He's written some great songs! My favorite of his is "What Would They Say?" from "The Boy in The Plastic Bubble" one of John Travolta's first acting jobs.

  • i LOVED That song! Now i have to find it on here!!! lol

  • Not only are the original and several variations of "What would they say?" available here, but there's one where John Travolta sings it that I'd never even heard before!

  • So powerful, so beautiful!!!

    Paul Williams is a genius!!!!

  • GREAT SONG THANKS FOR POSTING

  • LOL!!! You owe me a new monitor, man - I just spewed soda all over mine.

  • Beautiful!!!!!

  • Wow, what an awesome performance!
