I guess it doesn't really matter when notch nerfs creative farms and instead go for planting them everywhere in swamp biomes and even in mushroom biomes. AND he makes them farmable with bone meal.
On top off that he makes them non stackable. so mushroom is no longer a hard to get, but very good food type. instead something that is spammed everywhere and worse than porkchop.
@InsaneBeagle go to the user "sosolid2kk" and look at the info sidebar to the left. scroll down and you'll find a guide to rendering videos. I'm using those settings ;)
I know it's for runescape but it doesn't really matter :p
This will not be as effective in 1.8. A better way to do it is make every second seed-row only rocks, so mushrooms can't grow there, and in the remaining seed rows, fill every second block with stone, this is because mushrooms can't grow as efficiently as before, if you do this, then the whole farmed will be filled, instead of just half of it. But it will take a little bit longer than before. Thumb this up so everyone can see and get the most of their farms!
@draggy76 Actually, it doesn't work at all. Building a farm this way will get you 5 - 15 shrooms depending on how big it is (we're talking 10*20*40 big to get that amount) because of the way mushrooms work. if there's more than 5 mushrooms within a 6*6*3 area of a mushroom, it won't grow, so technically, the best way to create mushroom farms, would be to make a small room, with a single mushroom in it, and let it spread, and just make a lot of these rooms (harvesting using water).
@waffiewaffel I would agree with you on that... only... Giant mushrooms is one of the cooler things added with this update. taking out the fun of harvesting with automation is kind of pointless, because most of these wacky machines are made in creative mode anyway.
You must die a lot if you need that many mushrooms:D Nice tutorial but I think I stay with my semi automatic one(I don't need that many mushrooms anyway).
@bbruinenberg It was my first time using it so i had no idea how many i would get :D maybe I'll have some more use for it in 1.8 :) especially if it's stackable.
A buddy of mine and I tried this. I'm guessing the water is supposed to pop them off the cobble? Doesn't work for us. Also, how does the the farmer automatically grow more, if the water pops them all off?
@YourXboxClown Neevermind. Didn't understand how exactly it was supposed to work..you left out a lot at the end. We also made it so that the water automatically starts/stops/starts/stops. That way no one has to flip buttons/levers.
@YourXboxClown what's the point with that? i got over 1054 mushrooms on one harvest. all those mushrooms lying on the floor just makes it lagg. and you can download the world file if you want. it's in the description.
Very nice video, the instructions are very helpful. Can you help me with this:
when I create a couple of layers, how do I connect all redstone torches to one lever? I think I did everything correct: the redstone torches are lined up vertically with 1 cobble in between.
@differens you just connect to the block under the torch at the bottom. when that block gets power it will send the signal up to the torches which will active the redstone.
how do the mushrooms spread to the water canal areas when there are blocks blocking it from the second layer? it looks like the starter mushrooms are being blocked in. does it still work?
@DJRickinson they will pop up if any blocks around them updates AND they have light level 12 or more. just put your torches in a little distance from the mushrooms.
torches is light level 14, so you only need to be 3 blocks away from it :p unless you are making it in daylight!
Something i found out: How to save a little on redstone: Don't have to invert it. If you put solid blocks below each piston it will do 2 layers of pistons for every torch. Thus you don't have to invert the current every other layer, nor do you have to wire every other layer (the layer you will have to do the inverse of).
@Gmac3003 Then get on a server with Redstonechip's integrated make a clock for every 30 minutes and let it go off... we count this as automatic because it does the collecting for you, when u WANT it to.
@sethyboy0 "This is not automatic, it's semi." I would argue its fully automatic, you turn on the collection water it washes all the mushies down you turn it off wait for 200 ticks and go again
u should probly tell people not what lvl to not dig below >.< i dug to the level of the highest bedrock only to find out it needed to to be atleast 2 levels higher for water and redstone tracks to work xD heheh good farm tho!
So much simpler then mine... Mine gets a little over 600 though, but you have to walk around and pick them up. The water destroys them you just have to pick them up, Anyways good video.
Woh! I just pressed E on accident and then his inventory came up XD at first I was like "...." cus I thought I was playing... and then I was like, "wait im watching a video, HOLY JESUS"
If you keep the lever on(water flowing), will you still get the mushrooms? I really hope so, then I can just afk for some hours and have a inventory full of mushrooms. I'll be stocked with mushroom stew for life. =D
SICK! You're amazing for doing this! I went to a chateau in France recently, and they said that after digging out quarries, they built mushroom farms in the old quarries, which is what I was doing. But the only problem I had was that there wasn't any good tutorials (that I knew of) for building a mushroom farm, and now YOU have helped me SOOO MUCH THANK YOU :D

shame this is useless with giant mushrooms now.
CircleJerks2009 5 months ago
@CircleJerks2009
This farm has 2 really good things:
1 - You don't have to get bonemeal to get giant mushrooms.
2 - You don't have to "chop" the mushrooms 1 by 1. you can just collect them by standing on the right spot.
Conclusion; this aint useless at all ;)
