Dude if you find something like that let me know. All I can think of is like Ry Cooder with "Southern Comfort".. I love it. The bottleneck guitar and stuff is awesome. I  tend to lean towards the darker stuff too.

i don't know if this can help you but check out "free again" by robert pete williams, The early complete recordings by Dock Boggs (listen to his Pretty Polly on Youtube), and Fire of love by Gun club (especially the Cool drink of water rendition, great dark swamp blues). Also Nick Cave has done some great dark  stuff on his first two albums, From her to eternity and Firstborn is dead
