I'm a Soldier with over 20 years and two combat tours, still serving. Thank you for actually caring about my Soldiers enough to bring up these issues. The Republicans are total backstabbing hypocrites. Stop Loss is being used to fill shortages of personnel without having to resort to paying retention bonuses; these same Rs also vote AGAINST our benefits and pay raises. They send the money to their cronies at Haliburton/KBR instead.

I recently got out of the army and had a very close call with stop-loss. I'm glad to see that at least one person who doesn't pussy-foot around the issue. And also fuck those little yellow ribbons, it's meaning has been almost completely lost. Good point on the media coverage. I wasn't around during the vietnam war, but the news coverage you can find on the web certainly painted a far more realistic view of that war.Today if it's mentioned at all its usually watered down for public consumption.

soldier here, two iraq tours done. just got called back. all i'm thinking is couldn't they have found someone who HASN'T FUCKING DEPLOYED? there's a shitload of soldiers who haven't done a damn thing, yet i'm getting called back to do a third in five years. seems to me that the war has gotten too big to handle. i'm on their radar, so i'm an easy target. lotta guys who are still on active duty fly totally under the radar. it's like a business that expanded too swiftly.

John McCain is against a GI bill currently up for a vote because it raises college funds for veterans. He's afraid it will keep troops from re-enlisting. So much for a Vietnam veteran "supporting the troops". This is probably your best commentary, yet, Frank. BTW...I love how last year, right after Congress voted against giving our troops "equal time off, for time served", they went on their "summer break"... lazy, spoiled, apathetic co**suckers and corporate whores.

The biggest problem is those people brought up on stop-loss deploy absolutely. There are certain people in the military that have never seen a deployment but most of those brought up on stop loss are on there third or fourth rotation. If you are brought up on stop loss I think you should relieve the person who has never deployed and enjoy there stay-on-base job for a year and they should go. That is why stop-loss sucks, because you are called back to the most dangerous of assignments.

I support the troops and I hate that benefits, pay, and healthcare are lousy. The President & Congress are both to blame. Oh and there are only crazy people on the right? Your kidding me. Still more Americans care about American Idol than who is President. People seem to willing to move on and forget. The war is something for the Army to deal with. I don't agree with Frank but he makes a point that all of us need to pay more attention.

Sure it's in the contract, actually on several pages that a soldier will see in his enlistment process, but that's not the point devilsfurry. The point is, a human being is not programmed to endure a combat zone deployment for extended periods of times. And soldiers are humans too. They have psychological needs just like the rest of us. Treating them to extended deployments is treating them wrong, no matter what they did or didn't agree to in writing.

When you sighn your contract for the military, your sighing for four years of active service, and 4 years of inactive service, within those 4 years of inactive service the military has the right to call you back in. To all the people in the military who bitch about Stop loss read it before you sighn it.

99 cent SUPPORT THE TROOPS STICKER were Made In China! Frank, today they were talking about KBR, they were awarded contracts to TEST water, come to find out they didn't. Soldiers could have gotten sick and or died, that's supporting the troops alright

So OUR TAX dollars went to them for NOTHING.

There are a handful of troops that refused to be involved in war crimes, risked court marshal, dishonorable discharge, loss of benefits. In my book it takes a true Hero to resist the crimes. This sucks because it is like Vietnam. It's a war for profiteering, the trigger point was that Saddam quit selling oil in dollars & sold in Euros increasing his profit by 17% while U.S. couldn't just print up more counterfeit dollars, now had to trde something of value to get the Euros to get the oil.
