@Bspeder i think he was trying to make it sound more like a regal march to show the kaiser's nobility, and this means going a little faster (its still a little slow for a march)
@forgotmyoldlogins If you need a piece like this one to be played THIS FAST to remain bound, well then you really can't appreciate the beauty of it. The Kaiser walzer was meant to embody the glory and magnificence of the Imperial Courts of Austria and Germany, it needs to be slower for that purpose.
@WisiG Emperor Franz Josef of Austria had invited Wilhelm II of Germany over to Vienna, J. Strauss was to present his new waltz which originally went by another name, but it was suggested to him that he should name it Kaiserwalzer, so it could refer to either of the Kaisers (Franz Josef / Wilhelm II), flattering both, alienating neither of them. The Kaiserwalzer, when played properly (unlike that vid) is indeed glorious and imperial.
@lovesdawnat71 NOT TRUE...the Nazis appreciated great classical music...yet they were murderous bunch. The same butchers would shoot the jews, gypsies, etc., and go home to listen to classics. Go figure.
@lovesdawnat71 dude Wagner was a musical genius and a horrible man! Oddly enough there seems to be little dependable causational link between appreciation of classical music and high quality of character....
@lovesdawnat71 For real? I like this piece but, do you know who else liked this kind of music? mexican dictator Porfirio Díaz. And also I've heard that Himmler (you know, the nazi guy) used to play in the evenings with some friends the Beethoven's late string quartets (wich are some of the highest maesterpieces of histoy of music). So we must conclude that music is beautiful but it doesn't make a better world, such belief is actually dangerous. People used to fight for a better world, you know?
@lebannen21 It`s just music. Do you think the holocaust wouldn`t have happened if himmler would have listened to pop musik. People can do bad things, but still can enjoy good music.
then you dont know what its like playing with out a conductor on a hard song wiht a verey tricky rythem i played this song in my 7th grade music concert last year so awsome you need a conductor for rythem speed timeing its worth it.lets see you going to places and playing music that is hard wiht out a conductor!!!
Absolutely right. Moreover, he's just a "solid" one, none of the greats either. Has spoiled many recordings, who would have been outstanding without him (e.g. the "Werther" with Gedda and De Los Angeles). He should stop conducting and retire.
I recorded the waltz from a life transmittion of the 2008 New Years concert from the radio. But mine is played much slower. It can't be the same concert...
Wuuuuuuunderschön.... Extreme- wahhhhhnsinn... lach... Naja - leichte Übung - habe das in meinem eigenen Video mißbraucht - aber - das ist sooo wunderschön... Habe ich voll und ganz genossen... Wem das nicht Gänsehaut drüberwirft, der hat selber Schuld, ne?
