  • I like this music

  • largo...

  • I love the conduction. Laego as it MUST be...grande maestro pretre...

  • If anything, then too slow. This is the Kaiserwalzer, not the chamber maids waltz.

  • I agree. Too fast. Strange that...from Pretre...

  • george praitre

  • Sembra una marcia :(

  • winds looks like they're having so much fun!

  • our orchestra played the same but we needed 12 minutes for it:D

  • IT S NOT THE RIGHT SPEED FOR THIS VIDEO!

the actual George Pretre's tempo (not really fast) can be heard (and seen) in youtube's Wuyuan8 videos

  • Świetne.

  • I wish people would put a cough drop in their mouths before attending a concert such as this.

  • fast tempo?

  • this clip is sped up to fit youtube's 10 minutes anyone agree? the actions were unnatural

  • @lhlee888 Yes, I thought that as well. It seems to have lost some of its' grandeur and stateliness. Shame.

  • IMMORTAL OSTERREICHER KULTUR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!so beautiful like alpen roses!

  • Georges Pretre la dirigen /Francoise/

  • Fast, but still good music

  • This is WAY too fast.

  • What the hell is this ? This is way way way too too fast ! Don't they have ears ? Listen to one from 1987 instead.

  • Too fast and too rough.

In the same concert they played the Blue Danube in the same manner.

For the Blue Danube this was perfectly right but not for this piece.

  • Apparently they were racing through their repertoire -- this is WAYYYY too fast.

  • stargen5 @lovesdawnat71 You are crazy. This - may be best waltz ever been composed - has nothing to do with the nazis. It has been composed in 1889 44 years before the nazis became in power (1933). May be you are American and therefore you know nothing about history in the world outside the US. God knows everything but Americans know everything better.

  • @heuds1 Very true Americans know the price of everything and the value of nothing, no history, no culture, but they did give the world McDonalds need I say more.

  • *sigh* this piece always reminds me Tom and Jerry's "Johann Mouse". If you havent seen it, youtube it, and you would totally love it!

  • This is the best version. Though the audio is a little bit scratchy. Does anybody know the conductor's name?

  • @khonda123 Yes. Georges Pretre!

  • These Viennese Cough A LOT! screw that -.-

  • Magnifico.

  • great performance

but why is that cellist afraid to use his 4th finger?

  • Cof, cof, cof .... kill her please.

  • i like the beginning , if you close your eyes, you can really feel the atmosphere ..

  • EGAD!! TOO FAST!!

  • ayecandy, this video is in bad condition. The real interpretation is a way much slower.

  • no, it's not too fast

  • Many try it today, but there is only one New Years Concert, and people from all over the World coming only for this to Vienna (Wien).

    A Austrian Abroad.

  • Más señorial imposible. Grande, magnífico, enorme Georges Prêtre!!

  • Austria thanks for giving birthday to all your genius

  • i agree with Bspeder, slower its perfect!

  • too fast, too fast!

it should be played much more slower to be more elegant and to show so much proud that a kaiser shows!

  • @Bspeder IU absolutely agree with you. It's too fast.

  • @Bspeder I absolutely agreewith you. It'stoo fast.I wonder how the great Karlos Kleiber have played this one

  • @grscrd69e25h856v

I actually think that the uploader sped it up so it fits into the 10 minute limit

  • @TheRoflSaurus

you`re right .. look at the flute at 1:04 (maybe he played alot of mario so this can be real)

  • @Bspeder i think he was trying to make it sound more like a regal march to show the kaiser's nobility, and this means going a little faster (its still a little slow for a march)

  • IT S NOT THE RIGHT SPEED FOR THIS VIDEO!

the actual George Pretre's tempo (not really fast) can be heard (and seen) here:

  • @Bspeder

It's not the sleeping beauty. It needs a certain pace to keep the listener bound

  • @forgotmyoldlogins If you need a piece like this one to be played THIS FAST to remain bound, well then you really can't appreciate the beauty of it. The Kaiser walzer was meant to embody the glory and magnificence of the Imperial Courts of Austria and Germany, it needs to be slower for that purpose.

  • @Augustus077 Germany?

  • @WisiG Emperor Franz Josef of Austria had invited Wilhelm II of Germany over to Vienna, J. Strauss was to present his new waltz which originally went by another name, but it was suggested to him that he should name it Kaiserwalzer, so it could refer to either of the Kaisers (Franz Josef / Wilhelm II), flattering both, alienating neither of them. The Kaiserwalzer, when played properly (unlike that vid) is indeed glorious and imperial.

  • wiener philharmoniker. george pretres. musikverein

  • How about some more information. New Years Concert - where??? Who is the conductor?

  • It's the Vienna Annual New Year's concert. =)

    (In Austria.)

  • beautiful beyond description!

    Austria forever :)

  • is it Strauss or Walzer?

  • Strauss is the composer. Walzer is the German word for "waltz".

  • thanks

  • Johan Strauss- Kaiser Walzer (Walzer means Vals)

  • genios--no words

  • If only all peoples of the world could appreciate this kind of music, what a wonderful planet this would be.

  • @lovesdawnat71 NOT TRUE...the Nazis appreciated great classical music...yet they were murderous bunch. The same butchers would shoot the jews, gypsies, etc., and go home to listen to classics. Go figure.

  • @lovesdawnat71 dude Wagner was a musical genius and a horrible man! Oddly enough there seems to be little dependable causational link between appreciation of classical music and high quality of character....

  • @lovesdawnat71 Eurocentric viewpoint much?

  • @lovesdawnat71 For real? I like this piece but, do you know who else liked this kind of music? mexican dictator Porfirio Díaz. And also I've heard that Himmler (you know, the nazi guy) used to play in the evenings with some friends the Beethoven's late string quartets (wich are some of the highest maesterpieces of histoy of music). So we must conclude that music is beautiful but it doesn't make a better world, such belief is actually dangerous. People used to fight for a better world, you know?

  • @lebannen21 It`s just music. Do you think the holocaust wouldn`t have happened if himmler would have listened to pop musik. People can do bad things, but still can enjoy good music.

  • A cat that could play? A mouse that could dance? Hooray for Tom and Jerry, who introduced me to the music of the great master when I was a child.

  • It's the same for mee ! Merci Tom & Jerry !

  • sooo super gespielt alles!

  • Isn't there a way to listen to this beautiful waltz in STEREO here in YouTube?

  • then you dont know what its like playing with out a conductor on a hard song wiht a verey tricky rythem i played this song in my 7th grade music concert last year so awsome you need a conductor for rythem speed timeing its worth it.lets see you going to places and playing music that is hard wiht out a conductor!!!

  • Yes, it could. However, it would sound like a high school

  • Absolutely right. Moreover, he's just a "solid" one, none of the greats either. Has spoiled many recordings, who would have been outstanding without him (e.g. the "Werther" with Gedda and De Los Angeles). He should stop conducting and retire.

  • Thats strange...

I recorded the waltz from a life transmittion of the 2008 New Years concert from the radio. But mine is played much slower. It can't be the same concert...

  • what a wonderful piece of music

  • I think he's awesome. We don't get to see much of him, but check out around 7:47.

  • This is wondefuly played , I searched long to hear such perfect music.

  • Great Waltz, Strauss the best..

  • Someone tell me: How many players are there in this orchestra?

  • aprox 490 :-)

  • Mein Lieblingswalzer :)

Also man kann ja sagen was man mag aber Strauss hat definitiv die besten Walzer der Geschichte komponiert!

  • naja Chopin hat auch sehr schöne geschrieben

  • Strauss, never matched, impossible to better

  • Love it

  • einfach hervorragend!

  • who is the conductor???

  • Georges Prêtre, next year (2010) again.

  • hes the best

  • we played that in our school orchestra (i play bassoon 1) and from 7:05 to 7:15 you have to hold one note.

im only 12 and i hate holding notes for a long time.

  • Wuuuuuuunderschön.... Extreme- wahhhhhnsinn... lach...

    Emperor Waltz / Johann Strauss

  • ja, 2.18 ist die besten stelle, dieser aufschwung^^

  • I love it. From 1:30 is simply wonderful

  • By the way, Kaiser Walzer is german for Emperor Waltz.

  • Osman II. Waltz. Allah'u akbar.

  • The melody at 2:18..it remembers me so many things...

  • A little too fast and uneven at times. But otherwise an excellent performance, as expected from a New Year's Concert.

  • Too fast...

  • donostiarra, I've got the DVD of this Neujarhrkonzert and I can assure you that the tempo is not this one; it's much slower. This video has some kind of problem.

  • thanks so much for posting this. i love this version! is this version/orchestra available in cd?? there are lots of cds of this track by different orchestras. but i like this orchestra's play, any cd to buy?

  • Simply great!

  • Always a wonderful piece of music. This version is indeed a bit 'hasty' here and there. I'd say: try the 1991 version of xj808 and enjoy this excellent work in a slightly calmer tempo. Recommendable! Anyway xj808, thanks for posting both versions!

  • un peu rapide

  • It sounds a little fast

  • The same opinion...

  • This waltz is so elegant, so royal! I can almost see the ladies in long gowns and men in tales dancing it in the ballroom in a perfect circle and I wish I could be among them.

  • How wonderful it is!

    Everything is perfect!

    Great!

  • I hope the Radetzky March is attached to this video. It's hillarious and you'll love it!

  • Excelente, Great

  • 91 version is much better interpretated

  • i heard about this! I didn't get a chance to see it though.

thanks for putting it up! :D i'm playing this in orchestra now and it's great.

  • new years concert! vienna
