I timed all of the versions on YouTube - at least for the big name singers. The slowest is Siepi with Furtwangler. The fastest seems to be that of Bacquier. I have versions from 110 to 240. With the ENF file you can set the tempo for whatever speed you want.
This short aria is high for a bass and there is no where to breathe. This means that most basses will have to work their way up to speed. There will be a "Low and Slow" version with the aria transposed down from BFlat major to GFlat Major and played at about 180. When the singer can handle it at low and slow, he can move up to speed and to pitch.
There will be four or five different versions of this aria. There will be this the full version, and Music Minus One version that has no vocal line. This version is played Presto at 210 bpm. This is about the speed that basses take it. Baritones generally take it a little faster - about 240.
Troppo veloce for crying out loud.
Thanks for posting. This is a lot of fun.
