  • I agree with @Kitteh01 our city doesn't need any of that american stuff. We don't want to end up like New York. Or worse; Detroit.

  • Nice video. I rent 172s out of Debert pretty frequently and often float down to Halifax for a look around. Although as you're probably aware, Cape Breton is a much nicer flying destination. More to see and much less traffic to deal with.

  • CANADA is one Big place. I reckon that all Canadians should retake Alaska off the Yanks... especially that little strip of land below it called " Ketchikan" . Why that bit of land was given to the USA is silly really eh????

    LOL !

  • Personally, I believe that Agricola and Quinpool Road, as well as parts of Dartmouth (around the newly approved King's Wharf) are opportunity spots to build much taller buildings and improve density. Shannon Park is a good opportunity site, as it the Hydrostone. Highfield Park is also a great opportunity spot - near transit.

  • @halifaxboyns I so wish they'd develop Quinpool Road. Being behind Citadel Hill, we need not worry about height restrictions. Quinpool Road, actually, would be the rational choice for a tall observational-type building--such as Toronto's CN Tower. It would provide a view similar to what you've captured in this video, but a tad closer to the ground of course. This may be wishful thinking though...

  • The whole point of HRM by design was to designate a heritage area (which is mainly barrington Street between George and SG Rd) and encourage the Cogswell Interchange to be taken down to allow bigger/taller buildings. The city has also approved some taller buildings outside the viewplanes, which heritage groups appealed and lost at both appeal board and the courts.

  • Why dont we just find a spot in halifax where there is already a lot of development (around cogswell interchange, purdys wharf towers) and just slap all the big new buildings around that area. The view planes have been fucked up in that area for 40 years or so, and the heritage buildings have been well kept as well. We can keep the older buildings and build up around them, even on top of them in some cases. Then other parts of the city that are wealthy in heritage sites (south downtown)

  • can be preserved. All I am saying is if we want to preserve our heritage buildings, why would we slowly build large buildings randomly around the downtown area, trying to dodge heritage buildings and height laws, while completely ruining the atmosphere of most downtown neighbourhoods? Why wouldn't we instead find one area that has already been "ruined" and concentrate our high rise development there?

  • Very cool video. Too bad it isn't higher-res though.

  • I go to Clam Harbour

  • shoulda took a crap out the window on peter mckays house

  • @SpaceWars2025 HAHAHA. I don't like that man.

  • what island is that? ps good video

  • Go to the south end of the hfx peninsula...beautiful homes, yet many years old... Southend is basically where you live if you have billions of dollars

  • Great music scene, umpteen universities, left-of-centre politics... how can you call Hali conservative? I think you got it twisted. Knocking down heritage buildings for bland suburban sprawl IS THE EPITOME OF CONSERVATIVE. It's what old, white businessmen do. Trust me. I know. I'm from Hamilton, where all the heritage buildings have been knocked down for parking lots.

  • Halifax is a city with some history to it, however, this can be a great burden to it. For example, there are many houses that are just so old and haven't been fixed, it makes Halifax look really ugly.

Maybe if they made some actual modern buildings the city's population would rise and wouldn't be so boring for young people.

  • i've been to halifax a million times i live in barrington passage, nova scotia... i got to the mic mac mall [dartmouth] and my bro plays hockey in the sportslex

  • I Think You Were Over The Comons

  • Yes, Over the Commons where I live

  • I remember last year seeing a yellow plane flying really low around the city while I was going in town, was this you?

  • Nope, I was in a white and orange plane. Also, it was October 2007 when this recording was made. I'm guessing the yellow one was Jimmy Flynn.

  • where did you take off from? and where did you land?

  • Port Hawkesbury, NS for the takeoff and the landing.

  • I personally like that Halifax is outdated. Its nice to be able to look at things that have been around for a long time. What do you want? Huge skyscrapers and buildings that block the views and result in tons more trees being cut down....Why don't we just put a couple condos on Citadel Hill? :(

  • @Kitteh01 - outdated the fuck are you talking about,. Its the economic centre east of Montreal you asshole.

  • Being originally from Halifax myself, I have to agree that the city is too conservative, outdated, and not very progressive, especially with Heritage factions trying to derail its economic growth and block development.

Halifax is definitely a beautiful city, but now that I live in Western Newfoundland and have a great job, something I wouldn't get in Halifax because of my disability, I will only come back for an occassional visit.

  • @HalifaxHercules - LOL you're one to talk about being outdated and conservative. Halifax is the economic centre east of Montreal. Newfoundland is nothign but a primitive shithole compared to here with people who have very little education over there. you're an asshole

  • I lived in halifax for a year and a half. It sucks. It s small and boring and the people are conservative. They all have a bit of a stick up their asses.

  • I think it's probably great for outdoormen though and naturalists.

  • if by a stick up there ass you mean we know how to fuckin party!! I guess living here you are entitled to your opionion... but get out a little before you bash the place!!

  • Maiden, l ve lived in many different cities in my life..and I have to say Halifax pretty muched sucked the most. Sorry to inform you but maybe you need to get out a little before you blindly defend it. It s got beautiful landscapes though and I very much enjoyes the roadside lobster rolls. Maybe when i turn 65 and am ready to retire Halifax will be on my list. By then i ll be conservative with a stick up my ass too.

  • NO!

you don't get the history of Halifax it is a beautiful city, of course you think it suck cuz you have only lived there a year. I have lived to the city next to it and Halifax my whole life, AND IT IS BEAUTIFUL!

  • Small and boring, no, Conservative and outdated, I absolutely agree there.

I should know, I'm originally from Halifax myself, but now live in Western Newfoundland.

Even conservative and traditional provinces like Newfoundland are more progressive than Halifax or elsewhere in Nova Scotia.
