Do you think Taarna was one hot toon girl? and did you know James Cameron is a fan of this movie and the magazine? he used it as some of his various inspirations to Avatar
Indeed! did you know many filmmakers like James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, Zack Snyder, Luc Besson, Terry Gilliam, Ridley Scott and more are huge fans of that magazine comic? they used it as inspiration for their movies like Avatar, Fifth element, Blade Runner and more.
Fantastic movie and great 2 soundtracks as well! i grew up with this movie since 93 when i was 12 watching it on TBS with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule as i adored them all. Who remembers them too? I even bought HM on video in 96 at 15 and later replaced it on DVD when i was 19 after my high school gradutation and i owned the soundtrack at 16 and now own the score.
@Johnlindsey289 Well, lucky you are. You didn't have to wait very long for the dvd.
It wasn't finally released on vhs until 1996 (so you were just in time) and it wasn't released on dvd until 1999. Before that, it could only be seen occasionally very late at night on one of the big cable channels, so I, and many people, could only record our own copies that way. I was so glad to finally get the dvd with much better video/audio quality, plus the deleted scene.
Of course i bought it in 96 when i was 15 plus the soundtrack, i had a huge crush on Taarna for the longest time as i would bang her and Cheetara. If you adore HM as i do, i recommend these movies: Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Princess Mononoke, Fire and Ice, Ninja Scroll, Twilight Zone The Movie, The Fifth Element, Willow, Nightmare Before Christmas, Wizards, Wicked City, Avatar, Conan, The Dark Crystal, Urotsukidoji, Blade Runner, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Starchaser etc.
@SoulshatterEvolution It came out in August of '81 and I couldn't find the song on any of Nazareth's records from '81 back. I'm pretty sure it was a one-off for the movie.
@Loopen22 It's during the "So Beautiful, So Dangerous" story (the one where the 2 alien stoners snort the nyborg). Part of the song can be heard in the background just as the robot sees the chick boarded the ship. "Heyyy, who's the chick?".
Some of the Cheap Trick song plays just before that, while she's riding the tube (giggity).
@Billinois78 Oh, but only a very small bit of this song is played, followed by another small bit of the Trust song. Then "All of You" by Don Felder plays.
Johnlindsey289 first off if the movie has glorified rape in it I will not watch it or suggest it I believe in morale's.And no japanamation movie thus far has had the impact on such a scale as Heavy Metal did and you could understand the storyline better than the far out Japanese animation;I do admit I've seen some really cool anime come from them but the plot's are dumb so often;usually the same thought process as Godzilla excess overkill.
this is the magazine i read, snuck a peek at the little bookstore in town, and the old bat working the counter looking over her glasses, "ARE YOU GOING TO BUY THAT!!"
Me too, HM is an awesome animated movie eh? do you think Taarna is a fine piece of animated ass? and do you think The Fifth Element got ideas from this movie?
If you enjoyed this movie, check out Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. Another over-the-top nasty, sexy and ultraviolent piece of animation but with naughty demon tentacles, babes, rape, gore and every excess around that earned it's NC-17 rating. It's hentai all the way. And also see Wicked City and Ghost in The Shell.
I have Ghost in the Shell. I saw it a year after I saw Heavy Metal. I haven't seen Wicked City, but I've seen Urosukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend. And yes I definitely think that Taarna was a fine piece of animated ass. I also think that Luc Besson borrowed alot from Heavy Metal when he made the Fifth Element.
anime cannot compare to good old fashioned american animated rock opera! the original Heavy Metal will continue to be the standard set for all other wannabees in this genre.Sorry Japan-a day late and too many dollars wasted!
I used to rock this on a recorded cassette in my car back in high school. Killer fuckin' bass lines. Obviously Filter stole it for 'Hey Man Nice Shot"
Me too, and do you think Heavy Metal compares to Japanese animation? the Japanese do make mature audiences cartoons that are like Heavy Metal such as "Akira", "Ghost in The Shell", "NInja Scroll", "Wicked City", "Golgo 13 The Professional", "Vampire Hunter D 1 & 2", "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend", "Perfect Blue" etc.
Well Zack Sydner (Watchmen, 300, Dawn of the Dead 2004), Jack Black, David Fincher, Rob Zombie, Gullermo Del Toro ("Pan's Labyrinth" and "Hellboy 1 & 2") with Gore Verbinski ("Pirates of the Caribbean") are gonna helm it. I hear it will offer different animation such as 2D, CGI, Clay Animation, Stop Motion, Japanese Animation and more.
thanks for posting this song , did they only realase this song on this soundtrack??i've been looking everywhere for it.also have you heard the album "the newz" its kick ass!!!
I just bought the newz. I love it! To answer your question, I believe it was only released on this soundtrack. I have just about everything Nazareth ever released on cd.
One thing what I love about Nazareth is that they can perform a wide diversity of music and still be great at everything they do, these guys deserve to be HUGE in the US, they deserve to be as well known as bands like KISS, Aerosmith & AC-DC.
i saw this movie when it just came out in a big theatre in Guadalajara ,Jal. Mexico, back in the early 80ths, when the world was a magical place to live in.
It was mostly me and a bunch of other guys in Idaho standing around moving crap for them while making jokes like, "Initiate the Nazareth Project" and "Code Nazareth! CODE NAZARETH!".. Ahh, good times.
their song "love hurts" is anthem.
