  • "You Raise Me Up" is a popular song in the inspirational mold. The music was written by Secret Garden's Rolf Løvland and the lyrics by Brendan Graham, a veteran songwriter from Ireland. The song has now been covered more than 125 times.[1]

The song was originally written as an instrumental piece and titled "Silent Story." The melody is based on a traditional Irish tune, especially the opening phrase of its chorus.

  • I miss Pres. Hickley, he was a great man but I knew that God never leave us alone for he called again another great man for all of us.. I Believe in all the prophets of God..

  • a great tribute - "you raised me up to more than I can be" - I think our Lord smiles when beautiful voices and music combine in a wholesome way to pay tribute to Him and to lift up and inspire us!

  • This song was written to Christ, not a man.

  • @hogsandsooners I agree wholeheartedly. This song was dedicated to president Hinckley because the song shares his view of Jesus Christ.

  • @TheNickhis Except, he was not a believer in the Christ of the New Testament. Although Mormonism borrows the name of Jesus Christ to legitimize their faith, the doctrine is blasphemous in its teaching of Christ.

  • @hogsandsooners

We could go on and on about your lack of understanding of the LDS church, but your statement did not disprove that Hinckley viewed Jesus Christ as his savior, who (as this song's lyrics state) "raises [him] up, to more than [he] can be." There is nothing blasphemous in the LDS church's (or "Mormonism" as you call it) teaching of Christ.

  • @TheNickhis Let's see: no virgin birth, spirit brother of Lucifer, his death on the cross was insufficient in-and-of itself...blasphemous! Joseph Smith, if you will allow yourself to do some research, fits the the definition of false prophet to a "T". He conveniently omitted parts of the Bible that he chose and created the Book Of Mormon to tell his tale. Do you truly believe that as we are, God once was, and as God is we may one day become? You can't claim to believe The Bible if you do.

  • @hogsandsooners no virgin birth?? where did you get that from??? how about you get information a reliable source? And you totally twisted the words on "his death on the cross was insufficient in-and-of itself," we believe he atoned for our sins in the Garden of Gethsemane AND on the cross. Where in The Holy Bible does it state that God would provide no further revelation to man?

"Do you truly believe that as we are, God once was, and as God is we may one day become?"

    "Be ye therefore perfect..."

  • @hogsandsooners You twist words around and make up lies about our church. I will not attempt to argue with you any further if I have to deal with correcting your information that you probably got from some pastor who really doesn't want to lose his congregation (particularly the "tithing" money they line his wallets with) to the LDS church.

  • @hogsandsooners, What version(s) of the Bible do you believe to be authoritative?

  • @TheNickhis Why were black people not allowed in the church for the first century? What is the significance of their skin color? Has there been a "New Testament Of The Latter Day Saints" that repealed these ideals like polygamy, or like other contrived religions, did it finally come to light that it was flawed and bogus from the beginning? But, due to pride, and lives wasted in the wrong, the church chose revision instead of throwing in the towel. Too much money and power at hand to jump ship.

  • @hogsandsooners I have an equally good question, why would Christ not minister to the Gentiles? Was he a bigot? racist? Why did God allow Abraham more than one wife? Isaac? David (A man that God said was a "man after His own heart?

He's another one, what happened to the power to administer in the name of God? Christ gave men the authority to do that in his time, why is that power not evident in orthodox Christianity in this day? Even St Augustine admitted that he had no power to do those things

  • @bomac10000, God didn’t just ALLOW David more than one wife. He flatly stated (through His Prophet Nathan) that He personally OUTRIGHT •GAVE• David the wiVeS (PLURAL!!) of his master Saul unto his bosom (II Samuel 12 — key verse 8, but do read the WHOLE chapter so that you know that this isn’t out of context — note that Nathan is castigating David here for the Bathsheeba thing, which was the FIRST TIME that David majorly fell out of favor with God! What he says in verse 8 was BEFORE then!)

  • Sorry, I meant LDS (not Louisiana State!!!). And I've been told it's President Monson. He's such a warm gentleman..I wish him all the best and blessings from God!

  • shooster11,

"That same magic" has to do with two things: first, the recording isn't as good as one you'd hear from Josh Groban or Celtic Woman--hearing the Brett Family in person is a very powerful experience; second, they were not merely trying to imitate Josh Groban's style, but present it in their own way.

  • Understood, but they fell way short of the mark in their own intepretation of the song. Not every performance of this song is going to hit the mark everytime. Some people have the ability to do so and some do not. This family, as good as they are, did not do it with "You Raise Me Up." If that hurts your feelings or their's, so be it.

  • i agree

  • An "A" for effort, but it just doesn't have that same magic that Josh Groban or Celtic Woman has when they sing "You Raise Me Up."

  • WOW!!! Very good arrangement of the song!! Loved it a lot!! Very well done Brett Family Singers..very well done!! :D

  • Wow, that was way good! Good job to them, I love that song...definately a different approach than I had heard...but man it works :D

    Thank you

  • pretty song.. I really love it says. Good job, guys!!!
