Maybe someday, someone will have the common sense to bring back the good old days or at least make more decent cartoons. Nowadays, people just don't understand the difference between what a cartoon is and what crap is.
This is not anime. Naruto and all those other horrible series are anime, but this is far too good to be that.
I would never categorize this as anime, it's a Dutch series, and the characters are mostly designed in Germany. The Japanese just did the animation, so calling it an anime is almost an insult to this great series.
And yes, it was aired in the UK. Don't know why it never made to the States.
Well, I forgive you. I always just call it a "cartoon".
And I'm glad there are other Alfred J. Kwak fans out here. Besides it's country of origin, the Netherlands, it didn't become as popular as it could have. A shame. If some company would have brought it to the U.S., it could have attracted more mainstream attention.
Thanks for uploading, by the way. I never knew this was aired in Italy as well, and the opening is really good.
@Larrylarp Sorry to burst your bubble but Alfred Quack is DEFENITELY an anime. It was animated in Japanese and the first ever version to be broadcast IS the Japanese one. It's not sullying the name of the series as a lot of anime series at the time had the same production values as this one. It's not an insult at all. Check pretty much all the shows you grew up with in the late 80s. I'm gonna bet you that 50% is officially anime.
@MindOfCreativity That's right, the animation is made in Japan. The writing and the original concept came from Van Veen (Dutch, as you said) and the character designs were made in Germany. So its Dutch-German-Japanese. Van Veen even voiced Professor von Paljas in the Dutch original, though the Japanese at least had Megumi Hayashibara as Alfred.
Though even if it is called anime, I don't really care.
@MindOfCreativity Uh... no. The JAPANESE had Megumi H. as Alfred's voice. I just mentioned her because she's done voices in about a million anime series.
The Dutch and German versions both have the same Dutch lady, Ryan van der Akker, as Alfred. But I'm glad to clarify.
The series is only in English in... wait for it... the English dub.
Definitely Dutch with the original name Alfred J. Kwak. The middle name was changed in translation from Alfred Jodocus Kwak to Alfred Jonathan Kwak as to be devoid of any subtle undertones.
@Larrylarp It was animated in Japan, therefore it IS anime. It is in the anime style and directed by Japanese. I have to disagree strongly on that all anime is apparently all horrible.
However, the series is Dutch, that is right, and it did far from good in Japan anyway, however the Japanese version is the original as the Dutch version has been sort of edited from that version (for example changed from NTSC to PAL for instance, the show was originally made in NTSC). There's no going around it.
If you insist. But because the story is written by the Dutch and the characters were designed by a German, I don't usually categorize this as such. The anímation in Alfred J. Kwak is better than in most anime anyway. Thankfully, since the story is Dutch, this is watchable.
Not ALL anime is crap, but 99,9% of it is. NGE was pretty good. That's about it, really.
What? Animation in Alfred J Kwak is better? I'm sorry, but I cannot take that seriously. You obviously have absolutely no idea of the anime out there. Some episodes of Alfred are animated like CRAP. A lot of them ARE good, that is very true, but in comparison to Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, ANY studio Ghibli film, Naruto, Ghost in the Shell and I don't know at least 30% of all anime out there is animated at a much higher degree than Alfred.
@Larrylarp Oh and sorry :p I forgot one other thing. Anime is the word cartoon translated to Japanese. So... in other words everything animated is anime and everything is a cartoon :p
omylanta! this should come to America! it reminds me of Donald Duck!!! AND IT HAS NOTHING BAD IN IT! I was almost convinced japan was ONLY perverted... thanks!
Im dutch my own, an the serie is a real hype there. THis is one of the best anime's ever with the best story ever. In my opinion, dutch is the best (And ofcourse, original)
Pretty cute. You know, for some reason, even though I've never seen this before, it still seems quite familiar in some way. Still, this is a nice find, nevertheless.
where's the english?

ehat are you talking about
watch hayao miyazakis movies and you'll see that animes are much better than that
UlquiorraNo4 2 years ago
@ Larrylarp:
It is an anime!
Japanese did animate it, so it's an anime.
And why should "anime" be an offense? There are also very bad rock bands, but "rock band" is also not an offense.
Watch "Death Note" or some Detective Conan (also known as Case Closed) episodes, then you will see that there also excellent animes!
However, this one is a very good one, there I have to agree with you.

The main production company Telecable Benelux is actually Dutch. Although the Japanese did help in making the series.
