Wilmer and the Dukes (western NY fab band in the late 60's / early 70's) did this and brought the house down every time! fabulous song and done with the alto sax and gutzy vocals - damne - the women would go nutz! (we guys liked that part to!) Last time i saw Wilmer do this was a t the Inferno (Glen Park, Williamsville, NY) - it was like this video LIVE! then the Inferno was tourched by the city fathers who deemed black music "subversive". WOW!! TOO Much !!! Mind Blowing to think Joe had his own Show- How Cool was THAT??? Was this a regional show?? I assume late 60's? Where did it originate from?? THANKS for posting- a BONE-AFRIED Soul Classic, to be sure!!!
@Khultan. Your preaching to the pantheon. When you say "Never", you are on the trail of an injutsice done to many rock-in-roll pioneers who were African-Americans!!!
Though it seems uncomfortable to some in even these times to speak about-particularly- racial injustice in the entertainment industry, understand that the image of a powerful Africano "doin' his thing" was too much for the "establishment"!!!
@Khultan (Cont'd) This was applied to Mr. Arrinington, the delectable Carla
Thomas, and even Louis "Pops" Armstrong, to name a few. My dear fellow, i tell you this : If it weren't for Don Cornelineius' SOUL TRAIN", Don Kirchner's "ROCK CONCERT', nor Burt Sugarman's "MIDNIGHT SPECIAL", many of the 'seventies' Rock-Soul-Funk-"Ambient" acts would have never been known to the general public, much less my my humble self. (Cont'd).
Please excuse . I may have been born a little too late, but when the heck was there ever a "Joe Tex Show", and where was it aired? Certainly nowhere near where I grew up!!!The only time I ever saw Joe perform was on "American Bandstand" singing his superhit signature "Skinny Legs an' All"!!!

And further, while ppl in Britain may have enjoyed seeing the fifties pioneers of "Doo-Wop" well into the sixties, we here in the Us were deprived of these these 'legacy' performance footage of the the fifties from being aired in the sixties, and seventies, and eighties on TV, advertisement, etc, that was until the early eighties Nike-sponsored Bo Didley "Bo,-You-Don't-Know-Jack" commercials!!!
@gaforb@gaforb (Cont'd). Otherwise, we young'uns were led to believe that white invented the majority of "Rock,-Blended Harmony" music!!! Just like the so -called 70s 'DISCO ERA". Actually the disco revival, as we who are not "GenX-ers know full well the the "DISCOTEQUE'" (for truly, it was an innovation of dance MC presentation) started in Paris around '62 by a female named Regine. The 70s were a 'disco revival', and carried exclusively by African American "HOUSE PARTY" venues. from 1971!

hiya i'm from auckland nz and i was just wondering is Joe Tex the singer of ummm. I'm not quite sure what its called I think diggin' the garden, or pickin' your plums and cry over spilt milk, last time i heard these songs I was a little girl, i'm 43 now and have been tryin' to find these songs since, if he is then is there anyway for me to get them please please let someone have these songs...cheers
To jackiedre...Yes, those are 2 songs by Joe Tex. I'm sure you can find them on Amazon. I just did a Google search on the words from your post and got lots of links. Good luck!
What a talent!!! I love the Beatles but I know John and Paul was diggin and respecting what Joe Tex and James Brown put in the world's ears. This was from the heart...believe that.
My name is Monica Emery and I am proud to currently be working with Joe Tex II on a tribute to his late father. In my opinion, we are blessed that Joe Tex left behind a legacy of music that speaks to the heart, preaches to the mind and touches the Soul.
I remember when Joe Tex came to Ashtabula, Ohio, he was at the Ward 3 club here and he sang Ain't gonna bump no more with no big fat woman, and my mother did the bump with him, she still has the picture of that moment.
I agree. Today's rap is nothing--less than nothing. It is a bastardization of music from the heart and soul. Even the non-filthy stuff is juvenile whining and complaints worthy of two year olds, not a genre.
It was said that when they toured together, James stole some of Joe's dance moves. They had a rivalry going in the 60's Doesn't make a difference anyway they're both great.
Show me a man who knows a great song when he hears one, because this is one... Grew up listening to this guy, King Curtis, wicked, wicked Pickett, all on my Dad's reel-to-reel. Lucky me
Now that's a soul man Dad. Joe and his great revue use to play Leo's casino in cleveland bacin the 60's and would appear on Upbeat. Joe was heads above the rest back then, and yet he could take a country tune and make it his own. Who gonna take that woman with the skinny legs???
Actually they were out at the same time .... joe just took longer to get a hit but he was touring with Ben E King, and Solomon Burke back in the 50's as well ....the same time James started ...
yea i can see james stealing from joe, james kinda stole from sam cooke.on sams lable sar theres a song that was recorded back in 63 called "a womans in a mans world" by patience valentine, james reworked the song and bam created "a mans world".
