@JoeTheLion188 Hey...forgive an old woman for having a senior moment. Wish I had a picture of Tommy when he rode his motorcycle over to my house in the late 50's or early 60's. He took my little sister for a ride, and she still has the scar where she burned her leg on the manifold.
Is there anyway to up the sound to a stereo version? It's a great song, from Tommy, but it would be even better of a "live" vid. in a stereo format here on youtube.
The guy kept rocking and continued to quietly slip by the top acts of the 1960's to the top of the charts. First in 1962 with "Sheila" and in 1969 with "Dizzy" topping the charts more often than the Beatles in the 1960's.
Just another great song from the 60's, wow I miss those times and songs, today's music is such crap. I always try to find stations that play the od stuff. It is and always will be the best times for music.
Had a girlfriend named Sheila in 1963. I think this song came out just before that? She was a long legged, straight dark haired beauty...I was speechless when I found out she wanted to go out with me. I think my shyness made me come across as a dork. So...another sweet memory. Not many girls were named Sheila back then.
I was named after this song. I quite like the song but don't know why my mom thought is was so great to name me after this song. I was born in 69. It was a great year I hear.
I think it is neat to have someone else named after the song Sheila.. There are not too many Sheila's to begin with...Except for the men calling women Sheila's in Australia
Mmm..not bad looking! I'd never seen Tommy Roe before but I've heard this song many times before because my friend's dad had a well worn copy from his youth. In my childish way I always assumed that Tommy Roe looked like my friend's dad. I'm Pleasantly surprised. Great song, too!
Great song! As a goofy little kid, I always thought Buddy Holly sang this song. I guess there is a similarity in their styles. Thanks for uploading :D
Do any of you baby boomers remember an ABC afternoon show in the mid or late sixties called "Where the action is"?? I think Dick Clark may have hosted it but I could be wrong. Anyway Tommy Roe was usually a regular as were Paul Revere and the Raiders. Wow good memories. At trivia and quizzo nights a lot of people thinkthe song"Sheila" is sung by Buddy Holly.
No Dick Clark was the creator of the show, a spin-off to American Bandstand and yes Paul Revere & The Raiders plus Tommy Roe, Linda Scott and another bunch of surprise guests helped mc this variety show. It lasted from 1965 through 1967 and usually filmed by a beach side location in Southern California, great show. Buddy Holly did Peggy Sue which comes pretty close to the song tempo of Sheila by Tommy Roe. Those were the good old days no drugs and clean cut, maybe a few brewskees but that's it!!
Tommy Roe WROTE Sheila long before Buddy Holly did it.

Notice he's strumming 8 beats to the measure, just like Buddy did on Peggy Sue. Not very many do that.
Great song.

Tommy's musical style was much influenced by Buddy Holly. He worked with some of the greats, including Roy Orbison and Jerry lee Lewis.
Another great performer out of Atlanta!

I suspect that was intentional. For years I also thought that this was a Holly tune.
