Comparisons of the guitarist with Pink Floyd are irrelevant. He is a professional musician hired by Tricky, and I guarantee he is playing exactly what Tricky has told him to play. Next song, he may be expected to produce the hard rockin' riff of "Girls" or the weirdness of "Lyrics of Fury" or the Arabic trills of "Coalition" all without missing a beat...
