So different from the actual play -- the entire first act takes place in the home of Algernon in the lounge. But this is such a good comedy, I couldn't care less. Plus I love Colin freaking Firth.
This has to be the worst version of Wilde's wonderful play ever. It has none of the life, pace and wit of the original and the music is from about 40 years after the time the play is set. The characters are flat and two dimensional and the script has been cut to death.
TIOBE is just about my favorite play!!! I read it in about an hour and a half and it had me rolling over laughing!! This isn't a bad adaptation of it either!
Dreadful version of this marvelous play. I suppose they wanted to "update it" so that it could seem "chic" to the younger set. Ah well. For a more definitive version, see the one directed by Asquith, with Dame Edith Evans and Michael Redgrave. (Although they made some ludicrous cuts in the script in that film as well.) Or best yet, read the play. It's the best.
I dont think the adaptation is so bad--granted its not quite the way i had imagined it (especially not the end). However, nothing can compare to the play itself (definitely read it)

God the opening piano scene is my favorite scene in the movie and in the written play.
I thought it was very appropriate to cast Everett in an Oscar Wilde production too. XP

@esterbcn You've obviously never seen the play done properly. This travesty bears little relation to what Wilde wrote.
