I think I've seen several vids now of "live" performances by T Rex on television shows where the track is actually being played behind them and the band is clearly bored out of their heads because they're not actually playing live - I think it was typical at the time. BUT Marc sings over the top of it anyway so you get a mixture of both live and recorded vocals. I don't mind. :) But this one looks like the instruments are actually being played live maybe w a track too. Love the percussion guy.
@halag Just to let you know - this is actually 2 live performances edited together. Almost all of Bolans performances for this show - Musicladen which used to be called Beat Club - were double tracked as it were, but each one being live. If you check out Buick Mackane which was filmed on the same day (19th Feb 1973) they only filmed one take, so that is the complete live experience without the overdub.
@agentwilde wow! That's unusual but probably makes sense of what I'm seeing. Thanks for the info. I'll look up the Mackane thing. Need to watch this again now LOL
What happens when you die? Have you told lies, stolen, used God's name in vain(10 Commandments)? If yes, then you're a liar, thief, and a blasphemer in the sight of God. When you die & be judged by God, you'll be guilty of sin, & go to Hell! But God sent His Son Jesus to shed His blood & die on a cross for your sins, He was buried & rose again from the dead on the third day. If you'll believe the Gospel(Jesus died for your sins, was buried & resurrected)you'll not perish & have eternal life
I gota say, i never really took much notice of Trex . Then i got this riff in stuck in my head, so i learnt this song on Friday night, it sounded so mean i dropped a pill and cranked the amp up. This IS the filthiest dirtiest Riff... say no more. ... especially when blasted at a window vibrating volume lol
My mother and older sister used to fancy Marc Bolan, i grew up listening to T-Rex, now that i can watch all there stuff on you tube i have to say what a really good looking guy, those eyes, the hair the way he feels the rythym...oooof
This video is odd cause it sounds like he is singing (doesn't sound the same as the studio version), bu ton the same hand you still hear him fine even though he is away from the mic. Either way this is still a KILLER track by a guy that is still missed.
@TNO73 I'm only guessing, but it seems like he's using a [nowadays] common "trick" of doubling his vocals to add more depth. So I think he's singing live while having a backing vocal track running, too. The howl/scream towards the end is him getting into so into it, that he goes quite a bit early vs the backing track. No shame, as he's not lip syncing or doing a Madonna thing. He's really rocking it.
@TNO73 I noticed the same thing, not to mention his lips aren't in sync with the vocals in a few places. And you'll notice around 2:30 he points at the audience but you still here the guitar being strummed. Most likely the background track was recorded "live in some other studio" or a rehearsal tape. It wasn't that uncommon. I've watched various Musikladen videos and noticed a wide range of authenticity to the performances.
@Urko2005 I so agree. But now Adam Lambert has arrived! Phenomenal singer! Incomparable! Fabulous, adorable, sexyyyyyyyyy, intelligent, mega-talented Adam!
@Urko2005 Adam is the copy of no one. I agree he has many past artists in him but he is amazingly talented and no one is similar to Adam. And by the way, I´m over 50... :-) I was a die hard Marc Bolan fan in the seventies.
@Paeonia13 YAY! Yep. Bringing real music back. Love Adam's version of this song and he is very clear about his influences - including Bowie, Iggy, T Rex, Queen etc - you can see all those influences in Adam plus his own very unique style. He is responsible for me checking out this T Rex stuff - so glad I did. Love it! I would have killed to have seen this guy in concert when he was around.
@Urko2005 you obviously werent looking very hard then....plus its hard to be original nowadays when its so easy to point at older bands as influences...there's 3 decades or so of imitations and derivatives of great rock & roll to be compared to nowadays. Pretty easy to be different and original when hardly any genres existed.

I don't see what's about this Not the vocals anyway. Or maybe Marc had a unique closed mouth singing technique? 0:17

This is a better version than what was put to vinyl. He didn't need that stupid backing chorus on the recorded version.

FYI for the main riff just play an e chord then throw in some bends on the top (fattest string) 3rd fret, youll pick it up easy as

Urko2005 3 months ago
@Urko2005 No, I just like Alternative. The 90's had bands that rivaled bands of the 60's and 70's.
