In my honest opinion, Fleet Foxes should be #1. Yes, they did bring back Folk more popular (sorta). Yes, you could compare them to the Beach Boys somehow. But in all honestly, they created amazing art. Your top albums were crappy pop in my opinion, thing really special about it all. Fleet Foxes created emotion, and they are a perfect demonstration of why I love music, and consider it an art form. Just beauty all around.
Wait wait wait.... MGMT??? I mean come on they've put out like one decent song and that was kids. If we were to base this list off a single song you might as well call in the Baha men or whoever they were with the song who let the dogs out.
@AggrsveChimp Apparently you didn't even listen to the album. While I agree with a lot of people, that Bon Iver should be here and Fleet Foxes should be higher on the list, MGMT still deserve to be there. Oracular Spectacular was a great album and it would have been great without Kids, as well.
@negatyve All I'm saying is that I've heard around 12 or 15 of their songs, and I do like them. Just I wouldn't rate them quite so graciously as this list did.
Been In OZ for over a year thought i'd check out wht i've missed. Saw Elbow in Sydney at the V festival and of course KOL and coldplay heard over here as for the rest can't get excited over anything much apart from glasvegas and vampire weekend.. Is this really the best of 2008..... give me some bands to listen to guys..too much 80s stuff over here.
KOL should be no. 1, but i love MGMT so i dont really mind. I pretty much agree with the whole list...although im not really into Foals or Ladyhawk yet (apart from Paris Is Burning) Gasvegas! Yaaay Geraldine!
no i am not kidding, Kings of Leon sound exactly like every other stupid post punk revival band (the killers, franz ferdinand, fallout boy).. at least MGMT have their own distinct sound and they arent part of some stupid genre like post-punk revival
original sound? have you heard any goddamn eighties music? are you a child or do you have the memory of a gnat? there is nothing original about mgmt whatsoever. actually, there's nothing original about kings of leon either. fuck, you people suck.
You my friend, are a fucking idiot. Kings of Leon are a unique band doing something amazing, and are actually genuine artists. Although not going to lie MGMT are great too, but I definitely think KOL's cd should have come first.
not going to argue all I'm going to say is, to me, Kings of Leon sound like the death of music, MGMT sound like the rebirth of music. You sure showed your composure by throwing "fucking idiot" out there. If your vision is too blurred by emotion to have an argument over music, that you have to throw crude curse words at me, maybe you just don't have a very good argument against me? tell me how Kings of Leon speaks to you. if you can. if you like wolfmother go back to 1989. its 2009, wake up.
Alright, I admit I was rude calling you a "fucking idiot", I give you that. But do not get me wrong I love MGMT, and I do agree they are doing something unique. In saying this, the same could totally be said about Vampire weekend, who are at four? Anyway, having listened to both MGMT and KIngs of Leon's albums, all I feel is is that Kings Of Leon's album is stronger, and a departure from their other works. And btw, I hate Wolfmother now, I made my account like two or more years ago.
the fact that you say "you hate wolfmother now" shows you to be nothing more than a sheep, which is probably why you like Kings of Leon.. because they are comfortable. you like the familiar dress, the way they sing about girlfriends and breakups, good old fashioned rock n roll, right? let's hope it never changes.
All I will say is that, I have liked Kings Of Leon for about two years, maybe not since when Youth and Young Manhood came out, but thats beside the point. I'm done with the arguing. Both bands are amazing, all I was saying was that I believe KOL's cd was a better effort, but it seems we have very different opinions. Good day.
WHOOHOO song about a flacid dick, sounds great!!! really want to hear a song about having a limp dick!! good thing someone made a song about that! great topic!
I don't have anything against them specifically. I just think that if we're going to raise people onto a pedestal and give the all these awards, they should be the best of the best. They should be as good as the Beatles. And if they can't stack up, they shouldn't be getting so much attention because they don't deserve it, when there are other more talented bands out there.
her voice drives me insane.

No Bon Iver??? Noooooo... that album is pure gold! An instant classic.
BigKnobInYourFace 1 year ago
@BigKnobInYourFace Kings of Leon, MGMT, Fleet Foxes, AND Bon Iver were all instant classics. 2008 was a great year for music IMO...
drewbocop 1 year ago
@drewbocop I definitely agree

Kings of leon, what a weak choice. Their poorest album, from frankly a pretty poor band in the grand scheme of things
megangill223x 1 year ago
As good as the Fleet Foxes album was, For Emma Forever Ago should be #1 of 2008. I'd list it as one of the top 3 albums of the decade (00-09)

Kings of Leon are way better than MGMT... Love both, but let's face it...

i disagree. MGMT are far more original, Kings of Leon are just a mediocre pop rock band

True. But critics have ranked that album in top 10s of 2007. It's considered 2007.
