  • Excellent stuff!

  • Global warming is being caused by a slow increase in activity on the sun, the same warming can be seen on other planets as well... now tell me, how does the pollution from your car go about melting the ice on mars?

Get this through your thick skulls, global warming is a hoax intended to suck money out of you for "carbon taxes" and other methods.

Besides a little warming isn't a bad thing considering we're overdue for another global ice-age.

  • wheres my horse dammit!! i miss cleaning up all the piss and crap every day! i miss the smell of decaying fecal matter!! and the flies!! i miss freddie the fly and all his siblings!! and i miss the good 'ol days when most people never traveled more then 20 miles from their birth place! i miss the days of no fresh veg, fruit, and meat!! i miss toiling in the hot sun, sweat on my brow, and dying of old age at 35 body beaten to a pulp! lets go back to the good 'ol days! YEAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

  • I love cars! and aeroplanes and ships!

  • Oh yeah, let's pick on Ford, TOTALLY not saying anything, right?

Why don't they choose the Prius? I mean, the batteries are sent halfway across the world, and all of that nickel and iron and stuff can't come from Japan.

  • yeay sweden XD!!! FTW!

  • uh, and all those elements, iron, water and everything else comes from supernovas and it came here through comets and asteroids. I'm wondering how large footprint that made.

  • you are the only one i agree with .. and seeing that time continues infinitly the inevidability (spellcheck) of the extinction of the human race, our planet, our sun ect. will erase that tiny little "footprint"

and all those element that we know and contain here on earth will be scattered and recollected somewhere else in this unverse .. hopefully to a region where life exists with the intelegence to make more american cars!!!!!!! .. just kidding bout that last part but reli think about it ..

  • your american car society is a total dead end.

  • correction: society is a total dead end

  • machine kill man

  • that is the truth! as i write the world gets more polluted and the dangerous gas is not gona get stopped cus of filters in the engines, its still there because of teh big numbers of cars we use!

  • I thought all the parts came from one place. Isn't FORD an acronym for Found On Russian Dump?

  • Holy crap, americans are big polluters!!!Maybe they should stop wasting money on war and maybe their goverment should start caring for their people enviroment & problems!!

  • Who cares lets put a v8 in every single one. We'll run out of oil sooner or later anyway :)

No one is gonna try hard to develop alternative fuels when so much money is made from oil etc..

  • Not just the US...Mexico, Canada, Europe, Russia, China, Japan...we're all in it.

  • Cooolllll

  • u.s is destroying the earth everyday yet he still trying to wage more unjust war and kill million for his profit

  • So basically US has the largest Car Carbon footprint in the world, it uses up resources from all developing nations, oil from nearly every source, promotes excessive consumerism by needless advertising and yet pontificates the smaller lesser developed nations on ecological issues & responsibility. That is some double standard.

  • The first 3 minutes are wasted. The materials used to make that car could easily be found in one country/land mass. The reason they come from different parts of the world is because of resource abundance and trade/price.

The footprint of modern vehicles is somewhat less in terms of fuel consumption than most older cars. The real issue lies with cars without catalytic converters, and large vehicles such as SUV's.

  • Ford must've paid "a little" for this environmentally "responsible" clip. After all we get introduced to 3 new models for no reason. Thumbs down Nat Geo

  • If Obama wins he will fix everything, hope he doesn't bring the soldiers back.

  • Only 3 Oil tankers???

It wasn't that bad as what I thought..

does the NationalGeographic Channel know how much resources the military spend every year...

  • that's a bunch of info stuffed into a small video

  • wala gid halin sa philippines bah!haha

  • interesting

...and the car came from human. :)

  • Incredible video. It shows just how proficent with our manufacturing processes are in putting together all these manufactured parts to produce one of the greatest inventions of modern time.

  • "Freedom... means a real impact on the environment over your... lifetime."

    hear that PATRIOTS?

  • having raped and pillaged this planet for over a hundred years now, our greed and ignorance is finally starting to catch up with us--global warming, deforestation, urban/suburban sprawl, dwindling resources. perhaps it's time that we, as a species, take a collective time-out and re-think our approach to life--before it's too late.

  • You know, it wouldn't had been a problem for us if public transport wasn't so incompetent. It took me two hours to travel 30 kilometres just because the bus and train take their own sweet time. Useless buggers.

  • Yeah for Wisconsin!!

The UK have no use in making cars then!! LOL

    Seriously though...scary!!

    =)

  • who cares? were all gunna be extinct sooner or later why not sooner? lets just have our fun on earth lets drive all our fancy cars all we want. then we will be extinct and time for a new race to dominate the earth 5million years later

  • i guess it wouldn't be that big a deal if we were the only living creatures on earth, but that is only true in your sadly mistaken mind.

  • what about after the dynosuars? there was barly anything alive on earth for like 5million years then we came along

  • the world will go banana soon because of pollution ^^

  • whoa american have 12 cars in their entire lifetime!??!?!?! no wonder

  • I from S.F. Everything I need is within a couple blocks or a bus ride. The reason cars are even in S.F in because of the people that drive in from the suburbs

  • No one in my fmaily has owned more than 1 car in their entire lifetime. I guess we are helping the situation unlike others.

  • People really should ride bikes more, especially for sort trips where cars aren't necessary.

  • what ppl can do?cant change the reality that we dependent on fuel n gas in the modern civilization.

  • And the penguin blood, vital to automanufacturing, comes from Antarctica.

  • Yes, cars are made from parts collected from all across the world. So is everything else. It's called an economy. Pay attention people the government is soon going start saying people must buy locally at whatever the cost and do without things we cannot produce. We will be forced back into agrarian lifestyles.

  • lol theres a truck driving backward in the beginning

  • Look closer at 00:15. It's being towed.

  • all yeah

  • i'm sorry but you are a fucking douche if you drive a hybrid.

  • its not cool to be environmental. sad :(

not for us...for our children, even more sad because we actually know the damage we are doing :(:(:(

  • you're the douche, what a more environmentally friendly car isn't man enough for you-get out of that box you're thinking in, maybe you'll actually think something worth saying

  • How they gonna put up all together?

    you wouldn't do this for

    your cars, would you?

  • Electric cars are bad for the environment.

  • How about a national or world "No Car Driving day" (except for emergencies) for an hour or a day on a Saturday.

We had Earth Hour earlier this month and Google participated during that hour. Large corporations as well as households participated by turning their lights off for an hour.

  • too much

  • noooo!!! that might be the day when the "terrosists" might strike the U.S when she is off guard.

  • well i would have never imagine that

  • ehhh, hybrid today. electric tomorrow. a no-brainer. what are we waiting for already????

  • ya i think thats right i live in spain and i hadly need to drive.what do think that we should do i think we should stopp using cars and use somthing that doseent do all those thing. i like your videos a lot.

  • WOW look at all those parts Ford uses to make a car. Boy that sure is a lot jobs she is pointing out there. By the way my son is a petrolum engineer, he tells me there is enough oil in Alaska to last 300 years, its just getting it out of the ground that's tough (the oil is frozen). World wide there is so much oil man just has not found a way to get to it yet. The Russians have struck oil below the crust of where dinosaurs live. Scientist are now taking another look at oil.

  • We shouldn't rely on oil, thats part of the problem... we need to find cleaner more effecient means of energy, NOT more ways to find and use oil.

  • Find a cheaper more relialble fuel I'm all for it. Don't get me wrong we MUST find a better means to power our transportation. Keep in mind autos are not the only thing that keeps the wheels of freedom moving that need oil.

  • The Prius makes a bigger carbon footprint than a Ford Expedition. Not only on parts being delivered but the batteries contain acid. A little known fact is that China will burn enough coal by the year 2020 that would equal 3 billion Ford Expeditions, the biggest SUV Ford makes. I'll do the math for you it would take Ford 15,000 years to make that many. So don't preach to Ford preach to CHINA!

  • China produces 18.4% of the worlds carbon footprint, an allot of the energy used is to make consumer products for North Americans. In contrast the USA produces 20% of the worlds carbon emissions. Also the Prius uses NiMH batteries, not Lead-Acid batteries, which can be found in the ford expedition.

  • so does that mean that we should sit around and do nothing? ok hybrids are not perfect yet, but they are certainly a move in the right direction...

  • Have you been reading that Glen Beck book 'An Inconvenient Book'?

  • Glen thinks books with facts are very inconvenient, so inconvenient that he wouldn't even read them if he was literate.

  • Why yes I have!! That and my son being in the field he's in keeps me aware.

  • Give society a choice They tell us the problem but they don't give us a solution I think it's BS, make an electric car affordable I'll buy it Invent a car that runs on water, it has already been done once, we can do it again I do think that we contribute to global warming however companies and our governments havent given us any other option than to buy cars and put gas or deisel in them Everyone is impressed that my 4 cyl gets 40MPG but thats nothing in the scheme of things We need Change!

  • Don't remark society as some foreign group. You are part of the human population. You are part of society.

  • I said they don't give US a solution, I am just as responcible as everyone else. I just feel like as a society we aren't given the choices needed to save OUR planet.

  • oh crap...

  • Wow, we're screwed. Global warming 1, humankind 0.

  • more like global warning=won

    humans=are screwed

  • that giant map was kick ass!

  • I do not agree with your vidio.did you know that people make a liveing off of that money?

  • who cares those people are gonna end the world hunterkirk!

  • So the world would be saved by ensureing poverty... Funny you saying that as your sitting infront of a computer and most likely living in a comfortable home and driving a car.

  • Poverty...? you lost me. But if you want to change the subject, take a look at where the use of fossil fuels is taking us; poverty is just around the corner, corn crops being turned into ethanol for SUVs.. but people will always be starving somewhere regardless. We need a better solution, that much is obvious.

  • Look at those areas with out cars, one common factor with then IS POVERTY. As yourself how limited would your job options be if you could only work in place with in walking distance.

YES Poverty is what would result of no cars.

  • ...poverty is what would result on no cars? If we had no cars public transportation, by necessity, would be severely expanded and improved. The only real difference between a car and public transportation is that one is more flexible and expensive, and the other is more economical, but frustrating to use.

Its pointless to go into the environmental issue. I'll only say that cars such as the Mercedes and SUVs are for the most part excess and luxury. Thats all.

  • dude ur so stupid

  • Wow... That was a great comment.

  • we need an alternative fo sho and they really need to make electric cars cheaper too

  • thats really sad how cars have effected the earth like this... imagine living without one? people have come to depend on vehicles so much... we should all carpool, save gas and electricity, recycle, and do whatever you can do help the environment. its about time climate change was taken seriously... its not something we can put on the back burner anymore... this has become a very serious problem... we need to do everything we can before its to late

  • What in THE FUCK was up with Australia?! lmfao

  • lol what was with australia on that map!?

  • we screw up everything...

  • never did like them fords

  • Absolutely fantastic! Great job!!!

  • Hm. Better start drilling for more oil and making more refineries, we have statistics to keep up.

  • same thing goes for airplanes, though hey are less compared to all the cars

  • this is cool...never thought of it like that before

  • fascinating

  • If more people were to become vegetarian it would be like taking all the cars off the road.

  • how

  • I a proud of this global economy... just imagine the poor that can now feed their families thanks to this global exchange.

The Car has save countless lives and saved more poor then any evironmentalist ever did. God bless the cars and those who make it.

  • Facts: Cars kill over 40,000, Critically injure 3,000,000 Annually in America alone.

Without cars the world population would be much lower, the environment would be much healthier and safer. From a holistic (global) perspective, the automobile is one of the worse inventions of all time.

p.s. people could feed themselves just fine thousands of years before cars were even invented.

  • Car drive people to hospitals saveing millions of lives. Police cars are use to capture criminals saving millions. In the USA ALONE... it is FANTASTIC!

Without cars you would be dead or sick starving to death in some poluted hell hole... but the wolves will be happy to eat you.

  • We'll your true about that, but cars also polute the air killing people. =)

  • So does breathing as I understand it.. so should we stop breathing as well. As I understand it Cattle "polute" by breathing and farting should we kill off all the cows?

You want to see polution? Study the health of the middle ages that such people dream of with there open sewers and life spans of the 40's.

  • Without cars we would live in an entirely different society. i.e. Small rural villages wherein the problems you list are marginalized to the point of insignificance.

As for your second line of rhetoric, all very unlikely. As previously stated, humans were doing just fine thousands of years before the advent of the automobile.

  • Really have you ever lived in such a society? If you study the middle ages you will learn that with out the car transportation was difficult and thusly food storages were common. Many starved and most died before they reached 40 years of age. Yes people survived it, but people have survived death camps and plegues... hardly a reason to have one.

  • That had nothing to do with transportation. Also you are talking mainly about European civilization, which was backwards and quite barbaric in many ways. Asia is a much better example of how rural communities thrived before personalize transport. There are infinite possibilities, the automobile is just one, and undeniably one of the worse ever conceived.

  • It didn't? Do you have any idea on the effects of transportation? It brings both food and water, it allows people to travel to schools and become doctors and scholars, it takes the trash away, it when sick it takes you to places of healing.

I would safely guess you never lived in one of those Asian rural communities with out transportation. Your dream of a time and a thing that has never existed, thusly you could never go back to it.

  • Like I said, just one of an infinite number of possibilities for transportation. Ask yourself: is this really how I want to live, is this really good enough? We could do a lot better, and other cultures have, in the past even, done better. So really, what argument do you have? You must really like inferior technology.

  • I am happy as a lark with my life today and would not want my transportation limited by when and where government controled transportation would take me and or how far I could walk.

I like knowing if I want to go somewhere I can do so when I please and go where I please. It is know as freedom... embrace it.

My daughter just told me she is glad to know so many have jobs thanks to cars and she does not agree with your video.

  • We'll some people are lazy and don't wanna walk =/

  • Hey you can walk California to New York... WOW your amazing!

  • Freedom is great, but when it puts other people and the environment in danger it is no longer just freedom, it is a warped version of human ingenuity that makes the world a worse place to live for everyone. Embrace the concept that we are not limited by just one bad idea, and that it is never too late to find a better solution.

  • The problem is it isnt putting people and the environment in danger. Thats a simple put a lie. I have seen no evidance to indicate that it is true and the science behind the theory is deeply flawed and has been twisted by environmentalist that love trees more then man.

  • you don't sound smart, not at all.

  • WOW... You cut me to the quick...

  • haha...i don't remember typing that...sorry man

  • Americans dont care about anybody except themselves. that is why they r morons

  • Stupid and being selfish have no relativity here.

You're the one looking 'dumb' here.

  • exactly

  • its the europeans that make many of our cars so stfu

  • and who buys and use them 24/7

  • and who buys and use them 24/7

  • How ironic that the ad to the right of the video is a Toyota Corolla ad.

  • How ironic that the ad to the right of the video is a Toyota Corolla ad.

  • you're right, we should probably all just walk from now on [/sarcasm]

  • Kudos to Nat Geo for consistently reporting important information. Become a member if you're not already; subscription costs get you a cool mag and you become involved in the solution!

  • that's why we drive hybrids :)

  • do the math, USA is the leader for global warming issues, SAD

  • do your homework kid.Mexico surpasses us almost twice in global warming.

  • well between USA and MEXICO the world is fucked up, whats the difference anyways from 1st to 2nd place?

    same shit , kid

  • so US is 2nd that does not mean US is doing a good job dumb ass cunt

  • im not saying the us is a fucking superhero when it come to global warming what i am saying is its the first so before you waste your time and mine just stfu and research

  • hey dude my bad i did not try to diss US i dont know what i was thinkin.

  • 12 cars in our lifetime? That sounds like a bit much.

  • not realy, I'm 27 and I am already on my 3rd car.

  • depressing.

  • I'll never see a vehicle of any kind the same way again. So much for "buy american" eh?

  • my family has never owened a car and neither have I.

I think that many years will pass before I can affort one.

  • Mag-NAY-sium.

    Not mag-neh-suh-muh.

  • al-u-min-e-um

    NOT

    -al-oom-in-uum

  • i have a 2009 mustang

  • Wait...12 cars in our lifetimes? That's a car every 5 years...I'd be pissed if I bought a car and only used it for that long.

  • the only part that acutally made me think "wow" was when they had that huge-ass map with all the parts from around the world on it =(

  • i have a 2007 mustang

  • Global warming ended in 1998 after the SUN was done its 11 year warm period... its a natural cycle people. The earth and the human species isn't going anywhere.

  • Then why have temperatures kept rising?

  • is smoking pot good or bad for the environment?, it creates smoke, but on the other hand, it creates a lot of oxygen from growing it.

  • Hrm, interesting question.

  • yes, carbon is bad. TAX TAX TAX QUICKLY! Tax one of the building blocks of our biosphere, while 12 tonnes of plastic swirl in the ocean, never getting noticed.

fuck al gore, fuck the IPCC.

  • so basically so say fuck planet earth...cheez you are a genious man maybe you can live on the moon

  • fuck al gore = fuck planet earth?

  • So maybe we should all drive bicycles and live in tents. As soon as that would happen somebody would make a video showing where the parts of a bicycle came from. I wonder how many vehicles Nat Geo owns?

  • lol. Riding a bike isnt that hard, you know. It's a sad day when people choose to drive a car to pick up some milk rather than bike or walk. From my experience, Americans do that ALOT.

Wanna get out of Iraq? Stop forcing the government to supply so much oil!

  • I have no problems with bikes, I actually ride a lot. I just think they're impractical and won't replace cars and trucks.

  • Besides, you guys have just as many cars as we do. Why do Canadians not consider themselves Americans anyways?

  • Easier said than done. Where I used to live it was a 30 minute drive to the nearest convenience store. Normaly we planned it out enough that we didnt run out of milk until grocery day, but still riding a bike to get anything is impractical for those living in remote areas.

  • I understand that, but I'm not talking about the rural population, I'm talking the urban population that lives within 2 blocks from their favorite shopping centers. Roughly half of Americans live in urban areas, why can't they takes buses or walk or bike?

  • yeah, riding a bike is a great idea when you live half an hour outside of town. And just think of the storage capabilities. Tons of room for groceries, your kids, shopping.

Riding a bike may not be that hard, but it's impractical.

  • For buying a full week of groceries, yes. For visiting others, or going across the city...why not? Or take a bus?

  • How about because not everyone lives on a bus route or within bicking distance of anyone.

  • HAHA, you choose where you live, you choose where you work, smart girl..... pft, waahh, i don't live on a bus line cause i chose not to. dumb azz.
