@OhSoInsane yeah you're absolutely right, but i was watching myth-busters at the same time. i wasnt laying down tracks or anything so noise was not a big deal.
@BlueShirt7 I have never tried the traditional one. I can only guess that it would tend to have less bass and faster attack because of its smaller size.
@geetargeek79 From your video and others, the herbert sounds tight... do you think this amp could cover 80s thrash tones? ie: anthrax, megadeth, exdodus
Yeah, I'm still impressed also, 2 years after I first commented this video. Especially with the articulation, the ease you give to it, impressive and nice to hear this :) Cheers
@durarail buy a Dr Z Air Brake - it is an attenuator that works at any impedence. I use one with my Diezel Herbert and I can crank the hell out of it while playing at bedroom level.
Dude your playing is sick. Simply put. You should get some gig footage I'd like to see you in action with your band or jamming. You alone is good enough tho! keep it up. Im inspired. I've been into the Diezel Herbert because it has been the main touring amplifier for Muse, one of my favorite bands. Cool to see it in action with just a guitar and a great musician.
Actually my dream amp set up :O the best tone I'v ever heard from an amp. Played one on friday so i can say that for anyone who may disbelieve, they sound so much better in reality. But they are so expensive :(
Dude sounds awesome! Did you get rid of a Mesa Rectifier for this? or ever had one? Thinking of putting some EL34's in my Dual Rectifier 3 channel to see what it sounds like. But let me know if you like this better than the Dual Rect. Keep rockin!
I actually like both and can live with either one. They really don't sound similar so it's hard to choose. The Diezel is closer to a Marshall and the Mesa is, well, a Mesa. Both kick ass... i still have both.
Hehe, aren't these amps monstrous? I have one with JJ EL34s and SED Winged C EL34s. Sounds great. In the beginning sounds like you had a hell of a lot of Midcut dialed in. :O
Wow dude that fan is soo cool...you're playing that diezel herbert and its just sitting there and rotating like nothing is going on :D its soo chill ;)
Pare gawin nyo ng kanta yan ng CRK ! ! ! ! Tapos pa RAFFLE mo yang Diezel mo ! ! ! ... hehehehe ... astig tunog mo pare ... patulong naman sa POd XT Live ko ... Dennis GinBlinD
haha. salamat. ano problema sa pod xt mo? common problem, kapag gamit mo regular guitar amp, turn off mo cab sim, tapos eq mo ulit... gamit mo lang cab sim kapag direct sa mixer, recorder, o head phones... maninibago tenga mo sa umpisa pero mas maayos ang tunog after a while...
Question. I know the herbert has enough gain, and tightness, but is the tone more like a high presence trebley sear? or like a fat cigar tone? (if you understand, answer, if not, don't.
the highs is very hi-fi with pronounced presence around 3-4khz. unlike the dual rectifier, it's presence is set much higher. having both, i like either one.
nice kirk hammett solo there at the beginning. so many people critize him for that kind of stuff (wah and pentatonics) but im like dude stfu. anyways, nice tone. could use an EQ pedal to fine tune it a bit though
finally, somebody recognizes the influence! =) i do use eq somtimes in the loop to cut a bit around 3-4khz. it makes the amp sound more raw instead of hi-fi.
Nice sounding rig, good playing. You feel like the big Boogie cab is a good match for the Herbert? I ask because I have the same cab which I currently use with a 5150 II. But I will soon be buying a Herbert head. I'm just wondering if I will want to get a new cab.
that's a good question. i actually bought the front loaded diezel cab along with the herbert. but after trying it side by side with the boogie, i prefer the boogie much better than the diezel.
is there a nice smooth rhythm sound on this guitar? i like the distorted sounds, but im not loving the twang in the clean. its just my liking, but, this guitar seems great. nice playing too.
Hey, I noticed you have had this amp for a long time. Nice tone by the way. I have a question...or two. When you plug straight into the amp without any effects at all and crank it to band levels do you get a lot of screech and feedback? In other words, does this amp need a noise gate? Also, what effects do you run with this? Thanks, Mike.
I would say that yes you would need a noise gate if you don't turn your volume down when not playing. It's not much of a screech, just a regular musical feedback to my ears. the effects is a yamaha dg stomp. please check the description for more info.
Maybe I have some microphonic tubes or something. It seems when I push this amp to get a good quality metal rhythm on channel 3 I can't play without getting a bunch of screeching and feedback between chord progressions. It did have a ROUGH trip through transit(OOPS). To be honest with you although the Herbie sounds great straight in, my 73 superlead with my digitech 2101 blows it away. I'll have to get it looked at. I don't believe it is running on full potential.
IMO get the VHT theyre my favorite amps for sure. The onboard graphic eq opens up a lot of tonal options. And I've always thought Diezel were a little overpriced for what you get.
Very nice, love the amp and great playing what effects are you using at 1:30 and 2:45? Also what scales are you using throughout the video? I love your playing style.
Thank you. I was just using mostly pentatonics (minor) or some minor modes that I can't really remember. I usually noodle without thinking about it. I just fire right off the bat. The effects used all throughout is a Yamaha DG stomp patched in the series effects loop.
I'm guessing you switched positions on the pentatonic a lot then? So you've never practiced those licks before? I only know a couple of positions on the pentatonic scale and I can't play it that fast when I improvise it :( How long you been playing? And any tips for getting this good at just improvising shredding on this scale?
I've been playing for quite a while now. But chances are, if I'm asked to play the same licks I played here all over again I won't be able to. They may sound similar but not exactly the same.
i love how new amps have 50+ knobs and a ridiculous amount of front end gain. I still love the classics like '68 marshall plexi but i'd rather sleep with a porn star than the girl next door.
thanks. the trem is a little too stiff compared to some of my guitars with original floyds. i'm also not a big fan of non-threaded tremolo arms... but it still feels great to play.
I ENVY YOU seriously nice gear and how much was that mesa cab?? 2 grand and i bet that dizel was like 6 grand or something wow your a lucky bum also you play really really well good to know at least the gear is being put to good use
geetargeek79 - Your articulation is great! Very bright sound of the clean channel, and clear hi-gain sound. But you have a lot in your hands, you play very confident. Great job man!! I'm impressed and my mouth gets a hilarious smile while hearing it ;p Nice stuff anyway. Cheers!!
geetargeek Your articulation is great. Man i'm impressed how clean and confident your playing is. The more impressive it is when it comes to the fact that this is a tube amp. Great job and your hi-gain sound is very clear. My mouth gets hilarious smile while hearing it ;p Also great gear BTW :) Cheers!
The Herbert has arrived and I just can't get enough off it! I like the tone you got going on in Channel 3. What position are your pots in for this EQ?
Congratulations dude you really got their somethin else!! I just tried a Diezel herbert in a music exposition, and damn i never heard such thing... The channel 3 blown me away, so much gain!! My Mesa/Boogie solo50 Single Rectifier is a big pile of shit compared to that piece of art! Diezel Amps conquered my heart!! The priece explains the unquestionable quality!!
dude congratulations you are very lucky!! I just tried a diezel herbert on a instrument exposition, and i never heard nothing like that, my mesaboogie rectifier sounds like a big pile of shit compared to that piece of art!! My god Diezel Amps conquered my heart!! they fuckin kick ass
hehe. I don't really know. I was just noodling around. But I listen to it now, it sounds like an In Flames riff played clean. My first thought about that riff when I heard it was it sounded like a 'surf' riff.
you shuold turn the TV off and watch the noise go down in the amp

geetargeek79 - Your articulation is great! Very bright sound of the clean channel, and clear hi-gain sound. But you have a lot in your hands, you play very confident. Great job man!! I'm impressed and my mouth gets a hilarious smile while hearing it ;p Nice stuff anyway. Cheers!!

Thanks. Nice to know that the playing is also appreciated and not just the gear...

geetargeek Your articulation is great. Man i'm impressed how clean and confident your playing is. The more impressive it is when it comes to the fact that this is a tube amp. Great job and your hi-gain sound is very clear. My mouth gets hilarious smile while hearing it ;p Also great gear BTW :) Cheers!

If you're talking about the chuggin riff in the end, it's an original. the solos and everything else are just noodled.

"death to the neighbors" lol! My neighbors have been pretty cool. they don't really mind me playing out loud, so as long it's at a reasonable time.

Hey man, great vid, nice tone.
Have you changed the pups on your RGT42? I have the same guitar and was wondering what to change to.

thanks. everything you see in the vid is stock.

I went for the Front Loaded Diezel 4x12. It was more the sound I was looking for.
Your EQ settings are very similar to what I had dialled in origionally lol, but i've just pumped more gain in ;).
I'm setting up a little recording studio in my bedroom so i'll make some recordings and post them up on YouTube.

Hello again!
The Herbert has arrived and I just can't get enough off it! I like the tone you got going on in Channel 3. What position are your pots in for this EQ?
Stuupot 4 years ago
Awesome! So what cab did you end up with? I forgot my setting on this vid. But try this for now. It's my current setting:
Gain = 10:30
Volume = 12:00
treble = 3:00
mid = 9:00
bass = 3:00
mid cut = 10:00
mid cut level = 12:00
presence and deep = 2:00
They're a bit extreme but they work for me right now.

The priece explains the unquestionable quality!!

what's that thing you play at 3:22? :P
666grevil 4 years ago
hehe. I don't really know. I was just noodling around. But I listen to it now, it sounds like an In Flames riff played clean. My first thought about that riff when I heard it was it sounded like a 'surf' riff.

You have a 150W RMS head for your bedroom?
*overkill*
Anyway, sounds as nice as it should for a $4000+ amp.
