I think that Susan has a better voice, more pure than modonnas...but i think that the phrasing from madonna is more beatifull. But both are great singers! No doubt about that!

Any singer will tell you that this is not really great singing. If she was 20 or 30 years younger and didn't come out on stage looking like someone had randomly pulled her out of a homeless shelter and put her in slightly better clothing, no one would even be talking about her. She's just not that good. Even though Madonna is not a fantastic singer, she's better than Boyle.
I disagree - she's brilliant! She has soul! She sings from genuine suffering and she HAS truth on her side! Madonna is famous, a megastar - she is not humble. But God has the last laugh - this woman, so humble and ordinary is definitely superior in the singing of this song - there is no shallowness!! Shallow (an interesting word...) This version is pretty good... But Madonna's version hands down is her best vocals EVER. I mean it's one of the last we get to hear Madonna's real voice W/OUT electronic enhanced vocals and she had just come off her vocal coaching from the Evita Soundtrack. The emotions in Madonna's voice were raw and real at the time of the original recording. The Spanish element in Madonna's version encompasses Madonna her love affair w/ Latino culture and the the men as well. You can't compare the 2.
Susan Boyle is amazing! I adore her, but on the other hand MADONNA is a legend, she's made amazing songs and talented people such as Susan and Sherly Bassy are doing her songs after her! If you listen @ the very start of song b4 vocals, then.56 secs in, then , 2 mins:26 -35 secs., then the VERY END of song you can almost picture a Tiger quietly lurking , prowling intent on pouncing . Maonna been relying on great writers to collaberate with it and making it seem like shes the one behind it...shes been sucking the creativity out of people on the edge for years. Madonnas great-but with alot of help.

This is a far better version ! The ominous bass line meshes well perfectly with Susan Boyle's soprano. The guitar line emphasizes the desperation of the lyrics. She brings a new trembling intensity to it, perhaps because she understands rather more than Madonna about being sidelined and maligned.
Yes, Susan is good....but let's not just dismiss Madonna as just a performer....the truth is Madonna gives this song one thing Susan cannot....EMOTION! I heard all of the buzz, and I thought I was going to get blown away. When I finally heard her sing, I was left scratching my head. She can sing well but not exceptionally. The only reason she's a big deal is because of her looks. They don't match her voice.

This is a BEAUTIFUL rendition of an already beautiful rendition of this song. Susan is a lovely woman who has 'seasoned' her talent over the years in private only to come out of the gate a raging bull. Madonna is under-rated as a dramatic vocalist. She is uber-classy when she chooses to be and cannot be discredited for her performance in Evita or her many 'non-pop' videos that show her true range. Madonna has it in her to be so much more than a 'pop' star.
One more thing, this is a Madonna song, she wrote it with David Foster. David Foster himself said Madonna is vastly underrated as a vocalist( in his new book). Madonna did a live, in the studio version of this song called "Veras". It is on Youtube. Check it out. Anyway, it doesn't take away that Susan does an admirable rendition of this wonderful song.

Une belle revanche sur la vie que cette petite femme dont tout le charme est d etre ingrate et sublime et adorable. Et qui a véhiculé autour de la planète des éléments de tolérance très bienvenus. Maonna been relying on great writers to collaberate with it and making it seem like shes the one behind it...shes been sucking the creativity out of people on the edge for years. Madonnas great-but with alot of help.

I like the vibration of her voice, that makes her unique, but she's trying too hard to imitate Madonna's tone in this song, she should stick to the angelic tone she used in Wild Horses

This is a far better version ! The ominous bass line meshes well perfectly with Susan Boyle's soprano. The guitar line emphasizes the desperation of the lyrics. She brings a new trembling intensity to it, perhaps because she understands rather more than Madonna about being sidelined and maligned.

Yes, Susan is good....but let's not just dismiss Madonna as just a performer....the truth is Madonna gives this song one thing Susan cannot....EMOTION! Susan has a great voice, but she lacks the confidence to deliver a song with emotion and thats one thing a seasoned "performer" like madonna has plenty of. If you doubt me, watch Madonna's version! I just wish Madonna would have had this arrangement.

I agree..........and Madonna has much more life experiences to prove it..........Susan has a great voice, but lacks that earthly experience....I would like to see her break her shell and watch out.......with that voice. she will conquer the world..............

I disagree. This is a much stronger recording of the song. Clearer. Stronger voice. Better arrangement. If you listen and do not watch, I think you would vote for Susan.

I think this recording isn't a very good example of Susan's voice. She sounds a bit shakey in this.
As far as looks are concerned... Who really cares? But to be honest, Susan is not uglier than Madonna. She just wears less make-up and has had no reconstructive surgery...

I heard all of the buzz, and I thought I was going to get blown away. When I finally heard her sing, I was left scratching my head. She can sing well but not exceptionally. The only reason she's a big deal is because of her looks. They don't match her voice.

I love SB and I appreciate that he took a song from Madonna's repertoire which I consider one of the biggest singers and stars in the world.
SB makes a beautiful and different version as we know very well. May be having different voices They can share the stage and sing the song together.

@PRchica101 they are not all covers. Not sure what CD you are listening to but " Who I was born to be " is an original that was written for Susan. Michael Buble also has recorded this. Nothing wrong with good "Covers" of good songs. I do wish she had more original songs on it though. Also wish she had done a christmas CD

This is a BEAUTIFUL rendition of an already beautiful rendition of this song. Susan is a lovely woman who has 'seasoned' her talent over the years in private only to come out of the gate a raging bull. Madonna is under-rated as a dramatic vocalist. She is uber-classy when she chooses to be and cannot be discredited for her performance in Evita or her many 'non-pop' videos that show her true range. Madonna has it in her to be so much more than a 'pop' star.

One more thing, this is a Madonna song, she wrote it with David Foster. David Foster himself said Madonna is vastly underrated as a vocalist( in his new book). Madonna did a live, in the studio version of this song called "Veras". It is on Youtube. Check it out. Anyway, it doesn't take away that Susan does an admirable rendition of this wonderful song.

You Madonna Worshippers do realize that Madonna can't sing!? When she sings at award shows, all of the performers laugh at her. She never meants to be a singer, she was a dancer. Susan Boyle is a natural singer and she is NOT UGLY. I'd like to see some of your mugs on here. Then again maybe not, you'll break the camera.
