Thanx Nfiles, I was 14 in 1984, and the cold wave wasn't in my possibility of comprehension, so if i like well "Love will tear us apart" in 1980, and The Cure, when they play sometimes of the French Radio, i liked later at this time "Blue Monday" , the rythm (disco, thanx Peter "heavy Bass" Hook) and so much the ideas of dead people who maybe come back with their spirits on earth, and boats in ports, like the John Carpenter movies in that period. Viva the Dockers of all continents, and Britain
What a great track and great band! Joy Division and the evoloution to New Order after Curtis's death - no matter how you see it, one of the greatest music conglomerates in modern music history!
Hooky said in an interview that ian would have been into blue monday big time and if he had survived odds are the band would have gone the same way anyway.
Actually sad and yet positive. When Ian Curtis wouldn't have died, New Order would never have existed. For the New Order fans, that's positive. But not for Joy Division fans like me. Don't get me wrong. I think New Order is good, but I would rather have Ian Curtis still living and JD still alive.
lol the chic always looks bored out of her mind , like shes thinking "i should have been a concert pianist what the hell am i doing here!?" have some fun, woman!!
@mxrty78 - back then looking bored with it all was all the rage. I don't miss the faux 'TUDE about the 80's, when it was "cool to be rude". It wasn't cool and still isn't.
80's music gets a bad rap because of a lot of the crap that came out then like Huey Lewis and the News.....the stuff that was played on Top 40 radio.
But those of us who listened to the Alternative music know some of the best music came out then including this one which is probably my fave song from the 80's.
Best selling 12 inch single of all time and they lost money on it! the cover cost more than they sold the record for, so the more they sold the more they lost. All the money from Joy Division kept the Hacienda going which was losing thousands per week, Tony Wilson was a great bloke but a crap businessman, R.I.P Tony you will always be a legend
i wonder what they used to loop the intro? it sounds so flawless, so it's not like they are playing those synth parts live. and I don't see any apple laptops onstage like most newer bands. new order innovated electronic music. most newer bands like mgmt, la roux, passion pit owe so much to new order and madonna's early stuff
big load yur a moron their not bopring performers your just used to dumbass big time performers all about the gimmickks and props and shock new order dont need to do that showy flashy shit their music speaks for them
The sound of the bass at 0.47 sounds so powerful its like the ships horn blowing from some great ocean liner. I like how hook sounds and its pretty unique
I play bass myself and you hear of all these so-called legends that move up the fretboard at 500 miles per hour. All very good, but they don't have a sound like this lol. Totally unique is oor Hooky!! Well done m8

Not to be too technical but that's a six string bass he's playing.
WouterJ 2 years ago
Makes you wonder why he needed a six string bass? bassline so simple!
funguysmall 2 years ago
Because that particullar kind of six string bass basically is a guitar tuned an octave below normal which amkes it sound really twangy.
