I just did this fight and dungeon yesterday. And I just had to laugh while watching this video because you had the same weapons I did, same strategy, (except for the use of the lightning, fire, and cherry bombs on the mini Raos), and overall same way I play the game. You just spent the 100 Demon fangs earlier on the golden ink pot. I saved them and went for the Water tablet lol

Oh, and lastly. I love how every japanese mythology character/legend/hero/champion has always suffered the most dealing with a nine-tailed fox. Even a god had her share of hardships facing this wench!
About Ninetails being a "he" or a "she": as a god, they are supposed to be asexual (no defined sex). The fact that foxes or kyubis are usually represented or referred to as "she/her" is because foxes can be cunning and deceiving while they appear to be playful, careless and naive... as many women. When a fox is represented as a man, it just means pure, narrow-minded desire for something (power). That's why this enemy is the best ever. She "plays" like women, with the desires of power of men
I have the PS2 version and it was pretty simple with brush strokes. I just knew which symbols I needed to draw so I have no issues avoiding Ninetails's brush. Never thought to use that one brush stroke (I forget it's name) that slows things down for four seconds though.
The reason why i think he is the best antagonist of the game are pretty well pointed in CrazyKirlia 's comment, i mean, the guy appear out of a friggin contelation, something that only brings awesomnes and goodness to the game and it's story, and the fact that he has a brush, he decived a GODDESS, i mean what else can you ask from a boss, i mean, he's not a friggn Giant Hand but he IS a demon lord beacuse of something
. i've heard people complain about yami "just sitting there in The Ark of Yamato" but i say he didn't choose to stay there. he was trapped. ninetails, crimson helm, lechku & nechku, and blight all left The Ark via that cloudy evil spirit form, did they not? my theory with Yami is that due to him using an artificial mech, if he had escaped using that form he would've left the mech behind making him incredibly weak and vulnerable to attack. now is ninetails really the superior villain to yami now?
@DumDum5551 Yami's a bamf, and takes twice as long to defeat than Ninetails, assuming you know how to execute him in a quick manor, which you're not really able to do with yami.
@DumDum5551 It was "regaining its strength" as usual in any game where the greatest evil appears at the end, but while regaining it, Yami was spreading some of his "evilness" into the world. The black mists that fly north after defeating each boss were fragments of Yami that grew even stronger when they possesed the already evil hosts. What you fight inside the Ark are the mists taking the form of their former hosts... or Capcom just loves these "Megaman" challenges before the final battles.
@Dancergirl600 The game play is definitely worth the length of the game. It gives you an amazing background story and it's just all around awesome. I highly recommend you get it.

Most of all, she has a brush of her own! First time you see it, it's "OH HELL NO THIS IS SRS BSNS."
@CrazyKirlia Just a little something, but there is a traditional Oni demon statue depicting Ninetales in his castle, and it is male. I believe Ninetales is either meant to be of ambiguous gender, or predominantly male who changes genders since well, that's part of his 'deception'.
@Elementroar Kitsune traditionally possess women, anyway. They do this to sleep with men and father fox-children and likely also kill them.
Thing is, those are the bad kitsune. There are also good kitsune- the messenger of the rice and harvest god, Inari. Those are the ones who have their statues wearing the red bibs, which is what Fox McCloud was based off.
I really loved how they made us believe with all our souls that this was the final boss, usually when games have that twist they only make it once, DOUBLE TWIST AAAALL THE WAAAY (Orochi and NineTails)
You would have thought, also, that after being struck by lightning once she'd learn not to stick a metal sword up to a stormy sky in the presence of a goddess...
This is the most epic, well-designed boss I have ever seen in any video game ever. The amount of creativity that went into this game far surpasses that of anything Nintendo or other game companies could ever hope to come up with. They should all take a leaf out of Capcom's book.

The drawing wasn't hard with the ps2 analog stick, but first time I fought Ninetails, I was like, "Oh geeze, he can draw on my parchment?! WTFROFLBBQ." No, I didn't say that, but it was surprising at first.
If you look at ninetail's tails you can see a red tip and when he draws there is a red tip does that mean he draws with his tail and ammy draws with her tail?

I don't think a lot of you understand ninetails. Okami is based on Japanese folklore and beliefs and ninetails is part of Japanese folklore. It isnt ripping off naruto and another user even mentioned bleach. Bleach has nothing to do with ninetails anyway.

By this time a kyubi is often endowed with a shining golden aura, almost limitless knowledge, and in some cases (such as the famed Tomomo-No-Mae, who this character is loosely based on) capable of incredible destruction. This one though looks more like he was endowed with the power of a god by who else? Yami. :P

@meanleanchris96 yeah i know, kitsunes are foxes... with special powers and such... which is why I called them mythological. i had no idea ninetails was the original one though, well anyway, there are ancient japanese stories about them.
but they are mythological creatures, from japan. Kitsune means fox, but i guess in english we call them kitsunes implying the more 'magical' properties of them(and the fact that the idea originated in ancient japan).
I think Ninetails is the second hardest boss in the game. Hardest bosses are the Kusa 5 (or ten was it). Yami just took a long time, he wasn't very hard.
@SamuraiGenkai it's not actually that hard, the controls are good and the reliance on "brushwork" makes things even easier a lot of the times. This was a decently hard fight though.

I just bought the Okami Official Complete Works book yesterday, and it is AMAZING. I'd reccommend it if you can find it anywhere...

I really want to do this fight again. I played like such crap. It took me ages to figure out that the people were his nine souls and not just ordinary minions.

rofl even though my favourite bosses are lechku and nechku, ninetails was soo incredibly awesome, even though it totally gave away her hiding place with the constellation XD, she was an enjoyable boss

ninetails SUCKS at hiding
1: wen the stars make that shiny noise, nainetails hav a dull sound
2: the shape of the constellation is a 9 tailed fox
3: it has red tints on the shape
4: its the top of the effing tower ninetails is obviesly ther :)

when i read "Ruler of the Land of Darkness Yami",i was so excited,until i saw it was a mechanical ball with a fish inside,still,i finished the game 3 times,this is a master piece

I don't think a lot of you understand ninetails. Okami is based on Japanese folklore and beliefs and ninetails is part of Japanese folklore. It isnt ripping off naruto and another user even mentioned bleach. Bleach has nothing to do with ninetails anyway.

@mrtheman58 A Nine tailed fox, or known as a kyubi kitsune, is traditionally known in Japanese culturre as a mischievous fox spirit who has reached the mythical age of a millenium long. By this time a kyubi is often endowed with a shining golden aura, almost limitless knowledge, and in some cases (such as the famed Tomomo-No-Mae, who this character is loosely based on) capable of incredible destruction. This one though looks more like he was endowed with the power of a god by who else? Yami. :P

Im walking along with ammy minding my own bussiness when she sees this constelation and im like. Don't even try stupid fox. and then Nine tales just yells with all her stupid might '' Crap!'' and we just leave with no notice. And she just stays hiding there for the next 2900 centuries.

@meanleanchris96 yeah i know, kitsunes are foxes... with special powers and such... which is why I called them mythological. i had no idea ninetails was the original one though, well anyway, there are ancient japanese stories about them.
but they are mythological creatures, from japan. Kitsune means fox, but i guess in english we call them kitsunes implying the more 'magical' properties of them(and the fact that the idea originated in ancient japan).

I think Ninetails is the second hardest boss in the game. Hardest bosses are the Kusa 5 (or ten was it). Yami just took a long time, he wasn't very hard.

@SamuraiGenkai it's not actually that hard, the controls are good and the reliance on "brushwork" makes things even easier a lot of the times. This was a decently hard fight though.
