Dull cover. I love the original recording by NIN and I admit Johnny Cash did an outstanding cover. But this one is as dull as a song like Hurt can be.
The point of this song is to not be a vocally perfect rendition, music is not just about that. The Johnny Cash cover for example, which is infinitely better then this, is full of pathos. It is about a man nearing the end of his life looking back on his life experiences and remembering all the pain and suffering he went through to get to were he was. This coming from someone of the age of Leona Lewis is patronising. This song is about pain, not a glorious crescendo that results in extra sales.
She has amazing talent and performed the song amazingly. Yes, this song may be truer to Johnny Cash emotionally, and yes, this song may have been Nine Inch Nails originally. As a Rock fan myself, I think this is easily as powerful as the other versions and is equally as haunting if not more.
Leona is the only artist that could cover songs and have them sell like crazy because of the way she transforms them and also because the truth is she can out sing any of the original song's singers or anyone else that had covered the songs before her. Emotions or whatnot(which she clearly shows if you're not too blinded from being so biased) she is on another level vocally.

I'm sorry to all the NIN fans, but they could never hope to match Leona's vocal ability. They whisper all the way through their version, so it can hardly be called a song. Although the lyrics are moving, Hurt was not a song till Johnny Cash sung it because he actually put some vocals to it. Leona's belted notes provide far more sustinence to the song and make the song far more convincing than some pathetic whimpering by a failed artist. I know which version I'll be listening to.

Its a simple matter of taste. Leona Lewis is not an artist but a performer. The product of a glorified karaoke competition. Personally I seek original, artistic material that plumbs the depths of human experience. The technical ability to sing in key with note for note perfection means nothing to me. I would take poor vocals delivered with conviction over polished x-factor performances any day.
I don't have a problem with her covering this, actually I think it's quite nifty. The problem is the screaming bimbos in the audience, while we can't see their faces--well I hate to say 'teenage girls' because I AM one, but I think you know what I'm talking about.

Whatever you think of this version, her vocal mastery is undeniable. The last chorus is truly amazing, vocal perfection - for me, the best bit of any of the versions of this song. Cash's version was crying out for something additional in this vein, and I think Leona has provided an excellent interpretation of it :-)

Sure, her version is amazing, objectively I'd easily give it a 8/10. But I don't think anyone can sing it with as much emotion and feeling as Trent can. I've seen it done live, I was there in Melbourne at Metro when Trent got heckled whilst performing it. Let me tell you, I've never seen someone convey their emotion like he did on that night.

It must have had some effect for you to say it is a great performance. you can see the emotion in her face and hear it in her vocals. Some people simply don't like covers and don't like it when their favourite band or singer gets covered, especially when the cover is better than the original, which is definitely the case with Run. Gary Lightbody can't sing.

I love Leona, she's a really talented singer and normally I love her covers but this one fails hard for me. She has amazing talent and performed the song amazingly. Yes, this song may be truer to Johnny Cash emotionally, and yes, this song may have been Nine Inch Nails originally. As a Rock fan myself, I think this is easily as powerful as the other versions and is equally as haunting if not more.

Leona is the only artist that could cover songs and have them sell like crazy because of the way she transforms them and also because the truth is she can out sing any of the original song's singers or anyone else that had covered the songs before her. Emotions or whatnot(which she clearly shows if you're not too blinded from being so biased) she is on another level vocally.

Having no taste in music will lean towards pop because it is "simple and catchy". McDonalds is also very popular, doesn't mean it's the best food out there, obviously. People are lazy, people want food made for them, music delivered to them. Music is for the hearts, not the charts.

I'm sorry to all the NIN fans, but they could never hope to match Leona's vocal ability. They whisper all the way through their version, so it can hardly be called a song. Although the lyrics are moving, Hurt was not a song till Johnny Cash sung it because he actually put some vocals to it. Leona's belted notes provide far more sustinence to the song and make the song far more convincing than some pathetic whimpering by a failed artist. I know which version I'll be listening to.

Its a simple matter of taste. Leona Lewis is not an artist but a performer. The product of a glorified karaoke competition. Personally I seek original, artistic material that plumbs the depths of human experience. The technical ability to sing in key with note for note perfection means nothing to me. I would take poor vocals delivered with conviction over polished x-factor performances any day.

I don't have a problem with her covering this, actually I think it's quite nifty. The problem is the screaming bimbos in the audience, while we can't see their faces--well I hate to say 'teenage girls' because I AM one, but I think you know what I'm talking about.
It's safe to say they didn't recognize the song and were looking around baffledly for a hook or chorus they could cheer to.

Whatever you think of this version, her vocal mastery is undeniable. The last chorus is truly amazing, vocal perfection - for me, the best bit of any of the versions of this song. Cash's version was crying out for something additional in this vein, and I think Leona has provided an excellent interpretation of it :-)

Sure, her version is amazing, objectively I'd easily give it a 8/10. But I don't think anyone can sing it with as much emotion and feeling as Trent can. I've seen it done live, I was there in Melbourne at Metro when Trent got heckled whilst performing it. Let me tell you, I've never seen someone convey their emotion like he did on that night.

An amazing vocal performance is not the only thing necessary to touch people. This is beautiful and hollow. As one other poster (TheRefleks1978) said "I felt nothing while listening to her cover". Great performance but it didn't touch me in any way at all.

It must have had some effect for you to say it is a great performance. you can see the emotion in her face and hear it in her vocals. Some people simply don't like covers and don't like it when their favourite band or singer gets covered, especially when the cover is better than the original, which is definitely the case with Run. Gary Lightbody can't sing.

It seems that Leona's album has been delayed, maybe because of the way collide was received.This ep was for her loyal fans as a bridge while we wait for her album, there was no real advertisement or promotion, i dont think it was meant to compete in the charts. I love to hear from Leona, to me she always performs at the highest standard and reminds people the level you have to reach. I hate how she does covers. Bleeding Love was written by Snow Patrol, Run was written and performed by Snow Patrol and Hurt was sung originally by Nine Inch Nails and then Johnny Cash. The one that really annoys me is Run because all my friends think it's her song. The reason she did a cover of Hurt was probably because no one had heard of it before. Write your own songs.
