Here is a PRIME example of why sonys suck! He has the camera RIGHT next to the sub and the treble is still overpowering the bass. Im not even going to touch that he is running a 600 watt amp, ok maybe I'll touch it a bit.... Its probably a 600W Xplod amp, which runs RMS of 150W at best. Also if you tried running a true 1300 watts to this it would melt the cheap PLASTIC SVC. The construction of these subs are very subpar. Just a couple reasons why Sony Xplods suck!

No if your running a true 600w amp to the sub with a 600wRMS amp then you are running it at 600w to the sub which is its rms rating and the subs PEAK power is 1300w so if you got a 1300w amp and hooked it up to the sub then you would be able to not only run it to its potential but run it with its RMS rating.

Alot of people dont realize what power really is. Amplifiers and subwoofers, wattage on them are just numbers and they hardly ever reach those numbers. If you hooked up an amplifier that gave that subwoofer TRUE 250watts i bet it would blow. 1300 watts is alot of power and because of the market people dont realize that.

Clipping a signal is more likely to burn up the amp, but still can do damage to the voice coils like you said. I did car audio for a bit and people kept coming in cuz they spent little money on an amp and either the amp went bad or the voice coils burned thermally. They didn't want to spend more money on an amp so they maxed out the gain and bass boost. We didn't honor the in store warranty cuz we noted it as customer abuse. Manufacturers wouldn't honor it either.
