Safety tip: Do NOT believe hands free safety claims please only pull over and then talk, text etc. hands free can still be distracting and even deadly.
Using your phone while driving is irresponsible childlike behaviour. That is the reason why the message has to be send like you are talking to a child. Do you get it???
go ahead take the pledge, but that's of course not what this is about. this is about passing laws that prohibit people like me who won't sign any such pledge from using my phone.
i signed the plege also my husband did also. we don't care for people text while they are driving. It;s get s me made when we see it every day. people are careless..
Another publicity stunt, she wants everybody else to stop doing it, while she is being driven in a limo by her chauffer. Filthy rich billionaire, why doesnt she give up all these millions and ride a bus. What she needs all these money for.
so stupid...oprah is just doing this to get attention and make some money off of it...i support texting and talking on a cellphone while driving...i think i'll create a movement...haha
i strongly believe in what oprah is doing..BUT..even if you do take the pledge that does not mean its going to stop you from using your cellphone while driving...I do believe that there is a reason why people SHOULD use a cell phone while driving..and the only exception is in case of an emergency! If you need to talk or text pull over! At least you would be doing it safely!

..it should be simple...risk peoples lives while driving then the punishment will be harsh...when you decide to ENDANGER your fellow citizens in a CAR or Truck etc...you are then saying hey I am above the law...and I can do anything I want...That is and always has been insane...and it needs to be mad clear...when your car becomes a WEAPON and not Transportation... that choice is INSANE...:) Freedom is not the right to do the above...it is INSANE...
If people will listen to Oprah, and not txt or talk while Driving it'll all be worth it. B/c no txt or call is worth dying for being mamed for or paralyzed for. Save a life TAKE THE PLEDGE..
its against the law in australia to drive while on the phone, you could lose your license for a minimum of 3 months and get a fine, texting included. get with the program USA!! also illegal to not wear a seatbelt... and more restrictions on new drivers, tougher penalties and laws.
Oh come on Oprah. There are bigger problems in the world. I mean I know you've covered most of those issues but you need better show topics, woman. 25,000 people die each day from starvation. Why don't we do something about that? Just sayin'...
Come on dude or dudette, you know darn well Oprah IS doing something about starving people, too and she HAS said something about that as well in other venue's. This just happens to be her statement at the moment. Chill and take the pledge and you and others will stay alive. Just sayin'
I signed the pledge & the day after had my grand-daughter in the car. A car pulled out in front of us! 1st words out of her mouth were, "Look Grandma he was talking on his cell phone!" There he was yakking away on his cell totally oblivious to our distress. Thank you for making this a public issue. I work in Substance Abuse Prevention & was shocked to hear it was equal to a .08 BAC!
I live in British Columbia, Canada, and just recently they actually made it ILLEGAL to talk and/or text on your cell phone while driving, I believe the fines are like $500 and up or something like that, we're still aloud to have the bluetooth headset thing but yeah, it's illegal now, which is good, because I think it was last year a guy was killed because he was texting on his phone and he crashed and died.. , NO PHONE ZONE! :) yay!
@MarikasRoom I know it is such a good thing, people don't realize HOW much of a risk it is, you might as well just be reading a newspaper or something if your going to talk on your phone or text, GO BC AND SASK AND WHATEVER OTHER PROVINCE/STATE THAT MAKES TALKING/TEXTING WHILE DRIVING ILLEGAL! :)
I totally agree with the pledge. I took it myself. But, just so we can all be on the same page with "your" pledge. Can you pledge not to use your phone while in your limo? Even though you are not actually driving. So we all will be making this sacrifice. Even though I am adhearing to the pledge...some things are easier said than done.
@easternstar12 your pledge doesnt make any sense for her to do. its no talking on the phone while DRIVING not RIDING. she said that she wouldnt call anyone that she knew was driving.
oh yea seen a few people run lights and swerve over to my lane while talking and or texting dial 911 and tell the cops they are drunk and give them the licence number done it a few times sometimes i cant get close enoght to tell if they are drunk or stoned
In Belgium it's forbidden by law.

I think this is elitist.
Safe driving, yes of course.
Being out of contact and unavailable while on the road, I can't afford it. I can't waste time waiting.
Don't distract the driver is still the best wisdom. (Everything else verges on Draconian mandate).

This is law in Ontario (Canada) too. You get ticketed if you are talking/texting while driving.

This is law in the UK. Amazed the US hasn't done the same yet. So many needless RTA's because people aren't paying attention.
