This is a great resource and practice video. Thank you for putting it together. I've shared it with my students and they couldn't be happier to have it!
are you using the heavy zills or the smaller type. it sounds like the heavier but I am having trouble they fill like cement. wonderful videos Thank you so much for posting them!
@321flare hi, thanks for writing. In the instructional segment I'm using smaller cymbals, often called "student size". I like using that size for the classroom. Start with the small one (about 2 & 1/4") to learn with, after you're comfortable playing you can get larger ones (like 2 & 1/2" etc.).
3" cymbals are hard to play well unless you have large hands like a man.
Thank you, these videos are exactly what I have been looking for. You are an excellent teacher. Now all I have to do is Practice Practice Practice, but you have given me something to practice with that I actually understand :-)
hi I have tried to play many times, I even had privaye lessons, it didn't work for me. Somehow you got thru to me and I now understand what is happening. thanx so much, you are a lifesaver, because I have always wanted to play finger cymbals, but if you don't understand what you are supposed to do, it becomes daunting. Once again I appreciate your learning method, it worked for me.
Thank you sooooooooooo much for posting this. I really struggle with zills and tend to skip even trying most of the time. I am really working now because I so want to be able to play. One question? Are your fingers supposed to turn purple and go numb? It is very uncomfortable!
so helpful thanks

Yes my fingertips turn blue - they're tight so they don't fall off! Take them off after 15 minutes max!

This is great practice because you begin slowly and build up while on your feet.
Thanks
